Probably Mass Effect.

That or Timesplitters: Future Perfect if just for the dialog. If you haven't played that game, go do it. I think it's one of the funniest games I've ever played. No one famous that I recognize doing the voice acting, but there are some great lines in there if you can find them (like the drunk guy in every level) and just listening to some of the guards talk before they know you are there.

I guess I'll be the first to say it... Half-Life 2
I still think I'd enjoy it more if Freeman had a voice. And it was Charlie Sheen.
I imagine that turning out something like this:

And it would be awesome :)

Team Fortress 2.

"Sandvich and me will kick your ass"

It's just the way the actor delivers it that makes it so funny for me.

Or maybe Penumbra/Amnesia. For an indie series, Penumbra's voice-acting ain't all that bad.

Portal 2 and Dragon Age: Origins are the only ones which stand out for me. Amnesia: Dark Descent wasn't bad.

In a lot of games I turn off the sound if I think I can get away with it.

Portal, Dungeon Keeper (all of the unique creature sounds will remain forever in my mind), all of the Bioware and Black Isle games, Metal Gear Solid games (mostly).

No mention of No More Heroes or Robin Atkin Downes yet? People.

I'd also go back to John Truitt's performance as Ghaleon in the Lunar series - sardonic, contemplative, brimming with resentment and anger or softly sad as needed - one of the first truly great videogame voiceover performances and still my favorite.

Also, Deadly Premonition's Jeff Kramer. It can't be easy to portray a character who's as off-kilter as Francis York Morgan - a crime-fiction straight-arrow who sees the world sideways - but he pulled it off swimmingly.

portal

is definitely interesting.

glados is voiced by a trained opera singer, who also voices the turrets and just about every other computer voice in the game too..

what I found interesting is that she actually tried to sound like the computer herself. and while there was digital post processing over it at the end, which is really obvious in some parts... I'm intrigued to know how much was fx, and how much was just her amazing voice!

at first I assumed the sharp tone changes in her talking were fx, but now I'm not so sure!

Persona 4 (I would mention Persona 3 because of Tara Platt, aka Mitsuru) had AAAAMAZING voice acting. And despite the flak for FFXIII, I loved the voice acting there too (mainly Ali Hillis and once again, Troy Baker. Not Vanille...)

VALVe(TF, L4D, Portal) and Blizzard(WC, WoW, SC) games consistently have top-notch voice acting. They're the only companies that come to mind. When I think of bad voice acting I think of Oblivion.

Planescape Torment, all the voices are perfect

Whenever anyone says games aren't art I scoff at them and point to this.
Damn it, you beat me to my obligatory PS:T plug.

Annah-of-the-shadows was voiced by Sheena Easton, too, of James Bond fame.

Portal 2 does win best because it characterized 3 main characters fully only through dialog. That's an impressive feat in any form of visual media

I have to give some props to Tales of Symphonia for the GC. It's got some really good voice acting and the characters all have their own personalities. It's got Jennifer Hale as Sheena (fantastic!), and now when I hear Scott Menville I think of Lloyd.

Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Splinter Cell ("They have guns!" "I'm shocked and amazed"), KOTOR and Dawn of War games have surprisingly good voice acting. There's just too many of them to note.

Kingdom Hearts, hands down. They got an incredible amount of the original actors from the movie worlds you visit and the originals are even better. FREAKING CHRISTOPHER LEE
