The problem is Peta aren't targeting fast food or unhealthy eating, which would be helpful, they're targeting all meat products ever, it's a stupid publicity stunt that even they know won't change a thing or help the environment, but they do it because it gets them publicity. When newspapers take up the headlines, and report on it like the Escapist is, Peta just gets more publicity, and because they are well known they get more money through donations. Heck, my favourite band, 'Boston', support and donate to Peta. And I hate that, they are soiling the pureness and innocence of Boston. Stop it Peta you monsters! LEAVE BOSTON ALONE!

PETA kills more animals than most kennels and pet establishments, you know.
..Care to explain how?
In my state PETA pushed to have the Grey Hound dog tracks shut down saying that it would "save" the animals and they would go to good homes. Small problem with that. No one wanted the grey hounds and they were all euthanized. Through there shut down of a lot of places/boycotts it has actually become more cost effective to just kill the animals than to keep them alive until they get adopted. PETA LEADS to more animal deaths not necessarily doing it themselves.

I love that the picture of a supposedly obese child is hilariously photoshopped.

PETA's good for a laugh. Let 'em go. Free speech does take priority, anyway. Besides, it's not like anyone actually takes them seriously.

I could understand the reasoning behind fighting obesity by cutting down on RED meat, as other meats such as turkey and chicken have more protein and less fat, but cutting out meat altogether is something I am against. Changing your diet, while it will help, won't solve child obesity or obesity in general. It has to be coupled with exercise. And for kids, that motivation often comes from and should come THE PARENTS.

My parents made sure I got outside a little bit each day (unless the weather was absolutely terrible) instead of staying inside to play video games or watch TV. And I'm glad they did.

So giving children the protien they need to build strong bodies is child abuse...right. Personally I'd love to be a vegetarian becuase I love animals but since I get aneamic that just isn't going to happen really. I'd just get too sick.

Teaching children that processed grain products are good for them and that consuming fats is what makes people fat... that's child abuse.

You don?t have to be a genius to work out which organisation claims that allowing your child to eat meat is child abuse. You probably thought of them as soon as you read the topic's subject.

Correct! It's PETA!

I know we could make a library of all the posts that we have on PETA, but I was rather bemused when I read about them in a Scottish newspaper, I generally did not know that they had an influence in the UK (especially not Scotland).

In Edinburgh, PETA put up a billboard claiming that feeding your child meat is abuse...

Article: http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/health-news/2011/04/02/outrage-over-animal-rights-group-s-meat-is-child-abuse-billboard-86908-23032707/
This might sound familiar to you...Imagine my surprise when I searched for this topic and I did find a similar post - from 3 years ago:

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.85741-Banned-PETA-Commercial?page=1
- Same thing but as a TV Advert.

(I tried to find it on YouTube but I couldn't, if you find it anywhere a link would be much appreciated)

The TV advert was banned in the states and the UK/Scottish would do well to do the same. I believe in free speech, but you got to have facts to back it up.

PETA are defending the billboard by claiming that they are tackling the city's childhood obesity problem.

I believe that NOT feeding your children meat would be closer to child abuse, and they are clearly hiding behind the obesity problem to 'save' their precious animals.

What do you think on the whole matter? Should it be taken down, or do you free speech should take priority here?

P.S Apologises if this has been discussed and I was just too lazy to look hard enough.
Not feeding your child meat would be closer to child abuse? How so? Seems like most of the latest data available from top scientists and nutritionists would support what PETA is saying; though I will admit that I think PETA is a bit over the top.

Here's some "facts" to back it up:

http://www.eatright.org/About/Content.aspx?id=8357

http://www.pcrm.org/health/veginfo/veg_diets_for_children.html

I mean, the American Dietetic Association and the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine are pretty well respected organizations that tend to know more about nutrition than, say, the average family with obese children.

I see some of my friends with kids feed their children God-awful things, allow them to subsist on a diet of mainly candy, and then encourage already overweight children to "clean their plate" - maybe we need a little more common sense and vegetables and a bit less meat and candy.

Just sayin'

There is absolutely NO excuse for the inhumane treatment of animals.

But in no way does that mean I'm going to give up eating their tasty, tasty flesh.

As Ron White once said..."I did not climb to the top of the food chain, to eat carrots."

Vegan with nutrition problems?

http://www.nursingdegree.net/blog/19/57-health-benefits-of-going-vegan/

And -

Vegetarians live longer. Repeated studies have shown that not only do vegetarian increase their life expectancy, but also reduce the likelihood of an early death. This is illustrated by a study at the University of Vienna, showing that vegetarianism in men reduced the risk of early death by 50 percent and in women by 30 percent.

Herpaderp, indeed.

How many "vegans with nutrition problems" do you, personally, know - by the way?

Good...god...I hate PETA! Seriously, they need to learn that they do no have the right to tell me what I can and can't eat or that I'm any less of a person because of my carnivorous nature. These guys can all go die of protein deficiency /rant (sorry if that was more venomous than usual, but these guys piss me off to almost the same extent as the WBC)

How did I know this was going to be PETA?

They're not really worth anyone's attention to be honest. Just ignore them and eventually they'll shut up. I hope.

Actually, funnily enough, PETA doesn't approve of pets either.

You could probably argue that this should not be covered by free speech because it is dangerous.
I say this not because its impossible to raise a child without eating meat, but there is a fair amount of work involved in ensuring that your child is getting the proper nutrients from sources other than meat. Anyone that changes the way they feed their child based on a billboard is unlikely to take the time to research the nutritional needs of their child.

i know how you feel, i cant understand how can they say eating meat is bad when we know animals do it all the time, after all if you put a lion and a PETA active member in a cage, guess what, the lion is not going to accept the supplies of "meat free" products...

actually, i would like to see a lion and a PETA member locked in a cage :3
