Did you get to the twist? Because that reversal was really well done. Jaw dropping, I'd say.Funkysandwich said:Bioshock was a terrible game. The best thing about it was the water effects.V TheSystem V said:I apologise for the lack of thinking about any other games, but Half Life 2 is the one that stood out for me. I know there are other good games, that's why I said MAYBE.
To be honest, I forgot about Bioshock, and I did indeed love the story of that game. Bioshock 2 also looks amazing. Still don't believe the storyline of Modern Warfare 1 made much sense, but then again Modern Warfare 2's storyline was very, very confusing and left me asking a lot of questions. Modern Warfare makes up for the lack of story by making the levels just plain awesome. The Ghillies in the Mist and Cliffhanger missions are two of the best levels of any game I have ever played.
Once again, sorry for the lack of recognition towards Bioshock.
The only good thing about it is that I have a friend named Andrew Ryan.
OK, but surely if a DEAD American was left at the scene of a terrorist activity people would think he was a victim? He wasn't shot by officials, as all the guards and stuff are dead, and he suffered a bullet to the brain, he would have died instantly, and wouldn't have waited until all the riot shield guys and airport security were dead before he finally kicked the bucket; there would definitely be suspicion of foul play.MW1 was good, and the storyline in both MW1 and MW2 ISN'T HARD TO FOLLOW!
MW2 is quite simple, Makarov plans a terrorist attack on a Russian airport, leaves a dead American there, Russia blames America for the attack and invades using information from a downed satellite to jam America's warning systems.
Shell casings used in the attack lead you to Brazil, where the weapons supplier tells you to free a certain prisoner, who may have more information. You then free Captain Price, in order to attempt to get Makarov, but General Shepherd turns on you, forcing Price and Soap to ignore Makarov and kill Shepherd.
Extremely simplified, but it took two paragraphs to explain the entire storyline.
But I digress.
I'd have to say it is, considering its widespread appeal and influence on the genre. I could understand if the game just wasn't your cup of tea, but from a game design perspective it's pretty solid.LordCuthberton said:I found HL2 very lacking in the "Good game" area. Is that just me?
Bioshock is definitely subtle, but it's no more so than the original HL2 was all those years before. After all, much of Bioshock's storytelling was lifted from the technique described in this article: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/issues/issue_236/6999-Gordon-Freeman-Private-Eye I also think Valve is a little better at directing the player's attention to environmental "vistas" than 2k is.ThrobbingEgo said:Did you get to the twist? The thing about Bioshock, aside from it's ending cut-scenes, is that it's subtle. At its best, anyway, subtle. You can miss the subtle bits. (Look into why Jack can use the Vita-chambers.)
I got most of the recorded messages left lying around, and that was a good feature. I just don't think it was the revolutionary game people said it was. It was so friggin' boring I couldn't play it much longer, and I deleted it to make room for other stuff. The gameplay was so uninteresting, I just didn't care enough about the story to finish the game.ThrobbingEgo said:Did you get to the twist? Because that reversal was really well done.
