Dear Your Holiness by Bayside

Hey mom, they left me here alone
Someone save me, someone save me
Hey god, I'm out here on my own
So now will you save me now

I think its funny you've been quiet for so long
When you're quiet no one proves you wrong
And dear your holiness
Your army's safe and sound
Down here dying for you

And I don't know how they found me, found me here
And I don't know how they found me, found me here

Maybe you can trick a lot of them
Maybe if you fool the best of them
The rest will come around

We're all scared
So they dressed you up in all these
Different names
I've gotta find peace with myself
Before I give you all
Before I give you anything at all

I think its funny you've been quiet for so long
When you're quiet no one proves you wrong
And dear your holiness
Your army's safe and sound
They're down here dying for you

And I don't know how they found me, found me here
And I don't know how they found me, found me here

Maybe you can trick a lot of them
Maybe if you fool the best of them
The rest will come around (around)

Been thinking that there's something more
And that you'd come down and you tell me yourself
Now I realize its just a waste of time
Another penny thrown down the well

And I don't know how they found me, found me here
And I don't know how they found me, found me here
And I don't know how they found me, found me here
(Dear your holiness, army's safe and sound)
And I don't know how they found me, found me here
(Dear your holiness, army's safe and sound)

Maybe you can trick a lot of them
Maybe if you fool the best of them
They'll come around

I don't think I've ever found another song that captured its ideas as well, although I certainly would like to. Unfortunately, this sort of content is generally reserved for essays and nonfiction books. One doesn't see a lot of artistic expression of it.

Pretty much all of When You're Evil by Voltaire.

When the Devil is too busy
And Death's a bit too much
They call on me by name you see,
For my special touch.
To the Gentlemen I'm Miss Fortune
To the Ladies I'm Sir Prize
But call me by any name
Any way it's all the same.

I'm the fly in your soup
I'm the pebble in your shoe
I'm the pea beneath your bed
I'm a bump on every head
I'm the peel on which you slip
I'm a pin in every hip
I'm the thorn in your side
Makes you wriggle and writhe.

And it's so easy when you're evil
This is the life, you see
The Devil tips his hat to me
I do it all because I'm evil
And I do it all for free
Your tears are all the pay I'll ever need.

While there's children to make sad
While there's candy to be had
while there's pockets left to pick
While there's grannies left to trip down the stairs
I'll be there, I'll be waiting 'round the corner
It's a game. I'm glad I'm in it
'Cause there's one born every minute.

And it's so easy when you're evil
This is the life, you see
The Devil tips his hat to me
I do it all because I'm evil
And I do it all for free
Your tears are all the pay I'll ever need.

I pledge my allegiance, to all things dark
And I promise on my damned soul
To do as I am told, Lord Beelzebub
Has never seen a soldier quite like me
Not only does his job, but does it happily.

I'm the fear that keeps you awake
I'm the shadows on the wall
I'm the monsters they become
I'm the nightmare in your skull
I'm a dagger in your back
An extra turn upon the rack
I'm the quivering of your heart
A stabbing pain, a sudden start.

And it's so easy when you're evil
This is the life, you see
The Devil tips his hat to me
I do it all because I'm evil
And I do it all for free
Your tears are all the pay I'll ever need
And I do it all for free
Your tears are all the pay I'll ever need
And I do it all for free
Your tears are all the pay I'll ever need

It gets so lonely being evil
What I'd do to see a smile
Even for a little while
And no one loves you when you're evil
I'm lying through my teeth!
Your tears are all the comforting I need

They speak to me on a very deep and meaningful level.

We rarely recognise the source
We barely touch upon its shores, though blinded by its force
And who's to say what's inbetween?
Can we ascend to where we've been, respond to what we've seen?
Are we in touch with things afar?
Are we to be all that we are, we dance amongst the stars

You better make your move, you make your move to where you are
And you're so far away, out of touch with who you are

We look to see the moment pass
The instant falls within our grasp
We long to make it last
And who's to say how we define
If we're to draw a constant line
A circle turns in time

You better make your move, you make your move to where you are
And you're so far away, out of touch with who you are
Why don't you reach where you are?
Why don't you shine like a star?

