"No, it is impossible, it is impossible to convey the life-sensation of any given epoch of one's existence--that which makes its truth, its meaning--its subtle and penetrating essence. It is impossible. We live, as we dream--alone." Marlow, Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad.

Love that line. It's the only thing I enjoyed about the book (partly because I had to read it for an English Course in University, alongside Wide Sagrasso Sea. Ugh.)

Hah, sorry. You said favorite quotes. I usually go with that or the definition of Indomitable.

Or maybe something about pie.

"There is something profoundly cynical my friends, in the notion of paradise after death. The lure is evasion. The promise is excusative. One need not accept responsibility for the world as it is, and by extension, one need do nothing about it. To strive for change, for true goodness in this mortal world, one must acknowledge and accept in ones own soul, that this mortal reality has purpose in itself, that its greatest value is not for us, but for our children and their children. To view life as but a quick passage along a foul, tortured path made foul and tortured by our own indifference, is to excuse all manner of misery and depravity and to exact cruel punishment upon the innocent lives to come. I defy this notion of paradise beyond the gates of bone. If the soul truely survives the passage then it behooves us, each of us my friends, to nuture a faith in similitude; what awaits us is a reflection of what we leave behind, and in the squandering of our mortal existence, we surrender the opportunity to learn the ways of goodness, the practise of sympathy, empathy, compassion and healing. All passed by on our headlong rush to arrive at a place of glory and beauty, a place we did not earn, and most certainly do not deserve."

Malazan book of the fallen series, not sure which book or which author, pretty sure it was one of Erikson. I'm telling any fellow escapists who are into fantasy books, if you havn't read this series your missing out BIG TIME lol the fact that I remembered it in its entirety is testomony to how fucking sweet this series is.

Pippin: I didn't think it would end this way.
Gandalf: End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path... One that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass... And then you see it.
Pippin: What? Gandalf?... See what?
Gandalf: White shores... and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise.
Pippin: [smiling] Well, that isn't so bad.
Gandalf: [softly] No... No it isn't.

Why that? I was watching that movie about three weeks after my Dad passed away suddenly, and this fucking scene almost destroyed me.

"Relationships don't work the way they do on television and in the movies. Will they? Won't they? And then they finally do, and they're happy forever. Gimme a break. Nine out of ten of them end because they weren't right for each other to begin with, and half of the ones who get married get divorced anyway, and I'm telling you right now, through all this stuff, I have not become a cynic, I haven't. Yes, I do happen to believe that love is mainly about pushing chocolate covered candies and, y'know, in some cultures, a chicken. You can call me a sucker, I don't care, because I do believe in it. Bottom line is: it's couples who are truly right for each other wade through the same crap as everybody else, but the big difference is they don't let it take them down. One of those two people will stand up and fight for that relationship every time. If it's right, and they're real lucky, one of them will say something."

Gotta love Dr Cox. He is the reason why I'm inclined to watch Scrubs if/when it's on.

"Einstein would be rolling in his grave, not only does God play dice, but the dice are loaded." - Provost Prokhor Zakharov, Sid Meier's Alpha Centaurai.

Truth be told I prefer:
"Now it's day and night the irons clang, and like poor galley slaves
We toil and toil, and when we die, must fill dishonored graves
But some dark night, when everything is silent in the town
I'll shoot those tyrants one and all, I'll gun the flogger down
I'll give the land a little shock, remember what I say,
And they'll yet regret they've sent Jim Jones in chains to Botany Bay." -"Jim Jones", Traditional

Which the game introduced to me but I wasn't sure if it counted.

"Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent." Salvor Hardin, from Asimov's Foundation.

Makes a whole lot of sense to me.

You should read it again if that's the only part you liked! It is full of great quotes.

"And this, too, has been one of the dark places of the earth."

"That weapon will replace your tongue. You will learn to speak through it, and your poetry will now be written with blood."
Dead Man by Jim Jarmusch... At least I think this is original to the film, a lot of the lines in it are actually from William Blake poems.

"Well, that's just like, your opinion... man."
The Big Lebowski

"Look at that - 'accident black spot'. They're not accidents. They're throwing themselves into the road to escape all this hideousness! Throw yourself into the road, DARLING!"
Withnail and I

"Some things are not known to those who eat with forks."
Rudyard Kipling, Kim.

"Money ain't got no owners, yo. Only spenders."
Omar from The Wire

All the Space Marine sayings from the loading screens of Dawn of War XD

"It has always been the prerogative of children and halfwits to point out that the emperor has no clothes. But the emperor remains and emperor. And the halfwit remains a halfwit."
Neil Gaiman, The Sandman

"A man who does not despise a bad government is a fool. And if there was such a thing on earth as a good government, to serve it would be a great joy."
Ursula LeGuin, The Left Hand of Darkness

And too much Shakespeare to list.

'We read to know we're not alone' C.S. Lewis. Sums up the reason why anyone would ever turn to a fictional world to escape their problems.

Literally anything by Oscar Wilde, the world's most notorious anti-quoter. My personal fav is 'I like persons better than principles, and I like persons with no principles better than anything else in the world.'

So, you are obviously the big dick. The men on the side of ya are your balls. Now there are two types of balls. There are big brave balls, and there are little mincey ****** balls.

Now, dicks have drive and clarity of vision, but they are not clever. They smell pussy and they want a piece of the action. And you thought you smelled some good old pussy, and have brought your two little mincey ****** balls along for a good old time. But you've got your parties muddled up. There's no pussy here, just a dose that'll make you wish you were born a woman. Like a prick, you are having second thoughts. You are shrinking, and your two little balls are shrinking with you. And the fact that you've got "Replica" written down the side of your guns,
and the fact that I've got "Desert Eagle point five O" written down the side of mine should precipitate your balls into shrinking, along with your presence.

Now... Fuck off!

Preaching to the choir. That quote is just a perfect representation of The Malazan Book of the Fallen.(Pretty insane you knew all that by heart. I need to learn it myself) Any who, I'll just bring you some other quotes I love from the same series.

?Tell me, Tool, what dominates your thoughts?'
The Imass shrugged before replying.
'I think of futility, Adjunct.'
'Do all Imass think about futility?'
'No. Few think at all.'
'Why is that?'
The Imass leaned his head to one side and regarded her.
'Because Adjunct, it is futile.?

Name none of the fallen, for they stood in our place, and stand there still in each moment of our lives. Let my death hold no glory, and let me die forgotten and unknown. Let it not be said that I was one among the dead to accuse the living.

Imagine a world without such souls.
Yes, it should have been harder to do.
