Almost, the best are Tactics, V, AND VI.
implying 6 is one of the best when only the first half of it is good
I agree with you there, but the first half is SO good.

Its sorta like Mass Effect (don't taze me bro)
In my humble opinion, the first sequence on the citadel was brilliant. The dialogue, the characters, the side quests that led to more side quests, you felt immersed in the politics of a real life galaxy. And then you're thrust into the ACTUAL galaxy and you drive around in the goddamn Mako for side quests. The main missions kept up the awesomeness, but i'll never forget how much worse the side quests got in Mass Effect.

On a more related note, to the OT: It is my belief that FFVI is far from forgotten, it has its fanbase, and has been remade multiple times. What is really forgotten is FF2. For good reason, but FF2 is almost NEVER brought up in the threads/conversations I have seen/spoken in.

5 is the most overlooked, actually.
I dunno, doing my research 5 got an anime sequel AGES ago
Even so. Gets no credit for being one of the best.

3 gets less credit, but only has classes, with no way to mix them up like FF5.

And just isn't very good.

3 gets no credit because 1 was good, 2 was great, misunderstood but had a story and characters, then 3 was like, characters, nah, not for me, lets just make loads of jobs that are basically the same, that and it's first release out of japan was the ds remake

but yea 5 = great

Never got to play FF6. One day I will try to find a copy I guess.

But one thing that bugs me is Cloud being called emo. He wasn't at all.

I personally blame Advent Children and Squall for this imagine Cloud emoness.

I liked FFVI a lot! Especially the final battle.
FFIV was ok, but not as good.
I put FFV down after 5 minuted of play because I couldn't stand the text and art style.

...You mean the sprites and text boxes? THE SAME ONES THEY USED IN 4 AND 6?
oh gosh, wrong thing to say Susano, lol. I should probably amend my beginning post to say I already know that FF6 was ported to PS1 as anthologies and ported to the GBA, however they were the same sprites (not the same text boxes, curse you censors, you ruin everything!)

Also, how did this thread get onto the topic of cloud's supposed Emo-ness? Wrong topic and wrong game, lol!

Eep
Anyway, Usually when I'm starting a FF game, I can almost immediatly say "This is the main character, I like him/her. That didn't happen with V.
Also:

Although 90% of that was because it didn't come out outside Japan first time around.

It was really popular there, especially among the nerdcore players (the kind who complete the whole game* without levelling up once)

*Almost, there's one fight where you can't avoid getting XP.

I agree, Six IS BETTER THAN SEVEN.

Seriously, it has a story that is actually FINISHED, the main character(s) aren't mentally traumatized delusionals, and it had rockin music.

Seven is good, but six is better.
I'd just like to point out that 7 actually makes a better story in that sense because it did not "finish." The game ended when it was supposed to. I think we're long past spoilers here, but I'll still just say that when you're supposed to be following Cloud, it doesn't make much sense to continue after the end of the game. Also, the best universes leave controversy and conflict that is to be resolved (or not) after the reader/viewer/player finishes. What kinda story do you know that ended completely, without any loose ends, just because a major player died/disappeared/had a change of heart? 7 tells us that the world goes on, even after you beat the final boss. 6, unfortunately, does not provide that same sense of actuality.

Another reason to have an open ending is to leave room for more games in the same vein. I don't particularly mind such marketing techniques, as long as I feel like the game wasn't cut short in order to do so.

Hmmm i loved 6 ...and 8 neither of which got much love. i hope they get revived though, they deserve a lot better than what they got. i believe that they will realise that they are making a big mistake by ignoring ff6 and bring it into the modern day.

You want forgotten? Try 9 or 5. I haven't played 5, so I can't vouch for it, but 9 is probably my favorite FF ever. It's got an amazing world and atmosphere. Also, the world map theme is the best ever. *videosnip*

Yeah, no. Nine was doomed to failure when all but like 4 of the characters were revealed to be angsty teen-age pissants. LET US NOT ALSO FORGET THE SIX-YEAR OLD WHO HAD A DESIRE TO GET FILLED WITH ZIDANE'S MEATSTICK.

The only good thing about FF9 was the return to 4 person comabt parties.

Oh, and OT: Yes. FF6 Rules all. Kefka for Emperor!

FFVI was an absolutely AMAZING game. It had a wonderful story and amazing characters. Unfortunately it was over shadowed by FFVII. And although many will disagree, VII was over-hyped. It WAS a VERY good game, but it's not one of the greatest games of all-time. Other stories and games easily by pass it in story delivery and gameplay. Too many fanboys to give it up.

II, V, and IX are the most underappreciated in my opinion.

But VI always holds a special place in my heart, (IX too!).

The music is so great, and the characters are all uniquely interesting.
But I think Kefka makes the game so special. The most threatining villain in the whole FF series, not because of his power, (having the power of a god, though impressive, is fairly standard form in final bosses! XD), but because he was ruthless, cruel, and cunning.
He was a villian you truely felt had to be stopped, especially when he started destroying villages with his "ray 'o' death" because he damn well felt like it!

A remake or spinoff would be interesting, but I personally would like to see more of IX.
In my opinion, it had the best battle system, (but could be improved on I'll admit), Zidane is a refreshing protagonist, and Vivi (who is awesome!) and Steiner are very good supporting characters.
Plus I would love to see more of Quina! XD (Maybe this time we'll get more of a hint on its gender!)

Well, I can say that FF6 was esentially the ONLY Final Fantasy game I really liked, it did have a better plot, but also it had a colorful cast of characters that didn't include angsty protagonists, effeminate boys, or any of that sort that I can recall, and it's more beutifully atmosphereic.

If only more JRPGs were made like they were in FF6, 'cause then they'd at least sell a little bit better.