All together, together, all together
All together, together, all together

All together, all together,
All together, together, all together

We seldom seize upon the chance
We only glimpse it at a glance
When shaken from our trance
Fine line divides between the two
For here stands I and there stands you
Connected by one truth

You gotta make your move, you make the move to where you are
And you're so far away, out of touch with who you are
Why can't you reach where you are?
Why don't you reach where you are?
Why don't you shine like a star?

Dance of the Stars by Cast. Beautiful song. Jetstream and Magic Hour also have pretty inspiring lyrics, among others.

Little darlin' don't you see the sun is shining just for you, only today
If you hurry you can get a ray on you, come with me, just to play

Like every humming bird and bumblebee
Every sunflower, cloud and every tree
I feel so much a part of this
Nature's got me high and it's beautiful
I'm with this deep eternal universe
From death until rebirth

This corner of the earth is like me in many ways
I can sit for hours here and watch the emerald feathers play
On the face of it I'm blessed when the sunlight comes for free
I know this corner of the earth it smiles at me

So inspired of that there's nothing left to do or say
Think I'll dream, 'til the stars shine
The wind it whispers and the clouds don't seem to care
And I know inside, that it's all mine

It's the chorus of the breakin' dawn
The mist that comes before the sun is born
To a hazy afternoon in May
Nature's got me high and it's so beautiful
I'm with this deep eternal universe from death until rebirth

You know that this corner of the earth is like me in many ways
I can sit for hours here and watch the emerald feathers play
On the face of it I'm blessed when the sunlight comes for free
I know this corner of the earth it smiles at me(x4)

This corner of the earth, is like me in many ways
I can sit for hours here and watch the emerald feathers play
On the face of it I'm blessed when the sunlight comes for free
I know this corner of the earth it smiles at me

The glorious Corner of the Earth by Jamiroquai. I asked a girl out to that song once. :) JK knows his way around lyrics, fair play.

That's great, it starts with an earthquake, birds and snakes, an aeroplane
Lenny Bruce is not afraid
Eye of a hurricane listen to yourself churn
World serves its own needs, don't misserve your own needs
Feed it up a knock, speed grunt no strength no
Ladder structure clatter with fear height down height
Wire in a fire represent the seven games
In a government for hire and a combat site
Left her wasn't coming in a hurry with the furies
Breathing.. down.. your.. neck
Team by team reporters baffled trump tethered crop
Look at that low plane
Fine... then
Uh oh, overflow, population, common group but it'll do
Save yourself, serve yourself
World serves its own needs, listen to your heart bleed
Tell me with the rapture and the reverent in the right.. right
You vitriolic patriotic, slam, fight, bright, light feeling.. pretty.. psyched

It's the end of the world as we know it
It's the end of the world as we know it
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine

Six o'clock, TV hour, don't get caught in foreign tower
Slash and burn, return, listen to yourself churn
Lock him in uniform and book burning blood letting
Every motive escalate automotive incinerate
Light a candle light a motive step down step down
Watch a heel crush crush uh oh
This means no fear cavalier renegade and steer clear
A tournament a tournament a tournament of lies
Offer me solutions offer me alternatives and I decline

It's the end of the world as we know it (it's time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it (it's time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it (it's time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine

I feel fine

It's the end of the world as we know it (it's time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it (it's time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it (it's time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine

The other night I tripped a nice continental drift divide
Mount St. Edelite Leonard Bernstein
Leonid Breshnev Lenny Bruce and Lester Bangs
Birthday party cheesecake jelly bean boom
You symbiotic patriotic slam but neck.. right?.. right

It's the end of the world as we know it (it's time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it (it's time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it (it's time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine

REM's weird and wonderful It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine). Biting, but incomprehensible, political commentary for the win...

Also, Leonard! Bernstein!

