OP, what pray tell do you have against the 90s? Stuff it, I'm going for LAPD Future Cop. The single player was cool, but it had a multiplayer mode which is among the greatest I've ever had the pleasure of playing. It was basically an RTS you controlled whilst tooling around in a transforming hovercar/mech with a metric tonne of heavy weaponry. 3PS/RTS hybrid: it is possible.

The Path, by Tale Of Tales, a small indie studio. It's a take on the older translations of Little Red Riding Hood, stories that were much darker than the current versions. A "survival horror" that focuses less on "horror" and and more on deep, dark, disturbing themes. It uses a lot of grapical and aural themes that are quite unknown in most modern games, giving it a truly creepy feel.

Which path will you take? The path of needles, or the path of pins?
I love this game. Hell I don't even feel right calling it a game. I don't know what to call it. Tale of Tales makes some truly creative and enlightening stuff. The Graveyard is amongst my favorites in the "indescribable" genre.

I like a lot of unknownish games, Zeno Clash had a lot of interesting premises, Sphinx (ninja'd) was amazing, I loved the first Maximo on the PS2, everybody's heard of Sly Cooper (I loved that whole series), and recently fell in love with a few new games. Breach (weird, I know, its flimsy, but fun), Chime, and Bloody Good Time are all just really enjoyable.

And of course who could forget Typing of The Dead. Now that were semi-on-the-subject, Virtua Cop (the arcade version) and Sky Pirates (I'll be really surprised if anyone has heard of that massive arcade game) to name a few more.

Nobody has yet listed Riviera: The Promised Land or Tales of Symphonia. Two fantastic games that nobody I've met has ever heard of.
tales of symphonia is one of my favorite games of all time... second only to the original legend of zelda
I'd like to say you have great taste. Although I can't rightly say that only knowing two of your favorites. But Tales is actually my favorite game of all time ^_^

Body Harvest for the N64, it was not that good actually but I loved it, it was sort off like GTA mixed with War of the Worlds, it had such eerie music that really set the mood for the story but it had ridiculously bright and colorful graphics, like the main character's costume was bright orange. Well anyway don't know if I'd still like it since I have not played it in years and never got to play it that much since it was a friend's copy and I never found it anywhere.

Has anyone said "Paper Mario"?

I know it's a big name series, but it is my HANDS DOWN favorite video game ever, and I'm not even joking. I feel it was WAAAAY underappreciated.

The game Allegiance has been mentioned a couple times in escapist articles, usually calling it one of the best games you've never played. It's an RTS, but most of the units are controlled by people....and by people I mean idiots....and by idiots, I mean me. The game has a rather steep learning curve, so you spend a lot of the early time in the game limping back home in an escape pod while the battle rages on. After the game was abandoned by Microsoft, one of the developers found a small, dedicated community of devout fans, so he got the source code opened, up. Now it's all free, and community run/developed. You can check it out at http://www.freeallegiance.org

The game is quite incredible and very deep.

Zone of the Enders: Second Runner for the PS2 was a great game that nobody I have mentioned it too knew about. It's a mech fighter with an anime style, and was a Hideo Kojima game, so the lack of knowledge about it always surprised me. I went back and played the first game after beating it, but it wasn't nearly as good in my opinion. Another one I can think of is Colony Wars 3 for the original Play Station, I picked it up for like 3 bucks at a Sam's Club right before I got my PS2 and it was the last PS1 title I ever bought. It was an outer space flight sim style shooter, had great graphics and a sweet story with extremely varied level design and gameplay mechanics. Man I miss that game..

You don't hear much about Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines much these days, which is a shame because despite its apparent bugginess (I never ran into any bugs myself), out of all the different vampire games out there, this one is actually pretty damn good, with a strong story, believable characters, and a deep, dark world.

I've heard it called an "experience" before, which I think is fitting.

Outside of the Zero Punctuation review... I can probably very safely say Psychonauts is an obscure game that I love

Try not to list any games from like the 1990's and I know a lot of these threads are made but this time you CANNOT list one that has been listed.

Mine is Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy. Its probably a FACT that I was amongst the 5 people that actually played this game. It was/is still one of the best adventure games I've ever played. It combines action and platforming (controlling Sphinx) and puzzle soling (thats REAL PUZZLE solving, not push block here jump on switch, you'll genuinely need to think) for the mummy character. The story between them both and how they come together make it a great game.

Read IGN's review it got an 8.5

PS: Legend of Dragoon, Chrono Trigger/Cross, and the rest of Squares awesome PS1 RPG lineup was most likely played by a majority of us. Try to list a random game you bought that surprised you.
Hell, I remember Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy. I freaking loved that game. Shame it doesn't get more praise...

I really enjoyed Trapt, which is the ps2 incarnation of the Tecmo's Deception games from ps1, and the best bargain bin game ive came across accidentally was Stubb's the Zombie for xbox. Im pretty sure both those games flew under most peoples radar.

Chibi-Robo (as well as the DS WalMart-only sequel, Park Patrol). The first is probably widely enough known. But the second (seeing as how it was only sold at WalMart) is a bit more obscure, but just as fun. 4 inch tall robot cleaning up a home (its a park in the second) and saving marriages and healing families. All the while, talking to toys that come to life. ^^

Muppets: Party Cruise. One of my favorite party games. It plays out like a board game. You move the Muppets around the board doing things like making opponents lose turns or taking control of them or collecting party favors from mini-game doors. And then there's the kickass mini-games. Speed Bingo. Competitive pool (hard to describe, it's really fast-paced). Remote control boats in a sink. Love it.
It's not particularly original, but it's polished and fun.

American McGee's Scrapland. A noir style murder mystery on an all robot planet. Need I say more?
Vehicles hold the main gameplay, though. It's about ship customization and whatnot. Not perfect, but fun and interesting.

Armed & Dangerous. A Lucas Arts game. I believe it isn't well known, but I could be wrong. Full of great one-liners. Wonderfully fun storyline. Neat weapons (topsy-turvy bombs and shark guns). All around wonderful game.

Neopets: PetPet Adventures: The Wand of Wishing. Hack and Slash RPG. Adorable. Neat visuals. Well done. All around polished. I'd have loved to seen more Neopets games with this quality. They did right by me.

Syberia. This is probably pushing the limits of well-known games. Intriguing story. Beautiful visuals with a wonderful clockwork style. One of my favorite opening scenes of any game. ^^

I could go on, but I bet that's enough for now. xD

Dungeon keeper 1 and 2. Freespace 1 and 2, honostly anything that can be found on GoodOldGames.com's game selection counts towards this discussion i think.
