Ugh. ***** needs to quit her bitching.

I'm serious. Look, people are idiots and immature fuckholes. So yes, this was doubtless annoying. But it's also harmless. No one can hurt you by teabagging your corpse or shoving a digital face in a digital crotch.

So, why do I refer the woman as bitching *****? Because she not only freaks out over some stupid asshole being a stupid asshole, but then she raises some big media hullabaloo over it. Either she is the sort of despicable cancer on society I think she is, or a hired act by an anti-game lobby. And either way, I stand by my statement

Being offended or harassed over the internet? Oh no! That's terrible! Really, this makes me just want to punch the wall. I've been a victim of real life harassment for several years in my life, and I would say that if you can't handle something that's happening on the internet you're seriously weak. I've been harassed several times while playing some game and really, it makes me laugh when someone thinks they can get to me. The internet contains some of the worst things humanity have to show so using the internet and the worst thing you see is someone following you and crouching isn't really that big a deal.

Whoops. Put this on on the back burner and forgot about it. The main thing I wanted to comment on was this part though:
Another point to consider is that Home is a long cry from Halo -- There's different cultures within different games as well, and I'm not convinced that the kind of behavior which would be acceptable in Halo (like teabagging) is acceptable in Home.
I would disagree with this point. I've played a lot of games and been involved in a lot of communities, and while I've seen different levels of maturity in different games' fans, I find that the same rules pretty much apply to anything Online-based. The only difference between trends in one game to another (say from Halo to Home) tends to be based on how the game is played. Yeah okay, so you won't see much teabagging in Home, but you also don't do much killing in Home, either. It's hard for a trend to flow from game to game if the trend is a responsive action to something you do in the first game but not in the other.

While I can agree that it's a shame that this experience could potentially have turned her off to gaming, I would also argue that since Home isn't an actual game (it's more like if you were to play Warcraft and never leave the capitol cities), that she's making an uneducated assumption. If gaming was something that actually interests her, then it should take more than some douche following her around to scare her off. I would also argue that if she's seriously this emotionally fragile that she's raising such a fit over nothing, that she's probably better-off with other hobbies anyway.

shouldn't she make sure her avatar wasn't traumatized by all this, she sure is selfish.

but seriously I think she should get over it, it was probably just an 8 year old kid.

but funny if we are relating gaming to real life I've been born and deflowered a girl in assassins creed 2, I have been raped in san andreas (lol) I'm Joe Satriani and Zakk Wild! *****! and Hayley Williams! sweet! I have tits!...I mean I already had tits but thats different. fuck I must also deserve countless rewards because I've saved the universe countless times and I've been tortured and beaten and killed, I deserve candy.

how do we know he wasn't trying to say hello? it's how dogs do it!
Your name makes it impossibly hard to take your argument seriously...
well yeah funny thing is the first post I made on the Escapist was on a topic about rape, I said I was going to make a new account but I never got to it.

I honestly don't see the big deal here, seriously. I don't use this Home thing, but couldn't she just log out for a while or something?

Obviously this roommate has little MMO experience, cause I can only imagine her reaction to getting tea bagged in WoW or some other game.

These two kids are retarded. Thats like saying getting owned in Counter Strike is being murdered.
Quite a few differences, for one she isn't jumping on an online Japanese Molestation game and complaining. I'm not saying this can actually be called molestation, and yes it is stupid. But if the world banned the morons that do that are so immature sure alot of us would feel a whole lot better. I'm sure I would, anyway.

Seriously, this isn't sexual assault. This is some douchebag being an idiot and thinking that he's funny.
Yup agreeing with you there.
I wouldn't go so far as to call it 'sexual assault'. It's like calling someone out on multiple accounts of murder, when you get shot a bunch of times by the same guy in GTA.
I'd maybe call it harassment as best.

Some people need to sort their life out... honestly, if this constitutes news that the person had to say their friend was sexually assaulted on Home...

I played Home and i will admit that I would follow people around and just wave at them or dance in their face, I did not try and perform "sexual" acts, although even if I had, so what? Its a computer game...

I would follow people around and anouy them because well i thought it was funny, and about the only fun I could have on home... because it does kinda suck.

This person needs to grow up really. And anyone who thinks this sort of thing is out of order or actually news worthy.

Oh god no, more serious business has happened over the internet. The harasser used his magical sexual powers to coax her away from the logout button!

And think of all the money Home will lose if it loses some of it's fanbase... somewhere approximate to the absolutely nothing it earned in the first place.

Oh, you think sexual assault is bad? Last night someone murdered me and destroyed my starbase in EVE Online.

I am still in recovery.
