Hydralisks, Zealots, Seige Tanks and Carriers for Starcraft

Skirmishers and Dragoons and Organ GUns in AOE3

Teutonic Knights and Cataphracts in AOE2

Also wow, basically the only RTSs that get played on the escapist are C&C and Starcraft.

My childhood was dominated by SNES and Age of Empires 2

Edit: Hover Tanks in the first Empire Earth were sweet, you couldn't make them in game only in map editor but they HOVERED!

Edit Again:

The Greek Heroes from Age Of Mythology.

They can't technically die.
Aww damn... I forgot AOM.

Polyphemus is epic, Satyrs are my favourite next to Automatons though, I did the units you place in Map Editor attack before you playtest glitch, and then dropped an Egyptian titan into the middle of 50 satyrs.

It died before it touched the ground. =D

The Shogun battleship from RA3, the most powerful ship in the game. and its cannons make short work of any land targets within range (A very big range). And it can ram other ships.

Anything that provides death from above. If it's hit'n'run it's only better... Air superiority is my thing, been doing that since the first C&C.

My recent favourite, however, are the jetpack-equipped Space Marine assault squads from Dawn of War II. Jump in, dispense massacre, jump out before they know what hit'em.

In Dawn of War 1, before all the expansions it was possible to drop pod in practically 5 units of terminators straight into the enemies base. A game winning thing made of awesome.

I don't know if this really counts but I'd have to say my favorite unit is the Sunken Colony from Starcraft. If you have pockets of 4-6 of them set up in lines and rectangles its very hard to get by on a ground assault (that isn't by ten million billion zerglings).

I also remember liking the ogres from Warcraft II if only to hear them say "We're ready maste- I'm not ready!"

After that I'd say the Cho Ku Nu (I believe that's how they're spelt) from Age of Empires II. They were the Chinese speical unit complete with rapidfire crossbows. With a unit of those you would have a ludicrous amount of arrows going around in addition to them making a hilarious yelling sound every time they fired.
I guess I don't play a lot of RTS. If it was turn-based strategy I could go on for an hour or so on my favorite Heroes of Might and Magic III units.

Zeke was fucking awesome in Rise of Legends.

How can you not love the little guy?
Especially in siege mode, with his little welding mask...

Dolphins and War Bears in C&C Red Alert 3. Allied Dolphins fighting Communist Bears is not made of win, it is the defenition of win.

The MIRV with a trainer (when I feel especially vindictive toward the comp) so I can back that up with about thirty mammoths and warhawks(?) each, then I just fly around power down their base and watch them struggle like a fish on a boat.

Human Guard Tower or Big Bertha, one of the two.

One because it has served me through way too many games, and the other because it was incredibly awesome.

(and yes, I have played all sorts of RTS. ;/)
