the "cornered animal" analogy is nice OP, they (America/Americans) are a bunch of children thrown into the world with a nuclear stockpile.
You're right, none of us are capable of intelligent thought whatsoever. In fact the only proper sentance I'm able to piece together is the one I just previously typed and this one explaining it.

I flew remember going from DC to New Mexico with some friends and they let one of my friends on with matches and another on with flammable sunscreen. So I don't hate it here or anything, but all the security is ridiculous and unnecessary .

OT: So you fear the government, then? I can kind of see that, as we've got a bit too much corruption and idiotic laws. Far too much idiocy, but it's still a good place to live. I guess the majority of us here are Xenophobic and the majority, unfortunately, has a very influential voice.
I think it's more the wrong being done for what they see as the right reasons.

They're pretty similar in England to be honest, we have approximately 1% of the worlds population but 20% of its CCTV cameras. they're bringing in more and more idiotic security procedures in airports that don't actually work and wouldn't have detected people like the syringe bomber, all in the name of security.

If I was to spend any length of time actually in America, I would probably find it no different to England. It's the perception of fear that runs the world these days and unfortunately my fear is not centred on terrorism, but oppressive security, which sadly America seems to have become the poster child for.

That's Japan. We're more like Cracked.com, or Rotten back in the day.

America does indeed scare the hell out of me. I get the feeling the Worlds due for a pretty massive shake up in the next 30 years or so and America's going to be at the centre of it, either oil running low or massive debts to China collapsing will probably be the kicker.

Plus you know, the republicans going into "crazed bible basher" mode and they WILL get back in to power at some point...

[note: I don't hate the Republican party, I just don't like where they've been going for the past decade or so.]

Fear? No, you're misreading it, Captain Reynolds. This is Simon Tam with an angry face. The rest of the world isn't afraid of us. They were afraid of Hitler, of Stalin. They hate America as they have always hated America.

"This land is our land." - Spain, France, and Native Americans (during colonial times and up).

"How dare they go independent!" - Great Britain, sparking the Revolutionary War.

"Imperialist Dogs!" - Japan, WWII.

"Imperialist Swine!" - Germany, also in WWII.

Actually, WWI too, for that god-awful treaty that led to WWII.

"We must keep up with them at all costs, before they can overwhelm our seat of strength." - Russia during the Cold War.

"Suck it, GIJOE!" - Vietcong in Vietnam.

"You ever had one of those wars where everything goes wrong?" - Alan Alda, in MASH, talking about Korea.

"What the fuck you doing here?! We don't even HAVE any WMDs, you bastard! Afghanistan is THAT WAY, stupid!" - Iraq!

"Well, what'd you expect, genius? Of course they're hiding! You think you're fighting a standing army? 'War on Terror'...BAH!" - Afghanistan!

"This is OUR country. We do whatever the hell we want with nuclear power. Now, get going already!" - Iran!

No no no... It is not fear that drives other nations throughout history, most of the time. They're pissed. The U.S. is wearing out its international welcome. Is there a single thing, a single place we have not stamped our little boots on? Can't think of any.

Maybe I watched too many Michael Moore flicks, but I really agree with you. Though it's not just America, the age of stupid is growing everywhere (electrolytes). No, I don't dislike Americans, I pity them for their views, media and government.

The Republicans have been bad news ever since they decided to woo the Moral Majority, the Christian lobbying group. Reagan was the first of the new Republicans. The party used to stand for individual freedom, economic and social. People forget that Eisenhower, a Republican, started civil rights. The Democrats, who were strong in the south, used a few idiot Republicans to paint the whole party as racist, and the Republicans didn't know what to do until they latched onto religion. People love to kick Nixon around, but he never got away with a tenth of what Bush did. And Nixon had arguably better motives.

I think we're kind of like a lost child right now. We expect everyone to be our friends but sometimes we treat other countries badly. We're kind of in a transition from a very conservative government to a liberal one so this is a really rough period.

I think we take and take and take without really worrying about what's going to happen when we can't take anymore. We're a country in "the now" without much thought for the future.

And THAT, my friends across the sea, is what we ALL should be afraid of. I feel like we're very unstable as a nation and what's going to be the straw that breaks the camel's back? I mean I don't HATE America by any means, but I can't wait to get out of here. I don't know if it's better anywhere else, but I'm really tired of stupid debates and no preparation for the future.

Before I start I just want it known I don't hate America at all, I absolutely loved it when I visited New Orleans the year before Katrina.

Unfortunately I've started to become somewhat fearful of the way America is going (as portrayed in the media) I'm not frightened of America attacking my country (England) but I do worry that if I ever went back again I would be in danger of being hurt, arrested or killed by Americas "security procedures" I admit it's completely irrational and I sincerely hope I'm the only one that feels this way.

It seems to me that America has become so scared of terrorists and anything "anti-American" that they've become like a cornered animal.

Do others fear America? not because they are dangerous in a premeditated way but because America will lash out in a sense of fear?

For all I know the real America isn't even vaguely like this but this seems to be the most predominant facet I personally see in the media.

I truly hope Americans can see I'm not attacking them, more that I want to know that the place is still cool.
Dude, what channel are you watching? America gets a bad rep because of the few bad apples. You know, the right wing Nut Jobs i.e. Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin, the GOP. The left wing extremists are just as bad, if not worse. Then there is FOX NEWS. Full of BS aimed at furthering the goals of the Republicans. Here's a nice playlist on Youtube.

Also at fault, Christian extremist. Why do people view us as religious ass-hats? Because a certain part of the Middle States has an very loud voice that drowns out reason.

Let me sum it up with, Americans are normal. WE ARE NOT what we are portrayed as on TV. We are the same as any Brit or Cheese-Eating-Surrender-monkey, I mean Frenchie. Dammit! I mean French-Man. People won't hat you here because you're a foreigner. If people do, remind them their ancestors are immigrants too. What we hate in the US is jack asses. Trust me, if you don't respect others, you will be shunned.

I honestly don't think America should be feared. It should be the people IN America who should be feared. Now I know this seems like bashing but I am an American and I see first hand the level of stupid going around. The expression "people are scared of what they don't understand" suits Americans quite nicely. America being the people, the not understood part being the rest of the world.

And plus, when you get to the point where a guy says(roughly): "We know exactly where Baghdad is, its in the North, South, East, and probably in the West." Something is wrong.

In reference to the airports, American security procedures are alomst offensively lax. We (the British) had to step up our security for American bound flights. They have not afforded us the same courtesy. It seems that they believe we are a danger to them, but obviously there are no dangerous people in America.

America is too complex of a place, with too complex of a history to be accurately summarized in one post. Suffice to say though, that in the heart of nearly every American is nothing but good intentions. We're not evil, we really don't want to take over the world, we just want to live in freedom. Now the American government and media on the other hand is basically fucked six ways to sunday and is more often then not the cause of the perceived "evilness" of America. But thats cause politicians suck, and are narcissistic pricks with a god complex.

New Jersey, North East. I've traveled around the country though. I know how different communities are. Some are secular, some are religious, but most are normal.

Actually I was having a conversation with a friend about this not long ago and we both came to the conclusion that we're surprised America hasn't started some form of sanctions against Britain as a lot of the bombers that have recently been caught are British citizens.

That was describing the likely positions of insurgent forces around Baghdad, I believe. Just another way of saying "We don't know where the hell they are."

Remember that a bashing of a government is not a bashing of the people, guys. When most people say they hate a country, they don't mean every single fucking person inside it, they mean the broad image it presents itself as, and it's foreign policy. I can say that America was stupid to go into Iraq but that isn't the same as saying "All Americans Are Stupid.".
