There is no denying the fact that music today is different to that of ten, twenty or even thirty years ago. But, no matter what, good music transcends any generational gap. And that is what this is about: those bands that may have been from before your 'time', but you still listen to and love nevertheless.

My band would have to be R.E.M, simply because their music is incredible. Well, maybe not, but it's still very good. Some people say that Pink Floyd is their 'go-to' music whenever they feel miserable, others some heavy metal, but I just listen to R.E.M. 'Man on the Moon' followed by 'The Great Beyond' defeats all!

Honourable mention goes to Modest Mouse, kinda. They were mainstream since four years ago, but 'Lonesome Crowded West' and 'This is a Long Drive for Someone With Nothing to Think About' are both only a few years after I was born.

Bob Dylan specifically the "protest song" to early electric eras

Best artist of all time in my opinion.

Best Band Led Zeppelin (house of the holy, whole lotta love, black dog, heart breaker, Kashmir the list goes on)

i agree with gilbert much, except instead of man on the moon and the great beyond i would have radio free europe and losing my religion. although r.e.m were still releasing great material after i was born, namely automatic for the people, so i cannot really choose them.

best band from before i was born, then, are either the beatles, the stones or television (marquee moon is just a masterpiece even if it's the oly thing they really ever did (if you haven't heard of it, i suggest you look it up, it's a masterpiece))

Almost every band I like. It would be harder to name bands I'm into that came out after I was born.

Black Sabbath rules all. Tony Iommi has more riffs in his little finger (yes, the one that got the end cut off) than most guitarists have in their entire bodies. Zep is pretty cool too.

Hendrix, Black Sabbath, Bob Marley, Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Saint Vitus, various old blues artists I like to listen to. Born '87, so some artists just barely escape this list.
