Man you must be trolling, people need to fuck with the government or they will just think they can fuck us over and not get fucked back.
The government should be afraid of us not the other way around.
Then who the hell is going to keep you guys in check then?
I'm not saying that we should have no government but we need to keep them in check.
That's precisely what you are asking for.

A populace that fears government action is easy to police and keep under control so that we don't have chaotic elements like murder and DDoS attacks.
That's not what I'm talking about, we need to people to rebel against the government but in a reasonable way unless the government becomes fascist. We need a government that respects peoples rights. This would never have happened if they didn't go after assange, the government shouldn't hide shit from us and when someone tries to bring to light they silence them and make an example out of them, are you saying they should? Fuck that! Sure Anonymous could have just protested but I still admire the fact that they did something about it. Not like most people who kiss the governments ass like you.
And I don't kiss freedom's ass like you do.

What I don't understand is that the general public values privacy so much. But then when the Government wants privacy too, they receive fire for such a thing.

If anything, the Government needs privacy more than the public does. The public is a dangerous and unruly bunch. Giving them the freedom to hide their intentions only invites them to commit crimes. Meanwhile, the Government NEEDS their privacy because it affects their public relations and relations with other countries. Which has the potential to start wars or riots if some things are brought to the light.
The peoples interest should always exceed a states interest. The state is exists to *serve* the people. How can the people know the state is representing them the way they want if the state can hide things?

All the FBI is doing is cleansing the gene pool of hackers so that only the best hackers remain. They're only helping Anonymous.

Seriously, don't the FBI have anything better to do? There are child molesters, rapist and murderers out there and all you want to focus on is 40 harmless hackers. What about the people who DDOS'd Wikileaks? Why aren't you going after them?

If anyone wants to find me, I'll be in the angry dome.
Well, it turns out murder is not usually a federal crime. Rape is not a federal crime, and child molestation is not a federal crime unless you transport the kid across state lines... so... nope, looks like they ran out of other things to do first. But if you'd like, you could always rob a bank or kidnap someone and make an FBI Special Agent's day by giving him something to do. :p

This is stupid and unfortunate. The FBI doesn't seriously think they can stop a world wide organization of pissed of internet peoples, and if they do they need some holes drilled into their head to relieve the hot air.

People dislike something, they actively fight to change things for what they believe in, and are punished for it. The fact that this is illegal is absurd, it is almost by definition, a peaceful protest. Only problem is that there aren't any water cannons for the internet...yet.

Its so funny reading this thread and seeing all the why arent they doing other stuff responses. You guys do know that like most law enforcement organizations the FBI have divisions who focus on certain crimes excusively right? In this case the FBI cyber crimal division busted these guys, its not like the FBI let a bunch of terrorists inflitrate while they were busy chasing these kids and if it makes you feel any better some of these kids will more than likely be picked up by the FBI to work in said Cyber criminal division to hunt other hackers.

Nice to see the FBI and Scotland Yard distributing their resources onto such trivial matters rather than actually catching real criminals.

...

Although that said they might just be doing it to make an example out of them?
Well, to be fair they were dumb enough to fuck with the money, which is one of the best ways to become "real criminals" and now, surprise, they are being hunted and treated like "real criminals". Funny how that works out.

You say that like they care. If there is any entity in the universe more dispassionate than Anonymous claims to be, it's a bureaucracy. Slow moving and inevitable as the fucking dawn. They will not tire, they will not get bored, they will not be stopped, and they will not examine J Edgar Hoover's underwear drawer, they are The FBI. Enjoy.

I guess those 40 anonymous members didn't know how to triforce. Otherwise, they wouldn't have got into this situation.

OT: Also, how do they know that the anonymous members are not using a botnet or a "zombie Computers/compromised computers" (Search it up) in order to do a DDoS? For all you know, they could be going after people who have no idea on what's going on. But then again, script kiddies do tend to not cover their tracks very well, if at all.

To be fair it's not like the proxies they're championing are a really effective way to conceal where you are. It's a way to bypass an outgoing filter, but it doesn't really hide who you are from anyone with any actual training in network security, and that was never the intent behind the technology.

Anonymity on the internet is like an honest politician, it's an illusion that is only believed to exist under very simplistic modeling of the system as a whole.

Sorry, I missed this first time round. And, nope, not happening. First these aren't the next generation's Kevin Mitnick, these are script kiddies, second a felony conviction will prevent you from getting a job with the FBI... or any governmental job... or any decent job, really... So, no, even if they were real hackers, which they aren't, they're going to spend the rest of their lives screwed over for this.

A felony conviction for things like... oh, I don't know... cyber-terrorism? This will prevent you from getting a job with your local Starbucks and it will also prevent you from voting. No, these guys are monumentally fucked.
