Very simple topic who is your favourite metal/ hardrock singer/ vocalist and why...

Personally mines David Draiman of Disturbed because of his power, range and uniqueness

Annette Olzen and Tarja Turunen of Nightwish
Sharon Den Adel from Within Temptation
James LaBrie - Dream Theater
and probably ol' David as well because he's pretty awesome

EDIT: Why? The women because I just love female singer, especially those with operatic tendancies, more so directed at Tarja there
And James LaBrie for his range, easily switch between soft and melodic and then going full on screamy with some of the new stuff.

Roy Khan of Kamelot, a male operatic singer in a metal band is pretty rare and awesome.

Kyo of Dir En Grey, beside Mike Patton no one else really comes close to the crazy range of stuff he can do with his voice.

Jonathan Davis of Korn, unique as hell. Not proper singing or screaming style by any past measure, but it works and I love it.

I have come to kill that good impression you have of him! HAHAHAHAHA!

Anyway, for now I'm going to say Jack White. I've been listening to a lot of The White Stripes over the last few days, and he manages so many different styles across their various songs.

[sub]Yes, it's not hard rock, but I don't care.[/sub]

Well it's a massive task to find vocals I actually like, and since none of them are lying around in the metal genre (at least not ones I've heard) I'll have to go with the singer for Radiohead.

But if I had to choose my favourite singer in metal, I guess Tool's singer, even though I absolutely hate the vox in most Tool songs. The reason is because they chuck a vocoder on with INSANELY high low-pass and it makes him sound like he's gently nagging you from inside a wall, then yelling from inside a wall in the choruses.

It's significantly improved in songs like this, though.

James Hettfield. Metallica
Phil Anselmo. Pantera

Love their singing styles, Brutal yet beautiful.

[Edit]
Johan Hegg. Amon Amarth

Love his growling too.

I really Like Tobias Sammet of Avantasia and Edguy, also Devin Townsend, Chuck Schuldiner (not the best but is by far very unique), Paul Masvidal of Cynic, and Tony Martin and Dio formerly of Black Sabbath.

Howard Jones of Killswitch Engage has an awesome voice, so does Rody Walker from Protest The Hero.

PtH are full of awesome, it's not fair.

Well Chester Bennington from Linkin Park is an amazing singer.
But I'm tied between him and Angela Gossow from Arch Enemy she's equally amazing

Mikael Åkerfeldt all the way. Especially his work on Bloodbath's Resurrection Through Carnage is just amazing. I know very few vocalists who can grunt with such definition.

One of my favourites is Devin Townsend, because of his fantastic range. The guy can do so much with his voice.
However, my favourite vocalist at the moment is probably Corporate Death, from Macabre. He has a good singing voice, but I like him because he sings in a way no one else does. Check out the songs "Vampire Of Dusseldorf", "You're Dying To Be With Me" or "Jack the Ripper" on Youtube, if you're a fan of more extreme music.

Dammit ninja'd, her vocal range is insane (she can actually sing normally too, but doesn't with arch enemy)

And although he can't sing normally very well, I love Rob Fylnn from Machine Head's growling voice, it's so unique.

Also Burton C. Bell from Fear Factory has an excellent vocal range.
