Don't be so ignorant. There's a difference between Zoe Castillo and, I dunno, Ivy from SCIV. You can be pretty while not being a set of boobs attached to a human body.
I could say the very same thing to you. Ivy is in a fighting game. There is no story. There is no character development. She is just there to beat the shit out of you and look good while doing it.
How many fat ugly guys are there in SC huh? Not freaking many if any I will bet.

I'm not complaining about how the character could be more attractive than I could ever be. I'm just annoyed that you see it so consistently that sometimes I wouldn't hurt to have something a little different.

I have the same attitude towards male game characters. You see the guys pumped with steroids so much that it wouldn't hurt to see something a bit different.
Then get into modding and make your own ugly characters for PC games. Besides, even if they have a fat, ugly character like Fat Princess then people complain about that too. Sex sells. End of story.
I couldn't agree more. And yes, the attractiveness is and always will be a selling point of any and every game. I'm just saying that it doesn't necessarily mean the character has to be unattractive. It would just be nice if there was something different from the norm.

Personally, I prefer more athletic women than the busty, curvacious heroines/villainesses of current games. However, I am not the standard. While I appreciate what the designers and developers did with the characters... I think they should focus on characterization, and story... to make those women seem all the more attractive.

Same thing goes for male characters... As a heterosexual male, I think that characters built like say, the Prince of Persia or Link, are more attractive than Marcus or Kratos.

What I find amusing is how women can isolate themselves into a group and feel misrepresented when in all honesty EVERYONE but "Good looking, tough white males" is misrepresented, under-represented, and in some cases, UN-represented at all!

For example, how many games depict African Americans or people of color as anything other than the stereotype "Big mass of muscle with that carries a heavy machine gun and moves like a wounded seal, usually voiced by Michael Clark Duncan?"

Why are almost ALL male leads, even in Japanese games represented by some effeminate ambiguous male that looks like a malnourished 12 year old instead of the typical Japanese guy?

Why are gays always ludicrously voiced and ridiculously dressed in flamboyant attire while doubling as the comic relief?

Why are Mexicans always portrayed only in bandanas and always yelling out catch-phrases like "I see you now Puto" and "Aye carumba".

For that matter why are women always portrayed as ass-kicking, masculine action heroes who can usually kick any guy's butt in any given situation even though in reality the physiological advantages of the male body would give most male assailants a tremendous advantage in hand-to-hand combat, and is doubled in such scenarios where the man is some sort of military trained mercenary or fighter. This even extends to television and media where society has become 100% enamored with "lead female" casts where tough as nails gals kick butt and take names as everything from FBI agents to homicide detectives to demon slayers.

On the other hand, the majority of Games tend to be overweight, unattractive by most standards, and introverted shut ins while the characters they play as are almost always svelt examples of the male form, all of them Matthew Mcconaughey clones that double as the cast of MTv reality shows and CW dramas when they arent off fighting alien invasions and getting in gun battles. Yet nobody complains, because when it comes to entertainment, everybody quietly acknowledges that we'd rather escape into a world where heroes are all good looking, athletic, and supernaturally skilled, than to be over-weight, boring, and unable to find a date on the weekends than just more reality.

Just as soon as Naughty Dog releases "Man-boob Boy and the Stretch-mark Princess", or a game where the lead black character isn't a caricature of some hip-hop loving Will Smith sci fi movie knock-off I'll be the first to sign up for the Girl Gamer cause.

Well, not SC. Let's take Street Fighter, for instance. Honda is disgusting, but it has "sexy" (if we're considering 3D models sexy) characters as well. Same with Mortal Kombat. It's got a bloody fat bastard who pukes on the ground, and a female ninja with boobs that eclipse her head.

In games with a story? The first Tomb Raiders. Lara Croft had gigantic breasts in those games, and only in Legend and Underworld did they change her body figure (keep in mind, she's still "sexy", and has large breasts, but they're realistic now, and her build is much more athletic)

Yes im guessing its a concern of a lot of female gamers. But then again its what sells, you can see the predicament were in here.
Do join! I've joined and the group has some of the most intelligent gaming talk I've seen. Plus, it'd be nice to have a man I know* around there as well.

