Brandish for the SNES. The odd control style (overhead view, but the map would turn with the player, so "up" was always "forward") turned most people who tried it off, and I'm pretty sure it flopped horribly as a result... but somehow I found it engaging and challenging.

Wait I totally forgot.

Voodoo Vince for the Original X-Box. Funny game, kind of awkward platformer, but really fun overall.

It doesn't work with the 360 though. Bastards...

Battle for Wesnoth.

Fun, well-made, all around great strategy game.
Linux nerd FTW.

It's tempting to say something like Airborne Ranger, or Head Over Heels for the C64, but I'll go with Crimson Skies which, while not unheard of certainly isn't as well known as it should be.

...and no, not the XBOX one, the proper one.

Mischief Makers on the N64 is probably my favorite game of all time. Which is actually kinda funny because if someone's actually played that game, there's probably a 95% chance they hate it.

NoX by Westwood Studios... Came out same year as Diablo 2... and was an overshadowed gem... I wish they'd make another RPG like that..

..Though, Magicka comes pretty close.

Well, there's GrimGrimoire, a gorgeous Vanillaware RTS/RPG hybrid.

And perhaps less well-known:
Vampire Night, a really fun light gun game for the PS2. Has awesomely horrible acting and a completely nonsensical plot. Of course, it doesn't work on new TVs =(

Oh yeah, and Project Diva 2nd. It's not obscure at all, but none of my friends are into Vocaloids, so it might be unknown around these parts as well. One of the best rhythm games ever.

Uh, I think it's called Cleopatra. I got it for 5 bucks at target. It's fairly fun, although I was young when I bought it so I could never figure it out.

Republic commando for the original xbox. God I love that game. Whenever I mention it though,I sware that I can sense the ocean of "what" about to appear. I know alot of you guys haveplayed it, but in my perspective there ya go.
Literally no one I've ever known has heard of this game.
For a gritty FPS it really had me invested.
I shall spend the rest of my existence waiting for the very necessary sequel.

EXTRA:
This game taught us that "Blast" was a curse word.
Republic Commando was/is awesome! Was well gutted when I completed it, and yes it doesn need a sequel.

I cant believe that no one's heard of it though, thats crazy.

I would say Metro 2033 but since this is the InterWEBZ forum about video games, I am betting it's a lot of people have heard about it.

Majesty 2, Killing Floor and Sacred 2 are pretty good, semi-unheard games as well.

Gitaroo Man Lives! for the psp. It's probably the best rhythm game I have ever played. It has an awesome original soundtrack and is just so insane and original.

Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean is one of my top 3 favourite games of all time.
Dude, I loved those games!!!! Some may have heard of this, especially if they're old Zero Punctuation fans, but Psychonauts should have been a big hit, it's a great game, probably the best of it's kind that was on the PS2

Rogue Galaxy was pretty good. I enjoyed it, the style, the game play, it was just a little different and I'm the only person I know that has even played it.

WIld 9 on the PS1 and Evil Twin on the PS2.
Never played Evil Twin but Wild 9 was awesome, I want to add Okage to the list a little PS2 RPG, the generic fighting mechanics made it a grind to get through the gameplay but the hilarious script more then made it worth while.

Psi-Ops. Probably the best game featuring psychic abilities.
Also, Zone of the Enders and Gundam: Journey to Jaburo. Both games feature giant mech combat. ZOE is more fast paced and and Gundam is slower paced but still fun.

Well for me theres buck bumble for the N64. Don't know anyone who has even heard of that game, essiantially you where a bee that was fighting an army of bugs (led by a wasp)

Also there was a game called Team Buddies, fun little game that looked childish at a glance, but full of OTT violence and bad language... really fun gameplay too

I'm certain theres more, could probably spend 4 hours listing Gameboy games, but nah!

Big Brain Wolf, Puzzle Agent, and The Misadventures of P. B. Winterbottom. What can I say, I'm a sucker for Steam's puzzle genre.
