Space Marines for sheer awesome/books where they are more than killing machine number 1 (i like the universe and enjoy watching the board game but i can't afford/paint for shit, and can't be fucked with the rules)

Imperial guard, just for trying to kill everything and being the semi-crappest.

Singular chapters i'd go with ultramarines for dedication, imperial guard tanith, read the books if you have time/want something good to read.

Edit: they should also put something random in, like if you finish the campaign completely you can redo the game as pokemon or something, could be good.

Imperial Guard because they get a ridiculous number of awesome tanks (Baneblade, anybody?) and the feeling of hefting 80 dice in the shooting phase is beaten only by the knowledge that I have every OTHER unit left to do their shooting still to go.

That said with each turn you do rather feel the loss of dice most keenly.

IG. So lovable and so very varied.
Whenever i think of impereal guards i can't help but think of a poster i saw somewhere "He can't kill all of us right?". Their hero units remind me of Rambo.

In DoW 2?

Well, i cant see my favorite bug-lizards fitting with the character driven story or gameplay... but im not complaining. What kind of story can what is basically a single character have? If they break canon and give them individual thought... oh i will be pissed so much i will hurt people.
Well, story wise it won't matter, as only the Space Marines have a campaign story anyway, so the 'nids can just be their usual selves (Standard Apocalyptic Threat Mk. 2). Gameplay wise in multiplayer, it sounds like you only have direct control over Synapse creatures, and you use those to set general behaviour rules for the lesser swarm creatures around them, so as a race they should feel "in character".

Anyway, my favourite (mostly taken from Epic 40K) is the Imperial Guard. Why yes, I would like a company of ten Leman Russ tanks. No, no other army can line up that much firepower. And that's without the Artilliery Company behind the hill. Mmmmm. 18BP barrage, half an army dead and the rest covered in blast markers.

Still really need to learn how to work them in Dawn of War though, can win maps in campaign, but need to get that 3:1 kill ratio, and you do feel the weakness of the individual guardsman hard before you get rolling.

The Space Mrines have to be my favorites (and my first), although Tau have to come a close second.

Favorite enemies have to be Tyraids (wave upon wave of men...I mean aliens,)or failing that the Orks (ASBOs in space!).

Orks have the best tech in the universe.

It works because they believe it should, mechanically it is impossible.

Thats right, their guns only work because they want it too, their vehicles go faster if they paint them red and they solder on mechanical arms... which for some reason still move they way they want them too... despite often being simply nailed on...

Orks, we fink, derfore it iz.

I hate the orks. Not because they aren't good or anything, but they make me think that they are every idiot on the internet given a huge axe and some guns.

They even talk that way.

Also, Tau are my personal favorite. Such range, such fortification. The hammerhead tanks... Yeah.

It's quite obvious that the Imperial Guard are the greatest.

It's not because of their tanks, though they are the greatest tanks in the 40K universe (and any game based therein).

It's not because they have legions of soldiers, although they typically can horde-spam anyone into oblivion.

It's because everyone else is either a super-human, an alien with super-human powers, an alien with super-human tech, or is otherwise super-human in some super-human way. Guard, on the other hand, are flesh and blood Humans. It's like the whole Half-Life vs Halo thing. Half-Life is obviously FAR better, because Master Chief is some sort of genetically engineered smacktard who eats grenades and shits nitric acid, whilst Gordon Freeman is a nuclear physicist who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and accidentally saved the world. Sort of.

The whole "Super-human" angle has become so painfully cliché that it's not funny anymore. Nobody cares if you're super-human, but being just plain Human is worth taking note of.

WH40K is too old for IG to be innovatively pathetic. Space Marines were the original badboys.

Not that i dont think the IG are the most compelling race story wise (A opinion the horus heresy series is rapidly killing with a bolter) but saying they are like chief is an insult.

Chief is like them. (The 'shits nitric acid' bit was awesome)

Not that i don't like Halo, or Dislike Half-life for that matter, i Love Half-life as much as its fanatics and Halo as much is its crazed 12 year olds. I Have twice the fun and laugh at everybody.

But saying that a game made decades before is 'Painfully cliche' is like calling Jack Nicholson dressing up in facepaint, "Done to death nowadays because of the new batman movie".

Not that i don't like the Guard as people.... and snacks... Oh... so few armor saves, i just love to get my claws stuck into those battle lines!

I love the Tau because they're the only race who seems decent and humane; good is a relative view, but, for example, whenever the Tau invade a planet and wish to depopulate it, they restrict reproduction and do it over generations rather than slaughter the inhabitants in one big holocaust.

Besides, for every Tyranid, we have a plasma rifle. For every Ork, we have a Krootox. Tau soldiers die trying to get off a final round. I call that dedicated.

Furthermore, the Tau Shas'O is the most commando of the military leaders, being pimped out with all sorts of heavy weapons, jetpacks, and cloaking devices.
