So last weekend in my nearest big ish town (I live in the middle of no-where) some bloke went up into the town hall tower to adjust the clock, as he does every week. At the top of the tower he found a man who had hung himself using a beam and the trapdoor. As if the shock of seeing this wasn't bad enough, the poor bloke tripped, and fell through the trapdoor that the dead guy had used to top himself, landing on the floor at the bottom of the tower with broken legs and several broken ribs.

Pretty unlucky methinks.

So I ask, what's the most unlucky thing that you've ever heard of or experienced?

(and sorry about the title, I really am that uncreative)

Hmmm.... the unluckiest? I'm not that unlucky, but when I was six I fell off a playground and smacked the back of my head on the ground, breaking the skin open. I only had to get three stitches, but still.

It's OK, I've seen much worse titles. I thought it was all right at least.

This is relevant: http://www.cracked.com/article_17416_7-most-bizarrely-unlucky-people-who-ever-lived.html

#1 is both the most unlucky and the luckiest combined.

Well this is a mix of bad and very good luck. When I was small I tripped holding a sparkler at a party, it went into my eye, but happened to skim the eyeball and just make a nice graze along it. I was millimetres from losing my eye o_O

So yeah, bit of both there really, but I'm really talented when it comes to close call accidents.

The unluckiest thing I've heard of aside from the stories on that cracked list a couple posts above me, has to be that lady that got killed by a stingray that jumped onto her boat, and hit her in the head causing her to die on impact.

I made a quick friendly joke about one of my sergeants, too bad he was mere feet behind me. I found myself doing a lot of extra PT that week. I actually got out of that lucky. And they say "Always keep your head on a swivel."

If I was those people, I just wouldn't go on holiday anymore. It would be for the best...

My entire life is one huge series of unlucky events.

I'm only exaggerating a little bit.

EDIT: Well, this one time, I broke this kid's wrists.
I got detention for like a month.
That really sucked, for me.
You know?
Yeah, I'm sure the detention was just bad luck on your part, nothing to do with sadism at all... :p

Wait? detention? If that happened at my school you would probably have been hung, drawn and quartered. But then my area is a little backwards...

How the hell did that happen?

I say nuke the stingrays. They're JUMPING INTO BOATS. First, they swim up and stab our silly crocodile-wrangling men, now they're jumping onto boats to headshot our middle-aged women? This is TOO MUCH. This has got to be some kind of movie.

Not sure what it would be, because I see why all of my actions ended badly so I don't really call them luck. However, I did stub my toe and cause a pretty big hang nail recently.

I know the most unlucky person in the world.
He is not careless (usually) and in the past 12 months has:
- Lost his long term girlfriend to an illness
- Didn't do the Lottery for 2 months (due to sick girlfriend) and one week all but one of his numbers came up (He had done the lottery for a long time)
- Broken each arm
- Broken a leg
- Broken wrist
- Crashed 3 vehicles
- Got tricked into doing mulitple things that got him into trouble
- Some other things I've probsbly forgotten

Its pretty unbelieveable and very tragic.

That must have been a difficult time for you... You have my sympathy.

Why thank you. It's always nice to have the support of strangers.

If I remember correctly, I was playing Four Corners with a large crowd. A friend of mine was too close behind me and I jerked my head back resulting in a painful headbutt. Her tooth was knocked out and was lodged in the back of my head. Thankfully the tooth easily came out and I didn't need stitches.
Still you don't hear injuries like that often.