Bodies fill the fields I see, hungry heroes end
No one to play soldier now, no one to pretend
Running blind through killing fields, bred to kill them all
Victim of what said should be, a servant till I fall

Soldier boy, made of clay
Now an empty shell
Twenty-one, only son
But he served us well
Bred to kill, not to care
Do just as we say
Finished here. Greetings, Death,
He's yours to take away

Back to the front
You will do what I say, when I say
Back to the front
You will die when I say, you must die
Back to the front
You coward, you servant, you blind man

Barking of machine-gun fire does nothing to me now
Sounding of the clock that ticks, get used to it somehow
More a man, more stripes you wear, glory-seeker trends
Bodies fill the fields I see
The slaughter never ends

Soldier boy, made of clay
Now an empty shell
Twenty-one, only son
But he served us well
Bred to kill, not to care
Do just as we say
Finished here. Greetings, Death,
He's yours to take away

Back to the front
You will do what I say, when I say
Back to the front
You will die when I say, you must die
Back to the front
You coward, you servant, you blind man

Why am I dying?
Kill, have no fear
Lie, live off lying
Hell, hell is here

I was born for dying

Life planned out before my birth, nothing could I say
Had no chance to see myself, molded day by day
Looking back I realize, nothing have I done
Left to die with only friend
Alone I clench my gun

Soldier boy, made of clay
Now an empty shell
Twenty-one, only son
But he served us well
Bred to kill, not to care
Just do as we say
Finished here. Greetings, Death,
He's yours to take away

Back to the front
You will do what I say, when I say
Back to the front
You will die when I say, you must die
Back to the front
You coward, you servant, you blind man back to the front

Back to the front [x4]

My favorite lyrics at the moment are from the song Orgasm=love by Psychostick...it is one of the funniest songs i've heard...and it's even funnier when my boyfriend tries to be all romantic and serenade me with it..XD

Before you wahhhh at me I did a search and nothing immediate came up, the last time this was done was 2008 apparently.

What's your favourite lyric, the artist/band and why? Is it because the lyric is clever, is it because you can associate it with something in your life or is it for another reason?
Rx Bandits
Overcome (The Recapitulation)

The future is held in the hands
Who right the textbooks
Ignorance is bred when falsified thinking is taught
To the youth instead of
Past mistakes and mind elevation,
Like the graves that manifest destiny has created
So we can build our
Capitalist consumer based economy,
To build, market,
And sell commodities we don't need
But we are trained to believe like celebrity imaging
Well I'm here to take my feelings back and I hope That you will be with me
why? well it flows very well when you say it quite quickly and it has a lot to say about the human race.

I understand the idea
That ADD is an imbalance,
Depression that is an imbalance,
Of chemicals it makes sense.

But could you argue that everything is?
Joy, fear, anger, sadness?
Can you diagnose love?
Can you diagnose loss?

-Reuben
-An Act of Kindness

It's the end of a long track about (i think from repeated listening to the lyrics) a young mother giving up a child who winds up in an institution.

I put on my pointed hat
And my black and silver suit,
And I check my gunpowder pack
And I strap the stick on my back.
And, dressed as a rocket on Waterloo Bridge--
Nobody seems to see me.
Then, with the fuse in my hand,
And now shooting into the night
And still as a rocket,
I land in the river.

Was it me said you were crazy?
I put on my cloudiest suit,
Size 5 lightning boots, too.

'Cause I am a rocket
On fire.
Look at me go, with my tail on fire,
With my tail on fire,
On fire.
Hey, look at me go, look at me...
Kate Bush's Rocket's I love this song because it is so moving and positive.

Hmmm, anything that's Disney is just sheer brilliance. Old stuff and films though, including the latest stuff with Pixar, definitely not talking about the new TV stuff (HM and so on...).

