Half-Life - I suppose is up there by default, not just the direct sequels but the old add-ons Opposing Force and even Blue Shift.

Castlevania - Played the majority. My favourites being IV, Symphony of the Night, Dawn of Sorrow and probably III. Actually finished the first one despite it being glitched, yet to play a 3D one.

Thief - Well, the first two anyway. While I played the hell out of Deadly Shadows and enjoyed it to a point, it doesn't really compare to the originals.

Infamous - Probably the main reason I bought a PS3 over the 360, while certainly flawed in some respects I can't say I haven't enjoyed them alot.

Pokemon - Yeah it's a guilty pleasure. It is the same thing over and over and I've never finished any of them, yet I have soft spot it must be said.

Bioshock - I played the everloving hell out of the first one, the second though enjoyable and improves on gameplay, the story and characters take it in the ass. Infinite very nice, if a little rusty in places and could do to be a little less complicated and pretentious, otherwise great. Looking forward to the new Burial at Sea.

Assassin's Creed: until Assassin's Creed 3 (can't get on with Connor)

Assassin's Creed 3 ruined the series for me. I vowed I will never touch any AC game again, and after setting the controller down after beating it, I haven't.

OT:
I do love me some Mass Effect. The characters, story and the gameplay all are right up my alley. Only problem is the resource gathering in ME 2. Yawn.

I also really like COD as odd as it sounds. I started playing with the first one and purchased them all, except for World at War, which I played but didn't care for. I just like the set pieces and battles that started in WW2 and then moved to Vietnam, then the Modern era and now the future all while keeping it a decent product(IMO).

I really want to say Halo based on how much I loved one and two, but I can't. Halo 3 and Reach can just go fuck themselves. I still haven't and probably won't ever enjoy one second of those games. 4 was meh, but doesn't hold a candle to anything. And 2 out of 5 just isn't good enough.

Lastly I love Sid Meier's Civ franchise. I can always lose a few hours in one of his games.

The entire MegaTen series with all of its spin-offs. I haven't played a single game in the series that I haven't liked. I even like the shitty MMO "Imagine"! From Devil Summoner/Survivor/Saga to Persona to the hardcore Shin Megami Tensei games they've always treated me right.

Gears of War.

The Gears of War series (particularly Gears of War 3) has easily the best multiplayer ever made. And played with a few friends it becomes an incredibly tactical game. It also takes a large amount of skill to play effectively and so has a very dedicated community playing it. Which makes every match incredibly intense as your opponents are always very skillful.

Also unlike most other Multiplayer games that have been CODified (looking at you Halo). Gears of War is very focused on map and power weapon control, as such it takes teamwork and strategy to come out on top.

I've put more hours into the Gears of War series then any other game and enjoyed every moment of it.

The Elder Scrolls.
I have yet find anything to match the incredible feeling i get when playing any of the games from Morrowind to Skyrim. The world around you just feels alive and full of adventures and lore. There's just always more, more villages, more cities, more lands and even more continents left to explore.

Not exactly a story line series, but I would go with Civ. From 2, 3, and4, I have put in so many hours. I am about to do the same with 5..

Probably Grand Theft Auto.

It certainly isn't the most technically sound series, or the series with the strongest plot or deepest characters, but the combination of everything GTA brings to the table is what makes the games my favorite gaming experiences of all time.

My favorite game of ALL TIME is San Andreas, and it's definitely my favorite of the series. The missions, the cars, the guns, and all the different characters you meet just made it an epic experience. The game is absolutely MASSIVE, and I could spend HOURS on all the side quests just so I could get more money and have more safehouses all around the map. I was also a big fan of all the stats (muscle, stamina, weapon skills, etc.) and was pretty disappointed when they weren't included in GTA IV.

I'd have to give an honorable mention to both Mass Effect and Uncharted, although Uncharted to a lesser degree.

- Infamous.
- (Current gen) Fallout series.

I just really enjoy these series.
They can/did influence me lot when I first played them.

Well...

Final Fantasy. I know, I know. The games haven't been as good in recent memory. Hell, I flat out hate 13's combat and never finished 12 due to the boring combat and easily abused Gambit system. And yet, some of my fondest memories are playing Final Fantasy games. FFVII basically turned me from a kid that played games to a gamer. I enjoy FFVIII, though I'm well aware of it faults, and do actually like the Gunblade. While I don't love FFIX as much as others, I do enjoy it. Just didn't care for the damage limit and how useless Trances were. FFX was one of my favorites, especially if you realize that Tidus is just the idiot whose eye were watching the real hero's journey onward. And, even if not part of the main series, I adore FFT.

I'm even cautiously optimistic for FFXV and have been thinking about the revamped FFXIV. God dammit, Final Fantasy. Why is it so hard to quit you?

