FOR THE EMPEROR!!!!
Most signifcantly they die in droves with their boots on, cursing the enemies of man, if their unfortunate enough for their deaths not to be instant.
pretty much. there's no pension plan, so its not like they're missing anything.

I must confess, I have only played the DoW games, so understand that my experience is that alone. Also, I may not be 1337 for this conversation, my miniature gaming experience is sorely lacking. So my opinions are pieced together from some wikipedia articles and the video games. If I am incorrect in details, my apologies.

But I gotta side with the Tau. Utilitarianism is the best moral philosophy in the world, and the Tau try for it. Utilitarianism is the only philosophy I will go to the mat defending. That, in the Tau, I gotta respect. Every other faction I generally find humorous because they are so ridiculous, but the Tau are someone I can relate to. And their saints compared to everyone else...well, the Eldar seem Decent-If-Haughty to me, but the Tau are still the heroes to root for.

The Tau may be a tiny faction, but that just improves there appeal for me: There the scrappy underdogs! There victories are so much sweeter because they are at a disadvantage. Oh, and they improved in technology so rapidly, and took a bunch of other races under there wing, like the Vespids and the oh so awesome for a evolutionary science geek Kroot. I think there more analogous to humans in other Science Fiction then the human factions are.

Lastly, I am kinda prone in RTS to answering all threats with more ranged stuff, so the Tau are a sheer joy. And my favorite end game is huge amounts of power generators, and never ending drone assault, plus I love just watching the krootox and gnarloc takes obscene beatings and not dying. I think the sides are all balanced, so I gotta say I gravitate to there play style

Second may be Sisters of Battle, because I love there artillery, the sheer amount of fire burning everything in sight actually makes me giggle maniacally, and they have some of the funniest and coolest lines in the game ("Faster then Blasphemy", anything with the word, "Echlesiarchy", etc).

Imperial Guard. In the middle of heretics, daemons and aliens, simple humans are cool. And I love their nigh-infinite customisability. It's easier to combine IG with anything. Ever tried outfitting SM with Tau weapons? You can't! But IG CAN! HAHA!

....I think I might be a little Slaanesh deep inside of me, though.

Back when I painted and played, I fielded a Black Templar Space Marine army. Most of the races are fun to play or look at though. I always enjoyed my Dreadnoughts, even if they might as well have a giant "Shoot Me" sign on them.

Anyone here ever played as the Space Wolf 13th Company?
They had some pretty insane stuff. Like teleportation with their psykers and the Wulfen were pretty much the SM version of the Werewolves from Underworld. Problem was they had no armour so they were like normal marines in most battles, and best anti-'Nids force in urban warfare.

Ah, no, not really. The only legitimate threats to the universe are the Necrons, Tyranids, and the forces of Chaos, because their resources are virtually inexhaustible. The Tau, Eldar, Humans, and Orks are fucked in the big picture, but I'm not talking about that.
Actually, Orks are the most common species in the Wh40K galaxy, certainly more numerous than any measly chaos worshippers. Of course, they're not exactly organised, but if a really powerful warlord ever turns up, everyone else is stuffed. Sure, tyranids have their hives cruising around the galaxy, but pretty much everywhere else there are orks. Plus, they breed like crazy in war situations; even the tyranids need to eat a planet every now and then.

Ps. Space marines are my favourite, but only when deep striking (drop pods or otherwise).

Tau! I love the tech these guys have gotten in merely 2000 years. Yeah their empire aint that big n all. But they mannaged to defend themselves against the imperium of man.
Railguns anyone?
If by "managing to defend themselves" they bartered a truce when they realised just how big the Imperium is. The Tau are like an itch the Imperium can't quite reach; a tiny nuisance, but if the effort was ever made they could annhilate them using their vast fleets (compared to the Tau, anyway). Ocassionally the Tau steal a few worlds, and the Imperium does the equivalent of turning over and glaring at them, which makes them quit it. For a few years, at least...

I love Eldar, even tho its there fault for chaos and all that jazz coming out of the wrap.
Technically, only Slaanesh is their fault.
the whole mega warp-storm that started the age of Strife is their fault. The eye of terror is their fault. F***** eldars and their bloody arrogance.

I love the IG, especially the cadians, they're a balanced mix of low-tech and basic HtH abilities. (If you're a horde spammer and like bayonnets).

And they look cool too.

Flashlights and T-shirts FTW!!!

I gotta say that the Orks are not in any sort of trouble in the long run, at least if what ive read is right. You can't get rid of theme. They can pretty much build up from junk, and can pop up from nowhere long after taking them out. And I read somewhere that they grow from spores that can lay in the ground for centuries. Plus, they genetically remember how to make there technology, so 2 Orks on any backwater planet, and you have a Waaagh before too long. Taking them out appears to be akin to curing a common cold by stabbing each individual virus. Maybe they won't ever win, but there one race that you just can't eliminate.

Lots of action novels run into that problem, of having enough people die for it to be realistic, while still maintaining the protagonist's image as total unstoppable badasses. In the earlier Gaunt's Host's books you notice them by the handful, until the author realised that if was to make a prolonged aeries, he would have to lower the death rate.

No, two Orks is what's technically called a "fight". You need three for a Waaaaagh! And that's only when they've worked out who's da biggest.

*puts on geek hat*

Some aren't dead just in a forerunner bubble thing in space.

Its doesn't make since how Master Chief isn't the strongest yet he doesn't die after well anything(those books think MJOLNIR means paper mache).
