I'm currently making a playlist of all my favourite video game music. I want music specifically written for video games rather than general music which has been used on video games. I definitely want to include some Castlevania tracks like Bloody Tears in there - maybe a piano arrangement. The rest are up for debate - any inspiration from any of you would be much appreciated!

Cheers!

Since the announcement of the sequel, I've been playing Evil Genius again. It has a great soundtrack.

Any specific music style? I love the soundtrack from Final Fantasy VI in general.

...and the last part of Dancing Mad.

Goddamn! All this music gave me a big nostalgia trip!

I?ve thought about this moment every day since I played this game [a dozen times] over a year ago. INSIDE is such a cerebral game, and this moment is nigh impossible to describe how emotional it was for me, especially when it swells at the end. I?ve heard a lot of good video game music, but this one will stick with me forever. Like the game itself, it?s outwardly simple, but the depths it takes one mentally and emotionally are unrivaled imho.

Take your pick from practically anything from the Persona 5 soundtrack. I have no clue what an "acid jazz" soundtrack is supposed to mean but if this is it then it's my new favourite genre. I'm growing pretty certain that Shoji Meguro is a god of music after all these years of consistently excellent soundtracks. Like he writes all these light hearted pop type tunes for Persona 4 then just makes something totally different for P5 and pulls it off better than he has ever done before.

Kingdom Hearts - Spooks of Halloween Town by Yoko Shimomura Halloween Towns battle music. This song is the reason why I spent so much time in Halloween Town.
Kingdom Hearts - Dearly Beloved by Yoko Shimomura It's a slow song, but it's just so beautiful.
Kingdom Hearts - Simple and Clean by Utada Hikaru Orchestral Version The original is a beautiful song, but the orchestral version sends shivers down my spine every time I listen to it.

Dynasty Warriors 8 - Scrolls by (Masato Koike, Sasaki Masayoshi, Masako Otsuka, Yasuhiro Misawa, and/or Kenji Nakajo. Couldn't tell you which) This song feels odd because it doesn't feel like it belongs in Dynasty Warriors. I actually thought it was a Kingdom Hearts OST that Koei ended up using somehow

Beyond Earth's soundtrack is super under-rated.

Stellaris's... might be over rated? Still quite good:

Also:

Someone mentioned wipeout stuff, that's great too. I'd also recommend a KOTOR song or 2, but I'm too lazy to dig them up atm...

Where to begin, I guess I'll start with a couple of new releases, 2 small games called Prey (2017) and Mirrors Edge Catalyst.

Without even thinking about it, I can come up with two.

and

It was this monster's design and soundtrack that turned this non-Souls player into a Bloodborne player.
No such luck with the actual Souls series though but that's fine.

These songs, when you're alone, I swear, they build their own worlds and atmosphere-ize any room you're in.

Civilization gets some good music, especially if it's Christopher Tin we're talking about:

There's a lot to be said for the SoulsBorne soundtracks as well.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned any Sonic music yet
The Blue Blur might not always be on point gameplay-wise, but his soundtracks are usually strong ('cept Chronicles, and the Boom games)

The Metal Gear Solid series is fulll of epic music.

One of dozens of examples that imbibes a well-realized theme of the main character is from MGS4:
Old Snake

The best game music sets the stage well for what's happening on screen, and few games do this better than the God of War series.

God of War 3 opening and gameplay

Bloodborne also excels at this, but rather than show gameplay of one of the boss battles, here is a video of the orchestra actually performing the music to it-

Bloodborne: Cleric Beast

I also like the Horizon: Zero Dawn title theme. At once it's kind of somber, introspective and possibly even a bit hopeful sounding

there may be more but these are some of the best OST i have ever seen.

Best two on there; almost forgot about how good Max Payne's theme is.

I also skipped through the Mafia one and ended up right at this one [https://youtu.be/eA8C9SXISHQ?list=RDeA8C9SXISHQ&t=1365]which I remember even though I haven't played the game in almost 10 years. It has that classic prohibition era feel to it that helped make the game so authentic.
