Wath ever you do, do not buy the new Nightwish album. It will depress you even more :(
The songs may not be uplifting, but it is an amazing album nonetheless.

OT: I listen to predominately metal music, so I don't know many artists of the alternative genre other than Smashing Pumpkins or The Cure, but I'll throw a recommendation out there for some Gorillaz. They're music always puts me in a better mood. Especially Dare, 19/2000 (regular is okay, but the Soulchild remix is better IMO), and Feel Good Inc.

Otherweres by Lake of Tears is a good song, listening to which you can let your worries fade a away "it can't rain all the time".
Simply for the giggles, something One himself recently discovered. Tom Lehrer, brilliant musician and comic.

I hate how much I love that song. It's so outrageously bad and they ham up the video so much... but it's so catchy ^_^

Here's a couple:
Because nothing cheers you up like ska.

Well except for big band performances maybe:

Or sweet-ass disco:

But if you feel like winding down instead of up, there's always stuff like this:

Also, 80's classics for increased cheesiness, awesome and sing-along-ness:
Really, nothing cures a downer period for me than screaming along with one of those goldies.

And last but not least:
Because

Dunno much about your suggested bands, but here are some songs that never, ever fail to make me feel happy.

The top one especially is the most adorably cute songs I've ever heard.

There is indeed no such thing as too much muse... but are you sure "Stockholm Syndrone" and "MK Ultra" are the best anti-depression tools?

With your choice of bands, I suggest White Lies. Their first album has got some great tracks, I'd try 'To Lose My Life' if I were you

Red House Painters' 1993 self-titled album, known as Rollercoaster (due to the sepia picture of a, er, rollercoaster on the front). Awesome, awesome, awesome. And "Katy Song" from that album is life-changingly great.

If you are into metal with a pirate influence look up Alestorm on Youtube. The Sunken Norwegian and Pirate Song are real uplifters for me.

If you like epic music, I suggest Two Steps from Hell.
Actually, everyone should listen to Two Steps from Hell.

This will defiantly make you smile.

Mike Patton doing his silly Ska Rock music as Mr Bungle.

I might as well throw in his Trip-hop group as well, Lovage, which is just as good.

One warning though, it's NSFW!