Infamous. You have super powers and can be good or evil in a giant sandbox. Seriously, that is enough. I love the feeling of power, but also remaining vulnerable. Infamous 3 is looking good, and I will be getting a PS4 for it and some other games.

Batman Arkham games. These games make you feel like Batman. And they do it well. With the great atmosphere, the goons freaking out, and just being a solid game, it's hard for me to not love them. Boss battles leave much to be desired. Even the second game's boss battles weren't great. Improved, but not amazing.

Kingdom Hearts. I already said that I'm a Final Fantasy fan. Are you really surprised?
While I've only played the main two in the series, I can safely say that I loved them. The combat is so much fun. The story is surprisingly good and even dark at times. There are some great characters. Seriously, why is this game so damn good? It's the dumbest idea I have ever heard! It's just plain stupid on paper. Why does it work so well?

These are probably some of my biggest loves. Though, Mass Effect, God of War, and Metal Gear Solid are worth a mention.

The Legend of Zelda, easily. I grew up with this series and some of my fondest childhood memories revolve around Zelda. However, even to this day, nothing gets me more excited then a new Zelda game. Even at its weakest, the series constantly delievers quality gameplay, imaginative level design, creative world and memorable moments.

However, I'd say BioShock is my favorite recent series.

To be honest, I really lost interest or grew out of most series I used to really like. I used to be huge on series like Prince of Persia, Assassin's Creed, Fable, Soul Calibur and God of War as a teenager but they all lost me at a certain point. For the most part, this can be due to too many installations that weren't doing anything all that interesting or from me just no longer enjoying the subject matter.

Quite a few contenders -

Runners up:
Arkham Series - really good but only 2 so far, still plenty of time for them to screw it up.

Persona - 4 would basically be carrying this for me, 3 was good but no amazing.

Street Fighter - I like these games and the convoluted story lines that come with all fighting games but I have no compulsion to get better at them as my friends wont play them.

Assassin's Creed - 1 was good, 2-1 was amazing, but its been down hill since then.

Mario Bros. - I've at least played everything in this franchise, but I stopped actually caring around the end of the N64. The new ones are fun and all but it's getting a little tired for me at this point.

Shock - I haven't played the system shock games so I wouldn't feel right including this. Also Bio2 felt kind of pointless.

Finalists:
Legend of Zelda - I love this franchise and don't see that changing any time soon. Only got interested in it around the time of the N64 though with OoT, the older ones are still a damn fun play though.

Pokemon - Dear god I have sunk some time in these games. Started with blue way back when and haven't looked back (well, I kinda skipped ruby/sapphire/emerald for a long while). I have the same problem I have with Street fighter, I have no one to play against, but I honestly don't care. Which makes the time I have sunk into these games seem all the more pointless but still ultimately enjoyable)

So, Through much deliberation the winner is...

Winner:
Final Fantasy - they're all great (from 3 onward, I played 1 and 2, they are retro fun but nothing more than that to me) 13 gave me a scare for a while but 13-2 blew those fears out of the water. 13-3 is sizing up to be amazing as well. They each have a flaw (weak story, bad mechanics, broken mechanics, bad characters) but they always make up for it in leaps and bounds in the things they get right to counter it (awesome story, good mechanics, mechanics so broken its fun, awesome characters).

There's the Tales Series, Mass Effect, Kingdom Hearts and Dragon Age. If it weren't for the last couple of games I would have said Final Fantasy, but then 13 happened. Bummer...

Tales of: Every game but Graces. I feel like I'm the only one who actually disliked that game. Tales of Abyss is probably my favorite of the series, the story is probably one of the best in any JRPG (barring SMT games)

Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep is my favorite but they're all just great. Never would have thought Disney and Square Enix would blend so well.

Final Fantasy: Even though I've played every one of them (or the majority anyway) I've only actually beaten a few of them. I still hate 13 though, everything about it was just bad.

SMT and its spinoffs: Not much needs to be said here. If you have never played a Shin Megami Tensei game then go out and do so now.

Batman Arkham: Proving super-hero video games can be both gritty and realistic while maintaining the "super" part. Superb gameplay that's simple while deep and an amazing story for both games (hopefully for the upcoming Origins as well).

Devil May Cry: The real ones not the incredibly average reboot. I really hope Capcom fixes their mistake but that seems kinda unlikely.

I'm sure I'm missing a lot more.

<-- Gee, I wonder what I would pick. It's Zelda, it's always Zelda, and will probably always be Zelda. I love the games mainly because they are built around giving you ways to have fun. Has a great balance of combat, puzzle solving, exploring, dungeon crawling, sidequests, minigames, and lore if you seek it.

Well if it counts, the Team ICO games. As SotC is technically a prequel to ICO.
This. In fact, only fans will understand my nickname.

Demon's/Dark Souls takes the second place.

I have to mention Zelda and Metroid because I'm still not bored after 25 years, so, props to Nintendo.
