I was thinking the other day that although religion is such an important thing in life and therefore games there doesn't seem to be that many actual gods, most things just come down to a vague 'maker'.
So what's your favourite god? an honourable mention goes out to Kratos (despite what he did to laser cat, Grrr) but I can't think of many fictional ones.
My example and all time favourite is Shrykull

Additional: yes, I agree that all deities are fictional but I meant in games n' stuff. Cthulu and the xenomorphs will do, so long as some crazy bastard might worship them.

The Forerunners.

Now, I'll sit here and wait patiently for people to say the gods of the mainstream religions. It'll happen, I promise.

Wow, that was quick!
Also, I should have thought of the Elder Scrolls, nice pick.

Wait, what? I'm confused, aren't all deities fictional?

OT: Yeah, Sheogorath rules. "Time for a celebration! Cheese for everyone!"

Also, honorable mention goes to Ammy (Okami, which other games do you actually get to play a god?), Dormin (SotC).

Xom from Dungeon Crawl. He was just totally random. All deities had an attack in which they'd zap everyone around you if you're in trouble, but Xom would sometimes zap you along with your enemies. I think I remember he'd say 'Whoops, sorry' afterwards but it's been a while since I've played.'

You can't say that the Escapist has no trolls, but it surely has the classiest trolls on the web.

from The Elder Scrolls.

They're just so badass. One is a bloody guardian of time and the other one a very evil trickster :p So yeah they take the prize "most awesome deities"
yeah Sheogorath is the most interesting character I've met in Oblivion by far. I liked the Shivering Isles storiyline better than the orignal storyline.

but to contribute to this thread, I'd say Brütal Legends Titans

Discounting the most obvious answers, I'd have to say...

Haruhi Suzumiya.

Yeah, so I like anime.

But from a game? Well, considering Forgotten Realms has several games made from it, I'll say Mystra, the goddess of Magic.

That's a toughy. I don't really pay attention to organised religion IRL, let along in videogames! I guess Sheogorath, because he's the only one I really know.

David Lister from Red Dwarf, known by the Cat race as their god, Cloister the Stupid.
I rest my case.

Eilistraee is my Goddess, I have yet to come across a deity who has moved me in the ways she has...

Any of the Lovecraftian elder things really... They all make me smile. >:D Um, maybe Sheogorath because he was so wonderfully amusing. Really most of 'em are pretty cool.

The God Emperor from 40k. His mere existence, as dead as he is, still allows the Imperium to function and he completely destroyed Horus' soul in one strike. That's pretty badass.
