Hmmm...I'm not really the person who's opinion you want due to my lack of lady bits but now I'm here and I feel obliged to say something...

Um... I, for reasons that will remain un told, had to go into a shop to buy boxers on short notice as I had no access to under garments at the time. Anyway, grabbed the first 3-pack I could find, as well as some random shit so I wasn't just buying pants and looked weird. In retrospect, I wish I hadn't bothered buying a handful of other shit because amoung all the stuff I randomly picked up as to not seem weird I picked up tights... I got an odd look from the check out girl but I couldn't bring myself to admit I only accidentally picked them up so I took them away with me... Turned out that the boxers were too tight but the tights were a good fit...

I was in hospital the next day... That's not related...

(it's going to get a bit wordy and back-story-y here, so bare with me)

SNIP
This thread is really cool. As a guy with freakishly long arms, it's kind of a hassle to find shirts that fit, so much so that I cannot wear 'sport' sizes that come only in M, L and XL. So I have to wear button down shirts all the time. I have a collar size of 17 and sleeves at 36/37. Incidentally I think that womens' fashion is entirely fucked up. Size 000, REALLY? Come on, you KNOW those sizes are skewed and must at least partially contribute to distorted self image problems.

It's oddly comforting to know that there are so many people out there that have a hard time finding clothing too.

There's hope though. Technology is here to help. Maybe one day we'll all have one of these nearby. Go, Bodymetrics [http://www.bodymetrics.com/], GO!

This thread totally falcon punched my secret transsexual fantasies.
As a guy everything seems so easy and I take it all for granted.

Same here... and I've never even had a girlfriend... man, the things sisters can teach you...

I've never asked my mom/sister about underwear shopping (guess why!), but I find underwear shopping to be really annoying for me. The underwear is always packed with male models on the label, and the cut and size that fits me best is ALWAYS the pack with the male model with the most prominent (and usually borderline obscene) junk, and cashiers KEEP COMMENTING, which tends to make me blush (I'm modest, OK?), so I always look like a total asshat when I buy it.

And then I'll get home and find out it's too small, because I've grown again.

When Mom got me underwear for Christmas this year that turned out to fit and didn't even have a model on it, I was happier than a whole colony of clams.

I take it you're like me... tall & skinny... worst body type for buying a good pair of practical jeans.
I have similar troubles being "fairly tall and wide". I need a 38" inseam and a 40" waist, which is too big for department stores, but too small for the Big & Tall stores.

Purgatory, I tell you.

I had to pick some up for my wife a few years back because she had to work and her bra's had got a bit small (she had a boost from being pregnant at the time).

I know fuck all about bra sizes.

Asked the nice lass at the counter who asked me what size I was looking for and did the ever so helpful holding cupped hands in front of my chest and saying "about that big".
Dude, that's a nightmare. I work in an Ann Summers and the amount of guys who come in and think "aw yeah, gonna get my wife/girlfriendsome sexy lingerie" and then expect me to automatically know her size without ever seeing her.

Most of the time, I can take a pretty good guess from the "about this big response" though, or ask their size in relation to my own figure.

Actually, funny story, my manager was helping a customer and asked his gf's size and he goes, in total innocence, "she's not skinny, she's got a bit of meat on her bones, not unlike yourself". I nearly died.
Oh Lawd, you'd think guys would learn by now to stop commenting on womens' weight. -__-

Any other stories from utterly clueless guys trying to buy lingerie? Anyone leave the store in shame?

I'm a male (which does admittedly beg the question why I even clicked on this thread, but oh well) but I'd just like to say that itty bitty titty committee made me chuckle quite a bit. Doubly so when I imagined Morgan Freeman saying it.

But no, I've never had a problem with buying women's underwear. Mainly because I always make sure to wear my nice dress and my blonde wig while I go out.

Is that who I think it is?

Well that all depends on who you think it is =P If you think that it's Hugh Laurie, then you would be correct!

My girlfriend doesn't have the same issues as you but that's because she has a little notebook she writes such things in - I think that might just be one of her quirks though.
As a guy, I can't believe I read all that, understood it, and don't even have a girlfriend.

On the subject of bras, can someone explain to me why so many guys find it so difficult to undo one? It's so easy! Years of people telling me "oh it's impossible to get a girl's bra off", first time I did it I got it off with one hand.

As for my clothes shopping problems (because nobody asked) it's really difficult to find pants that fit me properly. I'm a tallish, skinny guy and a lot of my height comes from my legs. So pants that fit me around the waist are often too short in the leg, and ones that are the right leg length require a belt. It's frustrating, because the best places to find pants that fit are at the expensive shops, though I guess they do last a long time...

Where to even begin.

Nah, we generally try to make them feel comfortable as most of them are pretty nervous and/or clueless coming in so we try to help them as much as we can. I've had shy guys in who basically look at the floor the entire time or who stutter when they're asking for things. It's sweet, really.

... only one's bust up and the underwire's come out. I actually managed to pop it back in and sealed it over, although I guess it's still not so good for the machine...
How'd you fix it up? I've got two or three that the underwire has popped out of, but are otherwise fine.
I think I was lucky in that it had just kind of poked its way out of the end. I pushed it back through the hole it had made and looped it back in and then it was just a case of making a 'net' out of thread by sewing over that hole until it was a thick enough 'net' to keep it held in.

I think you should go to a proper underwear store.

Cheap bras not only fall apart quickly, but can destroy your breasts in the long run w\making the sag pre maturely, or flatten out across your body, as well as bad wires causing skin damages.

I am lucky because my mother owns a salon where they sell ordermade underwear.
I used to not care at all about the price and quality, but when you try a "real" one, you will never go bad to the cheap ones in walmarts, target and the likes.

Also, some expensive brands offer refitting (when your size changes they will adjust it)

My understanding (from your previous posts) is that you are female, correct? Your profile doesn't specify and I apologise if I'm wrong.
Pardon my bluntness, as I'm not really into explaining stuff right now, but I have a penis. I've used Y fronts and had no real trouble, despite not even being particularly well endowed.