Also, these:

will never believe in anything again
I will never believe in anything again
Though change will come
Oh, change will come
I will never believe in anything again

We will never believe again
Kick drum beating in my chest again
We will never believe again
Preach electric to a microphone stand, oh

It feels like fourteen carats but no clarity
When I look at the man who would be king
The man who would be king
Goes to the desert
The same war his dad rehearsed
Came back with flags on coffins and said
"We won, oh we won"

These are two songs from the album 'Folie a Deux'. Described by FOB themselves as their most political album to date. Doesn't take a genius to work out they're probably all Democrats.

In addition:

Go now if you want it.
Another world awaits you
Don't you give up on it.
You bite the hand that feeds you.

All alone cold fields you wander
Memories of it, cloud your sight
Fills your dreams, disturbs your slumber
Lost your way, a fallen knight

Hold now, aim is steady
Another world awaits you.
One thousand years--you ready?
The other world it takes you

Go into the sand and the dust in the sky
Go now, there's no better plan than to do or to die
Free me pray to the faith in the face of the light
Feed me fill me with sin now get ready to fight

You know, you will
You know, you will
You know it, you know it, you know it, you know that you will
You know, you know, you know, you know that you will
You know, you will

Fight fight fight
Fight fight fight
Fight fight fight
Fight fight fight

Hope dies and you wander
The other world it makes you
Dreams they rip asunder
The other world it hates you
Free now ride up on it
Up to the heights it takes you
Go on if you want it.
Another world awaits you

All these, except for Otherworld, are favourites of mine because I love the beauty of the Japanese language. At my old school we had each year Japanese exchange students come, and each time they'd sing Japanese folk songs for us in a special assembly. Absolutely wonderful :)

As for Otherworld, I just feel it sums up Tidus's situation in the game perfectly.
I enjoyed both of them FOB songs but some of their lyrics in other songs are pretty odd.

"The time my dad called me a horseshoe crab and i asked him if throwing it back into the sea would bring our luck back"

Either <spoiler=Composure> Allow what's done to preach new insight to your life.
Hindsight is perfect vision.
The past is easiest to see.
Clear a path, Stand aside.
We're carrying the torch now,
There's no stopping us.
You think you're everything to everyone.
Go ahead, Partake in it,Justify it.
Become engulfed in it.
It will eat you alive.
This is not a one way road,
You're headed for the dead end.
You might think you're everything to everyone.
Well pardon me if I intrude.
You're not a perfect man in a perfect world,
Look at where your ignorance has brought you.
All this will be buried.
Like the fall of Rome, you will come crashing down.
The truth hurts, but denial's what will kill you.
All that you loved, all that you treasure, will pass with time.
Blinded by the inability to see beyond flesh and blood.
Shifting blame with a log in your eye.
Insisting that a string tied to your limbs is what's to blame.

or <spoiler=I am the Arsonist> Throwing up at the thought of you two.
How could you do this? My best friend with my bride,
Now you tell me you are leaving.

They'll see the fire in the dark night sky,
I hope you're home when I arrive.
And if theirs a pyre in the afterlife,
I'll be there again to light the match.

Burn! Gasoline, fire, it's the perfect combination.
Light it up. Burn it down. Breathe in my addiction.

They'll see the fire in the dark night sky,
I hope you're home when I arrive.
And if theirs a pyre in the afterlife,
I'll be there again to light the match.

"I am the light that warms up your body, that sets free the demons inside.
I am the one that that never ignores you, that never will let you down."

They'll suspect but they'll never prove that I was there.
In my veins, I feel the rush of adrenaline.
It's so hard to run away when I want to stay,
To watch it burn, watch it turn into dust.

"I am the light that warms up your body, that sets free the demons inside.
I am the one that that never ignores you, that never will let you down."

And anything by Protest the Hero is gold.

Mine has got to be from Slipknot and Disaster piece= 'i'm gonna cut your throat and fuck the wound, push my face in and feel the swoon...'

3 reasons:
1)OMFG HOW FREAKIN' DISTURBIN'?!!!
2)It's the first lyrics of the first slipknot song I EVER listened to
and 3)... it's Slipknot y'know?

