Microsoft Paint. I used to draw spaceships in it and than draw their battles making the sound effects myself.

Also Commander Keen, Mortal Kombat 2/3, Crash Bandicoot, C&C Red Alert...

Cosmos Cosmic Adventures, Duke Nukem 2D and that bio hazard or w/e it was called game on DOS
Bio Menace, is the name you're looking for.

Good to see a fellow DOS gamer.

My favourite childhood games were basically the catalogues of Apogee, Epic Megagames and ID Software.

God, you lot are making me feel old. When I was 11 I had a Commodore Amiga, so consequently my favourite games will mean nothing to a lot of people. Ah well. Anyone else remember these?

Secret of Monkey Island - The original one. I downloaded this for my iPad, and I just can't bring myself to play on the updated graphics. It seems... sacreligious somehow.

XCom: Enemy Unknown - Loved and hated this is equal measure. Loved because it was brilliant, hated because just as everything was going well, some little bastard of an alien would pop out of nowhere with a gun just as you ran out of action points.

Cannon Fodder - Jools! Jops! Stoo! And that incredible theme song.

Cadaver, Magic Pockets, Gods - And really, anything by the Bitmap Brothers pretty much rocked my world back in the day. Never managed to complete Gods though, it was just impossible. Close, but no banana.

Rainbow Islands - Ridiculous. Cutesy. Addictive.

Speedball 2 - More fun than should be legal with an Amiga. And who doesn't remember the cries of "Ice cream! Ice cream!".

Ultima V Warriors of Destiny - Loved loved loved. Massive, and probably would fit on a pocket calculator in this day and age.

Then when I was 17 or thereabouts, I picked up a PS1 with Final Fantasy VII and a SNES with Secret of Mana. These became my life for a good long time, and got me into more modern consoles. I still have my Amiga though, just can't bear to part with it.
