It's because games developers think that men are so shallow they won't buy games with images of real women in. That's ridiculous. And isn't helping those of us who are already worried we won't get a guy because we don't look like a model.
This, Couldn't have said it better.

But unfortunatly most men (IE the most of the people on XBL) are this shallow. But then again I find women to be equally shallow or even more shallow in real life, so it balences out.

If a real woman is cute and friendly and likes games, she's #1 on my list as a potential GF, no need for a super model here. I was actually just thinking these lines when I found this thread. The first "parasite eve" game had the cop woman in real clothes and I found it a good game - so let's go back to that.

Hmm I always wonder if I'll get a girl if I don't look like Conan.
Don't worry, you probably will. As long as a guy is friendly and shares some of my interests and cute (unless you object to the term) then he's potential BF material.
suppose this is the moment in which I ask for your email and post some cat ears of hope? ^-^ ?

First, that video was really well done, and covered pretty much anything I could add to the topic. I would like to focus in on the game industry's unfortunate belief that all gamers are sweaty, acne ridden adolescents who will buy anything that displays digital cleavage. It is insulting, and the best tactic for us gamers to change this stereo type is to refuse to buy such garbage. Once we have sorted out the industry, then we can work on smacking down the moral crusader politicians who use video games as a scape goat for everything wrong with society.

Oh yes. But I'm not putting it on a website where anyone can get it. I'll send you a private message.

What do you mean real women? I say fuck it, if "real man" is a muscular, witty, funny and heroic tough guy I try to be, then real woman is a supermodel with D cups and and waist no wider than the palm of my hand. Why the double standards? Go the gym.
You really are hoping for an "asshole of the year" award aren't you?
his language is blunt, but i think he brings up a good point that idealized appearances aren't necessarily limited to women in games. the dudes in Gears of War are unrealistically strong and fit and Snake and Raiden don't represent physique of the average male either. And rather than being offended, he suggests that we look to improving ourselves rather than complain about a game that may or may not make us conscious about our looks.
Well you see the guys in Gears of war etc. are perfect soldiers, not perfect men.
And saying that a real woman is "a super model with d-cup breasts and a waist no wider than the palm of my hand" is just obnoxious. Kukul's not inspiring anyone, he's just being a stereotype.

They're appealing to the lowest common denominator of all men, that's why. But yeah, they don't really need to do that, we have the internet for things like that.

Okay, I will not convince myself that women are mistreated in games until someone presents me with a few images of that. I watched the video, but I'm still not completely convinced.

I found it interesting in Lost Planet how Luka was in cold, cold areas where your character wears a thermo-suit but dies if he's out there for too long... but she has enough cleavage to lose a yappy dog in.

Add to that any war game where the men are in full armor but the women have three handkerchiefs...

I like to support games like "The Experiment"- wait, never mind, uh...

...

Actually, I can't remember a game where they didn't do this... wait! Day of the Tentacle! Uh, never mind...

Why are many females in video games usually very skanked up? Whether it is a small tank top trying to contain two melons or a mini-skirt/ short short with legs that go from here to the horizon. Now first I know that there a some games that have strong female characters (ex Alyx from half-life). but then you have the majority of games like Onechanbara bikini samurai squad or DoA beach volley ball. Here's a link to a vid that talks about gaming and sexuality

Because sex sells, because games are targeted primarily towards men, because games are primarily developed by men, because there are few moral guardians hounding the games industry about its depictions of women, because we live in a patriarchal, heteronormative society.

Im tall, busty, with an athletic tone....so I decided if I ever was endowed with some super ability or confronted with an apocalyptic world I'D completely start to shed mass amounts of clothing and adopt something that aided to movement...most likely the low cut tank top and cargoes with combat boots and a fake dogtag with something vulgar stamped onto it.

being a smart ass to the side now...

I for one have never had that much of an issue...yes there are some low-brow games..though most of them I take at a comical value, like bikini samurai I see as a tip of the hat to crappy b-movies.

that said the one thing that DOES annoy me is the breast physics that seem to be most common in games out of japan, like DOA.

Alright, I range in the DD, to E range myself, and NEVER NEVER in my life has my chest moved as freely as those characters do..they dont move in step where one boob moves up, and the other down... and they dont jiggle at the slightest breeze... and most importantly they dont stay nice and perky when I get knocked onto my back >.<

Im not sharing this to be vulgar or anything, more to illustrate that...apparently some character animators have never seen how real bust lines work..makes me wonder if they have ever seen real chests before >.<

big boobed characters are fine, just make them natural.

That said I can think of quite a few games that had stronger female characters, and avoided the big chest, or skanky approach...

though that said most of those games allow one to chose a gender ( ME/Kotor/JE/ )

when it boils down to it really....Gaming has done nothing that TV, or movies, or comic books have not already done...so I for one really don't make a big deal about it, but I reserve that my opinions could be alittle curved as I rely on some subtle selling of sexy male and female characters with my Manga/ western comics, so see it as general marketing in the entertainment buisness

I never mentioned the stereotypes of men in games. I realise that men are also not portrayed realistically, and I for one wouldn't want them to be like that.

As for go to the gym, that's just harsh. I shouldn't have to conform to the majority to be appreciated.
To be perfectly fair, if you are trying to appeal to the opposite sex, then you appeal to what they wish. If you are appealing to a superficial jackass then be a a supermodel with D cups and and waist no wider than the palm of my hand. If you want to appeal to a deep guy, then that's not as important but if you're ugly as fuck, I agree. Go to the gym.

Wait I should clarify,

I don't think you're ugly as fuck.

I've never bought a game which depicted women in this way, i'm more interested in cute love stories...as a guy said above this "soft-porn" is a disgrace. I'd feel very ashamed to be among the target audience of such a game.

Another thread about this?

It's horrible.

Just don't buy the game you hate, and it'll stop being popular.