Either "Trigger" (In Flames), "Metaphor" (In Flames), or "What's It For" (Yokko Kanno)
Have we lost the spark or a guide?
What's the latest on the screen?
Can't be too late to turn around.
I need all the help from you

I need to find something to blame for a long lost time

I am running from something I don't know
I am searching for something, which way to go?
I am trying to separate what's real
I am running in a wheel

Is it dark or is it bright?
What's the latest on the screen?
Please tell me my name
I haven't checked it today

I am running from something, I don?t know
I am searching for something, which way to go?
I am trying to separate what?s real
I?m running in a wheel

From green to red our days pass by
Waiting for a sign to tell us why
Are we dancing all alone?
Collect some stars to shine for you
And start today there are only a few
The sign of times my friend

Avoid infinity
Are you for real?

Just scratch the surface
And you will find
Something to blame for a long lost time

From green to red our days pass by
Waiting for a sign to tell us why
Are we dancing all alone?
Collect some stars to shine for you
And start today there are only a few
The sign of times my friend

Just scratch the surface
And you will find
Something to blame for a long lost time

From green to red our days pass by
Waiting for a sign to tell us why
Are we dancing all alone?
Collect some stars to shine for you
And start today there are only a few
The sign of times my friend

From green to red our days pass by
Waiting for a sign to tell us why
Are we dancing all alone?
Collect some stars to shine for you
And start today there are only a few

From green to red our days pass by
Waiting for a sign to tell us why
Collect some stars to shine for you
Start today there are only a few

You stole my pure intentions
You are the sickness in between
Let me in, I?ll bury the pain

You taught me to be sad as you
You almost made me take it all
Let me in, I?ll bury the pain

You bend me and you shake me
You beg me then you break me
Let me in, I?ll bury the pain

You made me feel like a sinner
Now you fear you?ll die alone
Let me in, I?ll bury the pain

The sickness that you are
A plague that made me starve
Do you think you can show me
How I come this far?

The sickness that you are
A plague that made me starve
Do you think you can show me
How I come this far?

I feel it?s taking over
And everything falls dark
Break me open, the desperate cry

The sickness that you are
A plague that made me starve
Do you think you can show me
How I come this far?

The sickness that you are
A plague that made me starve
Do you think you can show me
How I come this far?

I'm not too sure I can go much further
I'm really not sure things are even getting better
I'm so tired of me that has to disagree
I'm so tired of me that's in control

I woke up to see the sun shining all around me
how could it shine down on me?
you'd think that It would notice
I can't take it anymore
had to ask myself,
"what's it really for?"

everything I tried to do it didn't matter
and now I might be better off just rolling over
cause you know I tried so hard but couldn't change a thing
and it hurts so much I might as well let it go

I can't really take the sun shining all around me
why would it shine down on me?
you'd think that it would have noticed
I no longer believe
I can't help tellin' myself
"it don't mean a thing"

I woke up to find the sun shining all around me
how could it shine down on me?
sun shining all it's beauty
why would it shine down on me?
you'd think that it would notice
I can't take it anymore
just had to ask myself
"what's it really for?"

All three just really strike chords with me. Also: Corrected the lyrics.

The lyrics from 'I was only nineteen' by Redgum. All of it's good, but in particular:

Four week operation
where any step could mean your last one on two legs.
It was a war within yourself.
But you wouldn't let your mates down,
'till they had you dusted off.
So you closed your eyes and thought about something else

And then someone yelled out CONTACT
and the bloke behind me swore.
We hooked in there for hours,
then a god-almighty roar

Oh, and anything written by Tim Minchin, 'cos all his songs are damn funny.

Leonard Cohen`s Hallilujah

`She tied you to a kitchen chair, she broke your back and cut your hair`

I just love that lyrical phrase because it speaks so slowly of harsh betrayal and bitter memories. It comes at you so unexpectedly and is a story of malicious women and broken hearts...although...at times I suspect I may be that woman....But it shows that even the greatest among us, can fall by a mere deed.

The second is the misheard lyrics of `wishmaster` with the whole `steven seagull thing`. Not profound but it makes me laugh a lot.
