Mass Effect
It was basically every SciFi book/movie/game that came before it rolled up into one unique package.
(yeah I know that is a paradox but it works)

Chrono Trigger has a pretty cool story. The idea of basically traveling through time to alter (or fix) the course of history and learn about the future and how to stop it. All these little detached parts connecting to one greater story, I dunno it just did something for me.

Bioshock, easily. Or Mass Effect, or Metroid Prime (no real "story," but the single player was AMAZING!), or Halo *gets ready for the flame*, or how could I forget Tales of Symphonia (best JRPG ever.)

For me, it's KOTOR by far.

I just loved every bit of the story, and the gameplay was superb as well.

Wow that was a fun game, it's been a while since I've played it. As in years.

I want to say Max Payne, but I think it's Max's storytelling that makes it great.. So I think I'll go with Zelda: OoT.

And a hell yes to that. Chrono Cross was pretty good too.

God of War if only for the fact that I love Greek mythology and yes I know it doesn't follow it exactly because he couldn't actually kill a god and Pandora's box has nothing in it that could give Kratos that power but... meh

Also Final Fantasy X was awesome

I feel like I should also say Half-Life 2 but I made the mistake of playing that before the first Half-life so I wasn't totally sure what was going on or why I should care about these people or if Alyx was my girlfriend but I figured it out even if the ending made no sense

Braid. Well,duh.

I won't provide any examples,since,as Johnatan Blow says,"you can never un-read it."

By far the best game story would have to be of metal gear solid 4. Some will say that they couldn't follow the story (yahtzee for one) but having not played a single other metal gear solid game, i followed it almost perfectly. Even if you couldn't follow it you had to realize it was an amazing story.

Planescape: Torment by far. The story is not only about the search for The Nameless One's history or why he is what he is, but also a philosophical quest for both the protagonist and the player himself, revolving around the question "What can change the nature of a man?"

I'm going to say Warcraft pretty much since you can make up your own plot- I mean, you COULD do the "real" story, gather some mates and do some group therapy violence, or piddle about doing not much at all.
