And you want them to follow through while they have REAL crime to stop? It's like buying a donut to play Frisbee. You are missing the point!
God, it was a joke. It would have been funny to see on the FBI wiki page.
I know it was a joke, and that's why i said you miss the point. Can we allowed such petty thing going on when it's your highest authority does stupid thing like that? You shouldn't consider it like a lame Scooby doo pun, but more seriously. After all, you are paying their salary so they keep your ass safe.

I think I understand where the FBI is coming from, they don't want anyone just printing out high quality seals and stamping it on this and that. They have a tough enough job as it is, without anything making it more complicated. I mean, why does Wikipedia need a 2000x2000 print of this logo? Why can't they just stick with the same 600x600 .gif that other (government) sites use, which seems to be just fine?

This just in: the FBI logo contains vital military intelligence. The general public must not be allowed to view it. Gentlemen, we have less than seventy-two hours. You are weapons-free.

Does the FBI have nothing better to do than to yell at a information organization for such a ridiculous infraction? It's not exactly hard to find their logo on the internet and it's a joke to think they can police it since ...well it's the internet.

The major irony here is that the FBI is opposed to having their seal on Wikipedia, but they're willing to stamp it on t-shirts, ball caps, key chains and hoodies which they sail daily in downtown Washington?... *shakes head* That's called being a bit of a hypocrite...

I could only make it through a single page of 'OMG WTF FBI SUX,' replies, so I apologize if someone said this already

The issue is the detail of the images hosted. A 2600x2000 image of the FBI logo would enable one to create exact replicas of an FBI badge. To counter a slightly more retarded first page post, if you google image search "fbi logo" half the results are retarded, but they're all low to extremely low resolution.

Also, if I remember correctly, the FBI also dictated an allowable level of authenticity with the props used in the x-files and any other movie that features FBI agents.

So... wikipedia is actually the asshole in this situation.

Really? How silly can the FBI be? I thought they were quite serious folks.

Haven't they got better things to do?
They have better things to do, but finding actual criminals who are breaking the law is hard work. Its easier just to mess with information resources on the internet.

OT:

This is ridiculous. As an American, I am frankly disgusted by my government's use of resources in this manner.

I tried to see the FBI's veiwpoint on this, but apparently I don't have crazy enough glasses to look through. Seriously, how petty do you have to be to do something like this?

If Obama is looking to make a few deficit saving cuts the it looks like the FBI have just put up a massive flag saying "WE HAVE TOO MUCH FREE TIME ON OUR HANDS!"

But this whole thing is so very stupid, and this is the internet.
