My favorite kinds of movies have always been zombie movies. I'm not sure why; they just have a certain undeniable charm to me. My top two favorite zombie movies have to be Zombi 2, and the original Day of the Dead.

Day of the Dead is different from the the other movies in the Night of the Living Dead series. It's much darker in tone for one thing. And as a running theme in Romero's work, most of the danger seems to come from the conflicts between characters rather than the zombies outside their safe haven. It also has, in my opinion, the best zombie feasting scenes in any movie. You have to wait the whole movie to see them, but when they show up...damn.

However, it can't hold a candle to Zombi 2. Zombi 2 was an unofficial sequel to Night of the Living Dead. It has a creepy atmosphere, tons of gore, great-looking zombies, and really creepy theme music. However, all of this is overshadowed by the fact that there is a scene in which a zombie fights a shark underwater. To semi-quote Yahtzee, I don't care who you are, the minute you come up against a zombie fighting a shark you're going to lose.

Post your favorite zombie movies and why you love them.

Oh, and by the way, I'm new. Hi.

Wasn't one of the Zombi movies the one with the Conquistador zombie? I like Shawn of the Dead, not my favorite but it's my favorite that I can think of right now.

Also, hiya. Welcome.

I agree. Shaun of the Dead is probably also one of my favorite movies in general. 28 Days Later was a nice change from the standard zombie fare, because of the way it was filmed. Also, it was the first time I'd ever seen running zombies. Regular zombies are creepy enough, but when they're chasing after you with the speed of an Olympic sprinter... brrrr...

A few of my favourites have already been said;
Shaun of the Dead was just pure brilliance. Seeing two guys beating zombies down with a cricket bat and a spade as opposed to gunning them down was really refreshing.
The original Dawn of the Dead was also great - how their heaven becomes their prison, just a great ironic twist.
The '28 Days' films showed a much scarier zombie in my opinion - they could run, and very fast. Also, it showed how normal people without guns (like in American films) would have to stop being bitten by an infected.

Also, hi there!

This.
Also, did anyone catch 'Dead Set', Charlie Brookers zombie show set around the big brother house? That was great.

I'm sorry to say but Shaun of the Dead is left far in the dust by 2007 film 'Zombies! Zombies! Zombies!', which was filmed on a fraction of the budget, has a much better understanding of the genre (all the better to mock it) and most importantly features a pimp named Johhny "Backhand" Vegas who is the single funniest character in any film ever. If in doubt, think of it this way: the tagline to the film is "ZOMBIES VERSUS STRIPPERS". 'Nuff said.

28 Days/Weeks Later. Shaun of the Dead, and though I'm going to open myself up to all kinds of criticism, Resident Evil 1 film. I really didn't care for the following two where Milla Jovanovanovavich got magic super powers, but I thought the first one was actually quite enjoyable and a good watch.

The Blind Dead quadrilogy, especially 1,2 and 4 are awsomely creepy. Blind zombies on zombie horses hunting by sound, a nice twist on the usual formula. Any of Lucio Fulci's zombie flicks are essential for fans of the genre, especially the gorehounds amongst you. Last but not least, Junk: Dead Evil Hunting is really good, its a zombie film that looks and feels like a Tarantino movie except Japanese and less pretentious. Highly recommended.

I had thought that "28 Days Later" wasn't technically a zombie movie; rather a survival horror

Big fan of "Re-animator" and "Dawn of the Dead (original and remake)". Also, can't go wrong with "Shaun of the Dead" for outright hilarity.

Zombies aren't always the reanimated dead, they can be alive as well; They just need to be mindless.

28 Days Later my all time fav (and I know it's technically not a zombie film in the traditional sense), also gotta love Night Of The Living Dead, Dawn Of The Dead, Braindead and Planet Terror.

It's gotta be the orginal Dawn of the Dead, the music, the locations and the crazy mexicans with tommy guns, Whats not to love.

Also House of the Dead and House of the Dead 2 by Uwe Bol, they're so f**king bad its insane, but they're so funny because of it (it's like cocaine, you know its bad, but its sooooo good)

Referring to the original post, character conflicts are not only in Romero films. They're what cause the downfall of the safe haven etc in almost every zombie film, or in other words, the greatest danger is usually other people. And if not that, it's alway's someone's fault.
That's why I like the Dawn of the Dead remake the most. There's friction between the survivors and the edgy security guy but it gets worked out.

Shit, Uwe Boll did them? I liked the first one, the second one was awful though (save for the "What the fuck was I thinkin'?" line).
