The TV advert was banned in the states and the UK/Scottish would do well to do the same. I believe in free speech, but you got to have facts to back it up.
PETA are defending the billboard by claiming that they are tackling the city's childhood obesity problem.
I believe that NOT feeding your children meat would be closer to child abuse, and they are clearly hiding behind the obesity problem to 'save' their precious animals.
If you want to fatten up a cow, what do you feed it?
LOTS AND LOTS OF GRAIN
Obesity is not caused by overconsumption of meat. It's caused (predominantly) by overconsumption of bad carbohydrates, like bleached flour and refined sugars.
Granted, eating too much meat (red meat, in particular) can cause other health problems, and you can't haz cheeseburger without a bun, but that's not the point. The point is, PETA is purposefully misconstruing the facts to promote their agenda.
Come on PETA, there's got to be a better way to reduce cruelty to animals besides promoting veganism. How about you encourage people to eat LESS meat and animal products, and when they do, eat less fast food and buy meat and animal products that aren't raised in industrialized farms? That would address their biggest grievances about cruelty against livestock, and result in a much healthier diet for most people.
Oh wait, that would be smart, and would require a reasonable compromise on PETA's part. I hate to use the term 'bleeding-heart liberal hippie douchebags', but I think it's probably the best way to describe PETA's leadership based upon what I've seen from them so far.
And need I remind you that species like sheep, cows, and chickens have been so thoroughly domesticated that there is a good probability that they would go extinct if we didn't raise them for food? I guess that's also a form of animal cruelty, but it's too late to do anything about it now.
