I've often thought of the difference between Disturbed's original bassist, Fuzz, and his replacement, John Moyer.

For those of you who like Disturbed's music, but don't necessarily follow the band's history, Fuzz (whose real name I don't actually know) was their bass guitar player when they played small venues, all the way through them getting a record deal and up to the Believe Album. Somewhere between the releasing of the Believe album, and the 10,000 fists album, they let Fuzz go because he and lead singer David Draiman couldn't stop fighting, and it threatened to break up the band. They held open auditions, John Moyer got the part and has been with them ever since.

The question is, which bassist is better? There are marked differences in style, and the style of music that Disturbed plays, in general, has changed a lot in subsequent years. So, in your personal opinion, who is better at playing bass guitar, Fuzz or John Moyer, and who has been better for the band?

NOTE: I realise that not everyone is a Disturbed fan. The title takes care of that. I don't want any trolling, flaming, or insulting here, so if you are not a Disturbed fan, just don't post on this thread. If I see any flaming about "Disturbed sucks" or anything that tries to incense people who are here to contribute to the conversation, I will report you and you will be banned.

Now that the OP is out of the way, my own opinion is that John Moyer, on the whole, is better. This is actually a difficult one to define for me, because some of Fuzz's songs I like better (most notable to me are such songs as Voices, The Game, Stupify, Down With The Sickness, Believe, Remember). On the other hand, some of Moyer's songs are some of Disturbed's best (examples include The Night, Indestructible, Asylum, Serpentine, Stricken, Overburdened). For a long time, it was hard for me to like, but I have decided in general I like John Moyer better.

I should note that I see four votes on the poll, but no posts. Don't vote if you have nothing to say, everyone should elaborate on what they believe are the differences between the two, and why they chose as they did.

I think what they are doing right now is good, I liked 10k fists but the stuff they do now is good too. I mean, look at Asylum or Never Again, awesome for sure!

Lastly, should you really care with -minor- changes, I mean its not like they have changed the main singer. The main singer's voice is amazing.

Disturbed still rocks, and always will :D

I don't think I'm feeling your opinion here, could you be more specific?

Haven't listened to any rock in a while, but listening to some newer stuff on youtube I must say I prefer the old guy, whatever his name was

Mister Caine, you have been reported. Enjoy being banned, creep. The OP clearly states no trolling or flaming.

I never noticed a significant change in Disturbed's sound. That being said, Ten Thousand Fists is easily their best album.

Alright, so I'd never heard of disturbed, but after listening to a few of their songs after seeing this thread, I do beleive they've won themselves a new fan. And... I have to say I like John Moyer more. Theire music seems to improve when he joins. Of course, I'm no expert, but hey, every opinion counts, right? Right? No?

I think Dave Draiman has a great voice but man does he need a better band to utilize it in. The random incoherent Zulu warcries and random "Uh uh" noises don't do his talents any justice.

Even then, he can be slightly blamed for making bands like Opeth, Dark Tranquility, Therion, Blind Guardian, Nile, Iced Earth, Nevermore, and so...not as acceptable over brainwashing the ignorant, cookie cutter, radio-friendly kids into thinking they know what metal is. Not saying they are untalented as a whole...just that they never utlized their sound and compositions correctly.

Still thought, I have a tremendous amount of respect for the man. I disagree with some his more personal issues and he tried to shoehorn his Talmudic beliefs into everything, but for what it's worth he's an upstanding citizen who knows how to act in the spotlight of metal.

Lol, someone boarded the Troll Train

OP: Personally, I like Fuzz better, but then again I wouldn't consider myself a huge fan of Disturbed... I DO like them, but I would be lying if I said I loved them...

I saw Moyer live, and he seemed to be enjoying himself up there on stage. I don't even know what the original bassist looked like, and I've followed Disturbed ever since The Sickness.

That. Is absolutely. AWESOME. I helped make a Disturbed fan. I feel pretty good about that.

Fuzz was more like a typical bass player of an older band, he was tall, kinda big (not fat, but he was the biggest member of Disturbed when he was in it, more muscular), long dark hair. I agree about moyer seeming like he enjoys himself, he really gets into his performance.

If you wanna see what Fuzz looked like, he's in the Stupefy, Down With The Sickness, Prayer, Remember, and Voices videos.

Hard to say... it's a 50/50 split for me so, no vote.

I enjoy what the band was and is. I'm glad they slowly change because I tend to get sick of albums that get released with the same tone and direction after the third or fourth one.

Note: I don't follow the band closely so I didn't know the bassist changed. I'm just commenting about the sound and tone of the music in general.

Tangent thought: I'd probably hate them if they took the same road as Our Lady Piece... man, that band used to be good...

Oh yeah? Well I helped get that Caine guy banned....yeah your victory is better.

OT: Ok I saw him. But still, what does it say that I didn't noticed him until now?

Not to mention Moyer gave me one of my best concert photos.

Awesome Pic. What song were they performing when u took that?

Also, as to what it means that you've never seen him before, just that you weren't payin that close attention. I've followed them since Believe Album, and didn't notice a change until I started checkin out stuff about their history online, right around Indestructible album. That's when I started watching videos more closely to see the difference.
