As I said on the "official" thread (That is, the actual Escapist article that has 500+ replies and counting, making me question why this one bothers to exist)... Is that I don't mind her videos at all. They're very fair "Make women equal" and not "We're better, let's show everyone". (Most noticeable in her Lego videos, go watch those).

My only problem is that I don't know why she needs 6,000$ to do it. And she's earned 70k+ (Last I heard). If she gets that funding, what the fuck does she need all that for? She was doing fine.

Another vandalism attempt saw a description of Sarkeesian as a "****" make it into the excerpt on the first result for her name on Google ? something that was posted with pride on various forums, including the Escapist.

This is all hugely shameful...

What people fail to realize is that their future employers and schools can look up internet history as part of a background check.

Making films costs more than you think. Looking at her blog, she's using the extra cash to expand the series to 12 parts. Maybe overkill, but hey, it's by donation. Those funding it are doing so of their own free will.

While I think the people against her went way over the line, I'm personally not a fan of her doing a piece on videogames, she seems like the video's goal aren't to attack the medium rather than explore it. Plus the whole "I pretend to understand gaming by holding a controller and mindlessly bashing on it makes me totally legit" disgusts me. I don't understand how in this day and age someone thinks they can fool gamers, hell just look up a random video on the net of someone holding a damn controller instead of picking one up and mindlessly mashing the D-pad and the A button and pretending like you're really engaged in playing a game.

I guess. I can't argue against the funders - It's their money. I just find most of her videos are just fine, and adequate. Her original 6,000 might be okay. But I would have taken the higher road and cut the fund off at a certain point (10,000 might be logical?) because at a certain point they money would just be going to groceries and shit.

That's very accurate. My brother is a 29 year old, normal-looking and mostly well-spoken guy (If a bit of a know-it-all), yet degrades into textspeak for humor's sake for extended periods of time. If I didn't know him, I would have thought he was some stupid teen.

People are going to say things they don't mean because it's the internet and they want attention. If you give them attention, they'll see that they get rewarded for what they're doing, and do it more.

If anything I would criticize the fact that this became a big gaming news story. I'm not supporting abuse, but I am supporting the sensibility to know when someone's trying to have a laugh at your expense and to be able to ignore them.

Also, strawman; my argument was never "It happens a lot so it's ok".

Sometimes one can accidentally have implications behind some of their posts. For example, I -do- get a "Meh, not a big deal" vibe from your posts. Could be incorrect, I'm just saying.
Some people's posts are just hostile, and people will reply accordingly.

Although she rubs me the wrong way after watching some of her other videos I don't think these comments are remotely justified. But to be fair, her comment in youtube shows she had expected this and will possibly use it in further videos as evidence etc