* In as much as you can "know" someone you've never seen.
Well i have been considering it, but due to my reputation around these parts i was afraid i wouldnt be taken seriously. I will though, you can protect me from those women in there.
Reputation? What reputation? (PM if you'd like)

No matter, I'll protect you from those women (not that there's anything to protect you from. They're all smart, awfully kind, witty and very very welcoming)

I'm not even a woman and *I'M* tired of women being presented with very little dignity.

Gaming needs more female rolemodels like Alyx Vance.
I cannot think of a single better written female character in any video game to date.

I honestly think things have been improving slightly, though I do agree. You have to dig a little deeper than normal to find decent female characters, and very few of those are the main protagonist (if any). The only games I can think of with that particular quality are Metroid, Beyond Good and Evil, and Portal...

You don't play very many fighting games, let alone Soul Calibur, I take it? Ivy's actually a pretty cool character.

Yeah. You have to go to Tekken for that.

When developers make an illogically ample character with lips like balloons and a leather bikini, it's usually just to get money off horny teenagers who can't get laid. But personally, I find pasty, tattooed, flat chested, baggy trousered, man handed Faith from mirrors edge 150x more appealing than, say, Lara croft.

Not this again. Who the frack cares about female gamers? Stop whining about girls in video games being hotter than you could ever, ever, ever be. Until they turn all the male characters to fat, greasey, cheeto covered slobs you have no right to complain.
Simple fact is, the majority does not want a fat, acne scarred chick any more than they do in their male leads. Apart from Mario how many ugly, unappealing male main characters are there?
The only thing that really destroys female gamers dignity is when they are seen crying over such a trivial matter.
Society likes pretty people. If you do not like it, do not buy it.
Hmm.. you obviously havn't been around many female gamers, or maybe many females. So here's the rub:
I play games. I also have D-cup breasts, weigh around 130 pounds, have never had skin problems in my life, no longer menstruate thanks to a little implant in my arm, and have been described as "nothing short of magnificent". I have it pretty good you know. I drew a lucky card in the genetics department, and I like to take care of myself. But you know what? I care about my identity too. When I play a game, I want the focus to be on game play. I want a good, believable story. I want immersive character development. I don't want unrealistic, sexually driven character design. If I'm suppose to be wearing battle armor, put me in friggin' battle armor, not a peice of tinfoil and vinyl that my nipples barely stay inside.

I agree, all female characters from now on should look like 12 year old girls from JRPGs.(sarcasm)

This is where I point out - unlike sexual orientation, race or class, GENDER is not a minority. There are problems with other representations, I know, and it does suck. But you have to see here, that HALF the world's population is being displayed as often nothing more than a sex object.

Ivy's cool and all but I fear what will happen in the next SC game, she's going to be all boobs and less clothing than she already has.

Personally I'd go for girls in ALL forms of media to not have overtly gigantic breasts and guys to not be overtly muscular macho men.

Mostly, however, I just ignore it and in games such as SC4 I make my own character who looks like a more realistic kind of girl.

Yes but the problems you stated can be seen on both female and male characters, aside from the armor being the complete opposite on a male character(THEY NEVER TAKE IT OFF).

What about Rufus, from SFIV? SFIV doesn't have much in the way of story.
That's where you're wrong. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.137467#3092808] The story just isn't very good.

Anyway, I see what you're saying. Although men are hyper-idealized as well, women seem to get it worse. For example, look at Resident Evil 5. Both Chris [http://www.gamekyo.com/images_1/avatar/big/f9d7b0bb0e868666d084d6b20abe5d4820081103135743.jpg] and Sheva [http://www.crunchgear.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/sheva.jpg] are clearly fanservice, but at least Chris doesn't have to put up with the male equivalent of this [http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/residentevil/images/thumb/5/5d/Sheva-alomar-tribal-costume.jpeg/300px-Sheva-alomar-tribal-costume.jpeg] for an unlockable costume.
