I am with you on this one, I was blinded the first time I saw the new layout, one of my best friends thought that page hadn't loaded and has just stopped watching ZP altogether now that he has to wear sunglasses to get to it (the [small]slightly[/small] darker options do nigh-on bugger-all). The edges of the menus and lists and everything just don't look trimmed well, and it honestly feels like the site has gone Backwards in time with the design change... The only elements I like are the ones that were kept from the old design.
And this is not just that I hate change, I have not minded design changes in many other sites, because they haven't made my experience less pleasant. Now I am always aware of the solar flare (with a slightly darker frame, lest I forget that small detail) erupting from my screen and what looks like pieces of luminous light-blue poster-paper stuck on my menu-bars.

I got used to it after a few months. Still want to make more changes to the background, but at least it doesn't feel like my eyes are about to explode anymore.
I started regularly using the Escapist about a week before the layout change and I actually like the new one. It had a rough start with pretty common bugs and what not but now it works and give it some credit it still isn't as bad as the new YouTube channels.
I just got over it. I remember liking the old one more though - it seemed far more user friendly than this one. Still does after all this time.
The main page is a cluster fuck but it seems the way the internet seems to be moving these days, facebooks new time line squashes everything together, youtube has also adopted the put as many video thumb nails as possible per screen. I never visit the homepage of this site for that reason.
My big problem with it though is those fucking drop down boxes! You mouse over them and down come lists of stuff, I wish they would add a 0.5 second delay to it so I don't constantly click the wrong thing.
The amount of times I have wanted to click "gaming discussion" or "off topic" and instead clicked on the latest of Yahtzee's articles is beyond belief! Every time I go from another tab to my escapist tab I have to swing all the way over to the left, over the escapist logo then to what I want to click on, so I don't have these annoying drop boxes raining down!

Well I hardly watch or read anything on here now, and my posting has dropped to almost zero because the layouts seem much more skewed towards pointless threads. Content is harder to find, it looks ugly and it frequently doesn't work on a variety of different computers that I use.

Bad design and poor navigability don't fix themselves with time, there are only a couple of things I bother coming back for these days.
And piss yellow. Don't forget the "natural" option! I would love it if they added a "classic" option that turned the background blue like it used to be. Or make that natural, because, seriously, why the fuck did they choose piss yellow?!Tubez said:
