Caps in Fallout just have that Atompunk feel to 'em. Also, echoes from Echo Bazaar, if anyone still plays that game.

Considering that no currency has any inherent value, any currency could qualify.

If it has to actually be part of a work of fiction, I think I'll give the answer of Bits, from My Little Pony, if only for the confusion factor which will arise once the ponies get widespread computers.

Just to make things interesting: A colleague of mine on another message board actually calculated the exchange rate of dollars to bits. What he...

No...an Equestrian bit is NOT worth 12.5 cents. We are not equating a Bit to the "two bits" we used to call the quarter. Pay attention please.

What he came up with based on various exchanges within the show is that the Bit would be approximately worth around $4.75, or close to $5 per bit. So, if a "shave and a manecut" WAS two Bits, it would be about $9.50...which actually does work as I've seen haircuts close to that price at various Cost Cutters and other such places.

Either Republic Credits or Pokeyens. The first because they do fine, the seconds because you can buy a Magicarp for 500 of those. Or bet them all and buy a Polygon.

NCR dollars.
Brotherhood of Steel destroyed most of NCR's gold deposits and now it ain't worth shit, unlike the Legion's silver Denarius and gold Aurelius.
ECONOMY, BITCHES
I always thought that after their gold was destroyed, the NCR backed they money with water, like with caps.

Red Orbs from Devil May Cry. Who doesn't want to pay for things with the CRYSTALLISED BLOOD OF DEMONS?

Hmm, it was quite rad when I realized Capcom used Zenny for a lot of their games.
I personally know them from Monster Hunter (z) and Megaman Battle Network (Zenny).

Music notes, honeycombs and Pokébucks are great too.

Because they're just ridiculous, and can be substituted for any currency name.
Mmmm... simoleons...

I love 'em, too. They're fun and, in universe, buy you fun things.

Bullets in Metro. It just makes sense. After the end of the world, gold is just a mostly useless, pretty, very heavy metal. Bullets will always be useful.

So yeah, bullets are the best currency. What better way to pay for something than with the capacity to efficiently murder things?
Food? Clothes?
Yes, but you can get food and clothes for free if you have bullets.
But if you need to use them, you're effectively burning your currency.
Call it an investment. You can trade food and clothing for bullets of course and so long as you don't fire more shots than what a person has on them is worth, you make a profit.

Also, you don't need to fire a bullet to rob someone if you catch them unawares.

Whoa. I had no idea that was possible.

I like Zenny, too. They go back a long time... At least as far as the Capcom arcade games Black Tiger and Forgotten Worlds.

OMG.......... I just read every post on this thread, and you know what got skipped over?

Galleon or Gold-Galleon [1] is the most valued coin of the wizarding currency. One Galleon is equal to 17 Sickles or 493 Knuts. Galleons are made of gold.

I like it because I actually would do the math for it when reading the books, and got to where I could just figure it out almost as fast as the dollar cent thing.... Not being base 10 it was slightly harder. Why 493 and 17? never could figure that out.

Well, it's not official, mind you. Still, for my purposes with my fanfiction, it was good to know. (Current exchange rates in Arcadia: $1 = 1 Mushroom Kingdom Gold Coin = 2 Hylian Rupee = 100 Mobium = 100 Zenny)

*looks up at MorganL4's post* So 29 Knut per Sickle then. Wait...17 and 29? Hang on a moment... *goes off to check Illuminati references* Crap...it was 17 and 23, not 29. Nertz...I thought I had something here.

(In the game Deus Ex - Conspiracy, Tracer Tong made the following quote:

"...tracking down this Dowd connection. Illuminati fingerprints all over the sterics -- I'm talking about the molecule's shape: 17 segments, 23 coupling points... Only Illuminati technicians use sleeve bearings with 34-fold and 46-fold symmetry; multiples of 17 and 23. 1723. The birth of Adam Weishaupt. Not a coincidence.")

That's exactly what makes it so fascinating. Is it better to use those bullets to buy something or is it better to use those bullets to take something? It opens up a whole new concept where currency can be used in two ways. You hardly see someone mulling over whether to use their bottle-caps to buy a drink or to kill the barkeep with those caps and take one.
