So I looked and didn't see a thread for this so here goes. Those who've been waiting can now wait just a little bit longer. It seems Sony is making an HD remake of FF7. Any thoughts on what you hope is in it, or what you hope isn't in it?

I'm the biggest fan in the world of FFVII (I will fight anyone who dares say otherwise), but I don't think this is worth getting a PS4. If it comes to PC or Xbox I'm in, but we'll see. There are a million ways to do this wrong, so I'm withholding judgement until I see how they're going to handle it.

I can't believe they actually did it. I never imagined they would actually do it.

I can't say if it will be good or not. I'll be buying it (huge FF7 fan) so I won't even lie about that. But I do worry how it will be received in a post 9/11 world. Terrorism is a thing that you do partake in in the game. And I can just imagine Fox News getting their hands on that. And Cloud does dress up as a woman so I can only imagine how that will be taken by some of the more insane members of the internet.

My only hope is that it is good. That they do something good with combat and keep the game faithful to the original. Please don't screw this up. You've waited this long to remake it. Make it good. It'll break our hearts if it's less than great.

Yet, I feel parts need to be updated. So how do you update combat and materia without ruining them (I'd hate to see FFXIII style combat in this game)? There are some old systems that may not be well received in a modern game. So, what do they do? I do not envy the team developing it.

In the end, I still have FF7 on my PSP (and on disc), though. So, don't worry about me.

IT BEGINS.

Anyone besides me excited to see the fallout that will eventually occur amongst the male fanbase when/if the bathing scene occurs?

OT: Good to see that pre2.0 FFXIV/FFXV drained the coffers enough for this to occur.

Edit: Meant FFXV. Screw off.

...You realize FF14 is actually a major contributor to SE's coffer right?

But yea, excited for this, but not at all surprised by all the hate that's begin to flow. Some people was actually trying to argue that SE is only doing this because they despise and hate their current fans.

This will very much be an Advent Children-ised version of Final Fantasy VII, in my opinion. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It'd be great if they got Advent Children's voice actors back.

Now that said, I don't think Final Fantasy VII was a particularly good game. Especially its underlying story. But this version might turn out decent.

Also, it's almost certain to come to PC.

Jesus, all the good to great games released so far this year, recently the announcements of XCOM 2 and Fallout 4 coming out this year, and now the return of the Last Guardian and this remake, on top of things like Arkham Knight on the horizon, just wow.

I mean I know 2014 was kind of a disappointing year for a lot of big releases, but 2015 is making up for all of those mediocre releases in a massive way. If fallout 4, Arkham Knight, and XCOM 2, hit it out of the park, depending on how the annual releases go this could end up being one of my personal best years for games since I started playing in the 80's.

EDIT: Shit, totally forgot both Shenmue and Dishonored 2, yeah, I'm pretty optimistic about this year as of right now.

I too am stunned this actually managed to happen. I'm rather impressed. For someone who couldn't be too interested in playing FF 7 for both the reasons of hype, and just how ugly a lot of it looked, this is a bit of a god send. If it's good, I think it'd be an excellent time for me to give it a shot, if I get a PS4 in the end (Needs to make me want it more than a Wii U though. Good luck~)

Sony specifically said that it would release first on the PS4. This heavily implies that it will eventually come to other platforms.

Squenix continue milking the FFVII cash cow. Shocking. It's not a FFV or VI remake so I couldn't even begin to give a shit (and don't even talk to me about those mobile ports).

But if I can be slightly less cynical and grumpy I think they'll probably do a good job (although let's wait and see what DLC/microtransactions are included) and if it comes to PC (unlikely) I'll pick it up when it's on sale.

Im glad, its my favourite game of all time after all and imo one of the best games ever created but its hard to get to excited after the disappointments in the past along with the fact there was no gameplay shown and no release date given.

I hope they dont deviate to much from the original and keep all they can the same except maybe clean up some of the dialogue a little and expand the materia system more. I would also like the option to turn off the voices if it is voiced.

My main worry is how they handle some of the more surreal and amusing aspects of the original hopefully they find a way. I dont want to get hype when its almost certainly so far off still but this is my most looked forward to game now by far probably of all time as well.

I cant wait to see all the characters new looks. I hope they keep their old costumes and not the advent children ones although a choice would be fine as well.

I expect it to hit early 2017 in time for the twentieth anniversary so a long way off yet. Also Square Enix you better not cancel this.

Square can't back out now, they know that. If they cancelled it people would fucking riot, lol.

OT: They better not fuck it up!

That's nice. Nice for the fans. I don't care anymore. There's so much else to play, Final Fantasy VII is better off staying in that part of my memory that's shrouded in a fog of nostalgia.

This is interesting. I'll be interested to see what gets cut or changed; many of the game's elements would likely be considered far too... 'adult' for today's general audiences, unless the rating got bumped to an M, or they did it as far more targeted release than I'm imagining.

This brings up a good time to ask all you ff7 fans

How many of you knew about Sephiroth's killing Aerith before playing it?

This isn't even spoiler is it?

I knew. Dead Aeris was shown in commercials and the same image (her getting a little swimming lesson) was on the back of the box.

I feel like I'm one of the few people rational enough to accept a few small changes to gameplay, environments, and general dialogue, but I will stand firm that the main story HAS to remain the same. If they screw something up with the story, I can only imagine how people would react.

Other than the fear of that, I'm stoked. I did not see that actually ever happening, and I'm ready to bash anyone's face in with the sharp corner of my PS4 that thinks this shouldn't happen.
