so people of the escapist
has there ever been a moment in a game that has ever been so mind-blowingly epic that it turns the game to sheer gold, even if it is just for a moment that made an impact on your life forever?
or is there just a bit on a game that you particularly enjoyed because how realistic the combat was and the adrenaline really got pumping through your veins. or maybe you're favourite moment is the first time you slice an enemy to bits with a chainsaw on GoW.
any way my personal favourite was when I first stepped out of the vault on fallout 3, it made the world seem so large and it massively contrasted with the small corridors you had been fighting down for the last half hour of your life. it was the bit of spectical that new Vegas and the elder scrolls cant match, yes oblivion has a bit at the beginning where you are in a prison cell and you have to stop the king getting assassinated but you can blast through it in about ten seconds especially if you use magic. also in oblivion you have a large, clear goal that actually seemed to matter, which subtracted from the feeling of opportunity. personally I just wandered in the opposite direction to where I was supposed to ask about my dad and still managed to find myself in rivet city about 3 hours in.

I definitely agree about the Fallout 3 thing. That really was an amazing moment.

Also, I'd say one for me is the first battle in Costume Quest. Just seeing your little cardboard robot costume transform into a 200 foot tall robot mecha thing for the first time is unbelievably awesome.

Skip to about 5:35 if you haven't seen it already:

The opening of Bioshock and the twist

just all of bioshock really

on a lighter note it was pretty funny first time you enter the strip in Fallout NV and your greeted by the sight of vomiting NCR troopers

also a bunch of NCR ladies who were playing in the ultra lux fountain, hilarious oh and I swear I saw an NCR trooper chasing a brahmin through the strip

Just to be that one contrarian who posts something from a more niche title....

Record of Agarest War. When Borgnine eats Winfield. That was hilarious.

Bioshock's reveal, as well as Arcanum's. The final confrontation in Arcanum also counts. Terranigma had a few, mostly

Getting back to Crysta

But the best one of them? Planescape: Torment. Fortress of Regrets. All of it.

There are lot's of great moment's in gaming.
Here are few of my many favourite ones.

System Shock 2 - Ending. It is soo epic and ends in a cliffhanger.

Legend of Dragoon - Lavitz's death. It was a sad moment.

Dino Crisis - The times when Trex suddenly appeared.

Resident Evil Remake - Meeting Lisa Trevor the first time.

Jungle Strike - End of missions, the bgm is so awesome.

The dig - finding the life crystal pool.

Metroid prime - going inside the sunken pirate space ship.

The final level of Halo: CE

You're driving a Warthog at full speed through the Pillar of Autumn as it's exploding around you. As you're navigating obstacles and catching insane air off of ramps, there's a crazy three-way battle raging between the Covenant, the Flood, and the Sentinels. Invariably all of them take pot-shots at you, and you can't help but run some of them over in your wake. To complete the ensemble, the soundtrack's blaring the iconic Halo theme in its full glory.
No other game in the series has even come close to such a pulse-pounding finale.

Also, the big revelation in Knights of the Old Republic, when it's revealed that
your character is in fact Darth Revan. It was such a masterful plot twist that I literally just sat there in slack-jawed astonishment the first time around. Subsequent playthroughs reveal that there are definitely hints, but if you're not looking for them it really comes out of left field.

First time I beat the top Ranking Raven in Armored core 3. he kept on beating me senseless in the arena. Then one match, we took each other out at the same time: him with a well placed sniper shot, and me with a well placed shot from my grenade launcher. It was priceless.

WOULD YOU KINDLY. Honestly, it was 1:30am, I couldn't sleep, and I was drugged up on cough medicine. Playing Bioshock in that state was bad enough, but when the twist hit I was like OMG WHAT THE FLYING MONKEYS and actually did a Google search to make sure I wasn't just trippin'. Then I replayed the game the next day sober and it still blew my mind a second time.

Also when the Watcher on Ilos revealed the true nature of the Citadel, which caused Garrus's comment about why the Keepers stayed away from one particular statue on the Presidium to come back and smack me in the face. Hard. I was literally sat there with my mouth hanging open, lol.

And there are several Alan Wake moments, but I don't remember them too well. Talking to the two rockers was one of them, though.

I LOVED that part. So fun, so cool.

Frack. I need to replay Halo CE again. Actually, I should replay the entire series.

Arkham Asylum. The third Scarecrow fight.

I almost threw my controller out a window but pretty soon I was laughing hysterically at the sadistic programmers.

Oh man, that final conversation is one of the best in videogames.

MGS2 and MGS3 are also full of epic 'moments'.

999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors

The game is a masterpiece. 999 tells a story in way that can only be accomplished on the Nintendo DS. The game plays out regularly enough and there isn't anything particular amazing about it for most of the game. Basically, it's a slow 25-30 hour build up to the greatest final 5-7 hours in any game ever. The game has multiple endings but when you see the final conclusive ending, you'll see the game in a whole new perspective. It's the best ending ever. 999 immediately became my favorite game of all-time, beating out Deus Ex. If you doubt the effectiveness of Video Games as a story-telling medium play 999. I used to think that books and films would always be better at story-telling. However, 999 shows that some stories can only be told through videogames.

I'd put the ending in a spoiler but not enough people have played this game. It's a shame 999 isn't getting the credit it deserves. The story and gameplay is woven perfectly together. It is an amazing accomplishment: a brilliant story, told brilliantly.
