Fear of water in games

Not a fear myself, but it seems almost every videogame character does. Enough so they never learned to swim and flail around in knee deep water like it's acid, eventually drowning.

Assassin's Creed was horrible for this... the amount of times I had to reload because of it!

Some giant, scaled, food deprived, tentacle-y monster is always lurking in deep, dark water. I've learned to fear it.

They must infest all waters more then knee deep in all games. I can't think of any other reason for all main characters of all games to have such a paralyzing fear of water they drown in water that isn't even as deep as what most people use for a bath.

I imagine showers don't go over very well in video game worlds.

I reckon shadow of the collosus. To be stuck in the water when that f'ing giant bird was coming at you or having to get in the deep water with those other things *shiver*

Mine started with that Giant lipped fish from Yoshi's Island, Increased with the lurker shark in Jak and daxter. Then Zelda cemented it with the egg fetch quest in MM and everything in Windwaker.

my real life fear of larger bodies of water doesn't help this gaming fear either.

I only hate swimming in games where i know theres some big fish out to get me. It's horrible falling in and then scrambling to get to land before the super fast giant fish of death sneaks up and kills you.

Guh. I hated that RE4 boss. Plus, I think I know what it was that caused my particular fear.

well, in a lot of games water has nothing in it near shore(Wind waker), or you automatically die in it(halo).

From what I remember in Halo you just didn't die whenever you went underwater and all it did was fog up your vision quite a bit.

If you go out too far, this GIANT thing will appear out of nowhere and eat you.

I dont fear the water, but it does render you rather vulnerable.
The best option is to not fear death - Then everything becomes much easier.

only in games, where the giant ass thing under the water can and will kill you, but you have to go through anyway...

I find that I always try to avoid swimming in water (especially if i tread on top and cant see below) in games. I guess I'm afraid that I wont see the enemy or I will be defenseless. I know its a bit irrational but I cant shake it.
Does anyone else have a fear of water in videogames?

I freakin' HATE swimming/underwater stuff in videogames. The bathroom in Toy Story 2 and the water temple in OoT are some of my least favorite water parts ever T_T

Crysis. Water travel is the absolute best way to move around. Super speed, submerge yourself, hold shift, win. Hit Z before you enter the water and you'll lie down when you hit a shallow area/bank, meaning you can still move at super pace while crawling. Also, enemies barely ever see you in the water.

Man, I had this fear for a lot of games for a long time, just because of Jak and Daxter...
