I guess the same arguement can be applied to men as well. Cause, every male lead role in a video game is basically talking muscles, or carries enough weapons to make a pawn shop wimper.

But, eh. I'm indifferent. When I see a game that tells you to rape and/or beat your wife/girlfriend or just some random women, drag her dead body to a hole, t-bag it for a few minutes, then I'll feel more inclinded to the "mistreatment of women in video games."

Well, I kind of agree. but its expected, it sells.

Just like you wont see an average guy in (most) games, its either a huge roid rager, or some emo fairy boy.

Sorry to say this but this is true, sex sells. And most males are stupid enough to buy any game that

you DO realize you just did reverse sexism, and totally rendered your point invalid?

lets try to get past your reverse ignorance and look at your point..
a game that involves shooting or killing, or sports.
well, can you name a good game that didn't involve any of that at all?
because I sure as hell cant.

This, as many people have said is a problem in modern day society, however you even the woman have to acknowledge that the only reason (in my VERY humble opinion) they are portrayed like this, is because of a very small percentage of the female population.

Allow me to explain. Lets face it, there are many different types of females and some like, or don't mind, being portrayed as they are in video games and the media in general. Its because of these girls that the masses believe that its cool for this to occur.

And raider chicks dont count because you often blew them up into a bunch of tiny pieces before you remembered to check them out, and other exceptions aside the game was boringly chaste.
Plus raider chicks looked more like Tank Girl than anything else.

Also, a mesh strainer bikini top doesn't count because it's just such pure win. You know there's an avant-guard fashion designer thinking "now why didn't I come up with that?"
Something to be brought up: does the outfit match the character's personality and job?

To look again at the RPG genre, is a woman wearing a chainmail bikini and getting just as much protection from it as the man who has to wear full plate armor, including helmet and shield? Someone COULD argue that the idea behind a mage walking around id some fairly skimpy cloth that can barely be considered clothing could be argued towards practicality rather then simply selling sex.

To pull from many, many western RPGs, magic is usually quite complex and requires a LARGE range of motion to get the spell off. This setup makes not only armor, but large, flowing robes completely out of the question. The other side of it is that a martial artist (see DnD monk) also wants a similar amount of movement, but doesn't want an overabundance of cloth to potentially get in the way of melee combat, as it could vary easily lead to his or her own death.

However, should a female character be able to walk around in, again, the chainmail bikini and get the same protection from it as the knight if full plate armor, complete with full face helmet and shield? Not only no, but hell no. If a female character can get better protection the less armor that she's wearing, I'm gonna switch to playing exclusively female characters, strip completely down, give her a sword, and go running around killing shit while I seemingly can't get hurt.

Edit: After rereading this, I realized that I wasn't entirely clear and felt I should clarify: I'm not simply arguing that female characters should run around near nude if the setting calls for it, but, in the case of the magic/martial artist argument, it should be fairly equalized between the genders.

I know so many guys who fall under A B C or D, I wasn't listing those to be funny. I'm basing it off what I know. And yes I know it's reverse sexism, but it's also true. TV shows, movies, anime, video games when targeted to guys have lots of action, lots of hot girls, or both.
Halo, Gears of Wars, Left 4 Dead falls under my shooty action list
X-Blades, DoA, Fable 2, Disgaea 3 can fall under my sexy list

The only people I met in real life that enjoy stuff like puzzle games or retro stuff, was my nerdy Computer Science friends.

Also how is it ignorant to be honest about it? Show me one action game where the female is not wearing something "sexy" (I can only think of portal so thing of something else).

Fallout is considered to be an "Action-RPG" hybrid, I'll cite that series.

Edit: English is my native language. Really.

Rainbow Six, Tenchu Z, Indigo Prophecy, Beyond Good and Evil, hell, even GTA. Sure, GTA has hookers and strippers, just like real life does. They also have fully clothed woman, just as real life, and fully clothed badass woman, again, as in real life.

And shit, just look at Halo 3. You poked fun at it, yet it has female space marines, fully armored in the same armor and helmet, firing the same guns, fighting the same aliens. And the space marine males, are just average soldiers. Not to mention the person who helps you through the entire game is female, and she is fully clothed.
So, i dont understand why you would bash a game that somehow represents everything you think games should be doing?

Ever see a female spartan in halo 3? You cant tell, because they wear the same armor.

So, if a woman isn't portrayed as a sex symbol, we cant point it out because it doesn't count.
ah okay, i see how pointless this topic is now.

Not at all. Simply that there IS no telling as to whether or not you're playing a female character, or if that thing that's killing you is a man or a woman but you're really not concerned about it because of the fact that it just blew your face off.

Powered armor really don't help in portraying the idea that the person inside is male or female. There's really no way to tell. If, however, you WEREN'T in powered armor and had, say, two covert ops characters standing next to one another, one male one female, and the female character is wearing something that could be considered a corset and pair of panties while the male character is wearing a full on body suit, that's where the argument is lying.

uhh Metroid.
throughout the entire game samus is in a ginormis power suit, you cant even see her face.
only at the end of the game do you see her, and even then she is fully clothed.
and she isint really exagurated.
she is pretty normal...... except for the fact she travles around space hunting alien's for a living.

Meh, you see realistic men as often as you see realistic women in any media. I'm not bothered by it. But it isn't just women who are misrepresented. And this is where I stop, for if I was to say anything else on the subject, it would be chauvinistic and offensive.

Results of a male driven culture. It's annoying that all female gamers get is either:

1. slutty girl
2. huge *****
3. overly tough woman with no personality
4. huge wimp

One of the four is usually what every female character in gaming amounts too. It gets old, like all woman have these really extreme personalities and no movement in between, while male characters can have an array of personalities--especially on the RPG scene.

Anymore I just roll my eyes and ignore it.
