Oh, right. Forgot about that train wreck.
Square-Enix would probably like to as well.
Considering the effort they're putting into keeping their customers around long enough for them to be able to redesign the game completely...

I'm going to say that they're doing the opposite of trying to forget it. They're actually trying to learn from and fix their mistakes. Shocking, really, considering how they "learned" from FFXI when they made FFXIV.
I thought FFXI was actually a half decent MMO. For an MMO. World was big, interesting locales, warkable mechanics, expansions weren't bad either (only played Zilart and Promathia).
Oh, agreed, but FFXI had a lot of problems that just couldn't be rectified without redoing the whole game from the ground up.

They had the chance to do this with FFXIV, but instead decided to ignore all the lessons learned with FFXI so that they could instead just make entirely new ones.

Hats off to Square Enix, atleast they have extended (3 or 4 times) their free play period.... of course when you spend such horrendous amounts of money you better damn well make the game maintain a large enough paying fan base.

I Played FF XIV when it first came out ... I'll give it one go. I don't really like mmo's, but I have fond memories of XI that I don't mind tossing 15 USD a month and get 10-20 hours a month entertainment out of it o.o

I agree ... it's pretty broken. The UI is unintuitive, the quest system is annoying, and the world seems to be just 4 large maps. When they retool it I might give it a look (not costing me anything right?) but I'll probably cancel my subscription u.u;

But at the very least FF XI is still getting updates and the team seem dedicated to providing new experiences to players there, so atleast they're not just scrapping the whole thing and giving it a go.

Glad to see SquareEnix hasn't changed.
It's a strategy that has made them billions in the years that they used it? Why stop now when they are still making billions of their games. They're still shooting for that trillion goal.

Looking forward to it.

And with that said, I'm off since the bashers are obviously already here in force.

FF13 sold well, didn't it?

So of course they'll want to cash in it some more.

Well the thing with Final Fantasy games is that they write a new world, new mechanics and new characters every single time they make a new Final Fantasy game, that's 12 original worlds, with original characters, original species and inhabitants (Besides the recurring species) and 12 different game mechanics. How many studios do you know that have done that? Much less hit spot on with all 12. Give them a break.

I happened to like the XIII mechanics and world, I just didn't like the linearity and characters, and here they are trying to redeem themselves, I say give them a chance.

Man, it's like Square doesn't even try with these games anymore.

To quote Yahtzee on this:
"Please stop buying these games so we can do something else! We have totally run out of ideas! I spent the last 6 months rendering the glisten playing off the greasy exposed breasts of some athletic hip-cocking slut, and now I want to kill myself!"

Really, they should just stop trying.

FF will be around until Square decides to either die, gracefully step down or y'know start making good games, and even then some other dev team could try and revive FF after that.

Also how is this a surprise? The fact that it's FF13 kinda you a hint that Square is big on sequels.

Why make a sequel to the worst FF game since X? This will probably turn out worse than X-2 even!

Why is this a shock?? the company made money off the game and its pretty much its biggest franchise. FF will be around pretty much for ever.
Yea, but why not just move on to FF14, which MAYBE a few less people will hate? You know, instead of making a sequel to a game which even several die-hard Final Fantasy fans wanted to burn?
I'm going to guess that you don't know that FF14 already came out and it is universally hated probably even more than FF13 because its not even a functional game. It's a clone MMO of FF11 and is so riddled with control problems and an impossible to navigate UI that SquareEnix extended the 'free play time' indefinitely until they fix the problem. Which is going on half a year now? Extended beta test ftw?

Also FF10 was good but boring, and FF10-2 was alright but very fun.
I hope the same rings true for FF13.

Also, doesn't FF13 already have two sequels/side stories in the works? FF13 Versus and FF13 Agito?

THANK YOU! I have a huge hatred for people who just claim that each Final Fantasy is a sequel. Dislike it if you want, but never doubt that Square really put a lot of work into creating a new world every time, and new ways to play their games.

I personally enjoyed 13. Sure, the lack of towns annoyed me, but I've always said that the party was on the run, so they wren't going to get a chance to stop in at a town and take a few days out. Plus, it really gave characters time to interact with each other.

Plus, Sahz was awesome.

To me, Final Fantasy has become like Pokemon at this stage, it's an entity that is just there, I'm not a fan of FF or Pokemon (the new ones anyway), but I've come to terms with the fact that neither of them will end because it will be bought and loved regardless of whether it's a genuinely good game or not.

Well Lightning was pretty hot. With that in mind whatever gets cute cosplayers in pink hair can't be a bad thing. Then again what FF characters aren't young and beautiful? (I know there's some, point is they're the exceptions to the rule.)

Hey maybe the sequel will be better than the original, it could happen. Look at The Road Warrior. or... Highlander? No forget Highlander.

Square-Enix...Brave Fencer Musashi!....then the sequel!YOU KNOW WHAT YOU DID!Poor child!

OT:As much as I hate the series,Kingdom Hearts fans should not have to wait for 3 FF games and KH spin-offs to get the sequel they have waited to patiently for.And isn't Final Fantasy supposed to have a good self-contained story?
