So we all have movies we enjoy, and some are either indie films almost no one has heard about, bad movies that were ignored by everyone, small releases that only fans of other movies know about, or just our own guilty pleasures. So in an effort to educate, and be educated, I want to know, what's your favorite, and most obscure movie? Why do you like it? Any fun facts you know about? What's it about, even why does it exist? This isn't just a 'favorite' list, it's a chance to share movies that you just love to death so much you want to share it with everyone, and get the word out on it. And if you can't decide, do multiple!

For me, there's 2. The first is a 1981 film called Shock Treatment, the 'unofficial sequel' to Rocky Horror. It makes one slight reference to the events of the first film, has a new Brad and Janet (actor wise), written by O'Brien himself, starring multiple actors from the original (with only one actor returning and playing the same role), and even has a cameo from Rocky Horror Fan Club President Sal Piro. The plot is absolutely bonkers, but it's got a lot of fun songs, and is actually rarely done outside of Rocky conventions because it's so obscure, it rarely gets anyone except hardcore Rocky fans excited to see it.

The other is a fairly recent film, called FDR: American Badass. Barry Bostwick plays FDR, who gets polio from a Nazi polio infected werewolf and becomes president to stop the world from being taken over by werewolf powers Italy, Germany and Japan. It's a comedy, and just so over the top retarded it's hysterical.

I rather enjoyed the 2001 film Jump Tomorrow. A Nigerian man goes on a road trip with a suicidal Frenchman across New York to his arranged wedding in Niagara Falls, while chasing after a Spanish girl that is dating an English wanker.

NIAGARA FALLS! Slowly I turn, and step by step, inch by inch...

OT: Two entries, plus the proviso that ANYTHING FROM MST3K DOESN'T COUNT.

Moontrap - So, funny story. There was a science fiction film starring Walter Koenig and Bruce Campbell as a pair of astronauts who discover an ANCIENT spacecraft which came from the moon about ohhh...ten thousand years ago. The moon is currently inhabited by lunatic robots who can build deadly attack bodies out of their surroundings...including human parts. Walter as an astronaut and not a cosmonaut seems forced with his accent in mind, but that's a minor issue. Very obscure, but pretty good.

Outpost - Okay, so... Back in World War II, you may recall that the Germans had a section dedicated towards finding new weapons of any sort, no matter how far-fetched it seemed. In that spirit, this movie revolves around some men - closer to present day - finding an outpost which was experimenting with a machine built to somehow harness energies based upon Einstein's incomplete unifying theory of the universe. They wanted to create soldiers who are empowered by an energy that keeps them from dying. And it worked...kind of.

I'm guessing the kind of folks who come on here probably know about this movie already, but it's still somewhat unknown amongst the masses and doesn't get anywhere near the love it deserves.

Equilibrium

Awesome, awesome sci-fi movie set in a not-too-distant future dystopia. Mankind is living in the aftermath of a third world war which we barely survived. In a bid to prevent a fourth world war and our certain extinction, the bigwigs outlaw human emotion and mass-produce a suppressant which is taken by the populace at regular intervals.

The whole scheme is enforced by the Grammaton Clerics, a special police force tasked with finding and destroying emotionally provocative materials and individuals who refuse to conform.

You probably already know where this is headed - rogue Cleric joins the resistance etc. and everybody has tea and cakes. The end.

But seriously, if you haven't already seen it, do it now. One of my favourite movies and massively underrated IMO.

Kill List is a great film that I don't think many people know about. It's a British movie about two hitmen who take a job to kill a group of people, but then things start to go a bit weird. It's really interesting, because they show you that something's off from very early on, but you really don't know where the movie is going with it. It's kind of difficult to describe without spoiling it, and it's the kind of film that you should see without knowing anything about it. All I can say is that it's really good, and if you like thrillers at all you should give it a shot.

Another one I saw recently is Sound of Noise. It's a Swedish music film about "a tone-deaf cop who works to track down a group of guerilla percussionists whose anarchic public performances are terrorizing the city". It has a bunch of really cool musical scenes. Here's one as a sample:
It's a lot of fun, and it does have more to it besides the music.

I don't know if it's a favorite of mine, but I like "Shaolin Soccer" a bunch.

It's plot is super generic (Underdog gang fight's it's way to the top and defeats the cheating enemy team at the end), but it's football scenes are just amazingly fun to watch.

Yeah, it probably is quite well known around here. See, it was quite trumpeted when it came out but it received rather tepid reviews. I personally loved it (whether for the stylised violence or the dystopian undertones which were more thought provoking than it first let on).

OT: Copenhagen - based on the stage play and the first time I saw Daniel Craig on film... and who did he play? Werner Heisenberg!! Sure, the physics was dumbed down, but not excessively so, thankfully. Great film (though better play, even if the film made a fair fist at leaving it very open as to what the nature of the setting was for most of it).

Not that it's exactly "unknown" but Black Sheep is an amazing film that more people need to see.

Pontypool is about a group of people in a radio station during a zombie apocalypse. It was recommended in a "name your favorite movies" thread, so I immediately bought it and it was AMAZING. Admittedly, I think the first half was significantly better than the second because you don't really know what's going on and all you know is what people are calling in and describing and you have to imagine everything for yourself and it's just so darn creepy. Second half is also good, but you can't really beat the first half.

And then there's One-Eyed Monster, a movie about Ron Jeremy's penis detaching itself and killing people on the set of a porno in the woods. That's pretty much everything you need to know.

Four Lions, I watched it after seeing Bob's review. If you want to know what goes on in the mind of a terrorist, watch that movie. It is way too close to the truth and is actually scary because of it. Watch it someone who knows Urdu or Hindi to understand it better, some of the subtitles are wrong and ruin the jokes.

I am not sure it is unknown or not but my favorite movie is The Message(1977) by Mustapha Akkad.
If you want to know about Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) or about Islam, watch this movie.

Shaolin soccer, equilibrium, 4 lions. i like this list

I would add 'the mist'. or is that also well known.

There's also that film where Jim Carey is trying to kill kids. That was pretty fun too

Pan's Labyrinth is well known but also pretty random

Heed this man for he speaks the truth!

I also enjoyed Black Death, it featured Sean Bean as medieval knight (again) and was pretty good.

In Bruges, a film I was exposed to on this very forum. Not exactly unknown, but something unique enough that I think more people should see.

Dollman. Moviebob mentioned it once, and I try to mention it everytime an obscure movie list comes up.

Tim Thomerson plays Brick Bardo, a tough talking cop on the edge who doesn't play by the rules (and wears his sunglasses at night, no less), armed with a brand of ray-gun that loads clips (Yes, clips), has enough power to blast through three fat women and a criminal (I'm not making this up), that can blow flesh off muscle and bone (Yes, that happens too) and who happens to look like a blonde Bryan Cranston.
He goes bounty hunting for a mobster, but in trying to find this criminal, he winds up on Earth, where due to G-forces or something shrinks him down from about 5'10" to about a foot tall.
Once on Earth, he is confronted by a street gang with its leader being a constantly screaming Jackie Earle Haley (Pre-Watchmen/ Little Children).
Find this movie. It's less than 80 minutes long. If you don't like it, You've wasted no time given the one or two scenes in the movie that make it totally worth it.

Also, Hausu. A Japanese flick that is completely batshit. Watch this too.

Agreed!
Then again anything by Stephen Chow is enough to make me happy!
