Whatever gets the company money and attention is good.

Also new scams, The third Golden Sun was a whore with all false announcements, and even that fake game at E3. I'm happy they finally announced it, but all those times people got hyped just be kicked in the dick and told to calm the fuck down, sad.

First of all, I never fully played through FF7, I only have a vague idea what it's about and the game doesn't really occupy any place of relevance in my heart. However, I also recognize that a lot of people adore the game and would really like it remade in current gen technology. And I have to admit it would be nice to maybe play it at long last (the graphics always turned me off the original).

For the past few months there has been a steady stream of news articles on both gaming sites that I follow (Escapist and Kotaku) relating to the FF7 remake. I don't remember seeing them before, at least not to this extent. First it was that they aren't going to make it, then they said they'd like to make it, then it was that they can't afford to make it and now it's that they're looking into making it [http://kotaku.com/5499449/ceo-well-explore-the-possibility-of-final-fantasy-vii-remake]. At first I didn't care, but now it's starting to bug me a bit...

Am I the only one who finds this to stink quite a bit of hype building? Playing "hard to get" and teasing, trying to make it eventually seem like they are giving in to the demands of their fans (because they love them oh so much [/sarcasm]), while at the same time knowing the damn thing would practically print money? I'm roughly 90% sure that they are already making it and that we're likely to see concrete info about it by the end of this year.

What do you think? Am I crazy or might I be on to something?

Also, on a related note, any other gaming press scams that you can recall?
Oh my God, man, you don't even know the half of it.

It may seem like this is a recent thing, but really, people were asking for a sequel as soon as the game came out. Then the remake clamor began the second the PS2 was announced.

SE obviously doesn't want to, and should they really be forced to make a game they don't want to make? Has that ever, ever turned out well for anyone?

My biggest fear is due to the fact that the entire 'compilation' seems to be carefully routing around the original game, setting up Genesis as a colossal background threat watching and waiting with growing interest. I really, really hope they aren't thinking what I think they're thinking. The fact that they're even holding the door open for this route is pretty scary.

There isn't a good reason in the world for them to keep after this 13-year old game, but there are a whole lot of good reasons not to.

I have mixed feelings about FFVII being remade, while I would LOVE to see it with the latest and greatest graphics, I would desire for them to keep the ORIGINAL turn-based game play since that is what what kind of makes the game a classic. While I haven't seen the new XIII style game play, I'm still iffy on the whole thing.

Chances are, if it did come out, it would be on a system I just happen to not own. =_=

They have been teasing for years ever since that little clip trailer came out. They have, however, released the original for download for the ps3 and psp so they are at least trying to keep it alive in some form. As for remakes of the old FF games before VII I am all for that.
Buy them all :p
Then you're sorted!
I hope they do re-make it.
I look forward to it :p
That's great and all for people who don't need to make car payments, phone payments, pay rent, buy food etc... <_<

Why is everyone so sure that a FF7 remake is a golden ticket? Is there REALLY that much demand for a remake of this game? I'm not trying to put the game down (personally I found FFVIII to be better but whatever) but to me a game should only be remade if the original version is very rare or hard to find.
Do not underestimate the power of nostalgia to get people to buy games. Mega Man 9 and 10 were purposefully nostalgic. The upcoming Sonic 4 is purposefully also. Heck, Nintendo survived to this day because of nostalgia. There are enough people out there deluded enough to think that the good old days were good instead of just old.

Even though the games in the series were of a middling quality, average to good, the compilation of Final Fantasy VII series did well enough that Square Enix is considering adding more chapters to it.

There are enough people that want to play it again with the updated graphics of this or the next gen home console. I would love to see them come up with a better script that makes more sense.

It is not going to get made because it starts off with an act of terrorism. Despite how we try to spin it, AVALANCHE purposefully went after a civilian compound instead of restricting themselves to Shin'Ra military efforts.

it is more likely that we see a Final Fantasy VIII or IX modernization before we see a VII anytime soon.
Yeah but Mega Man and Sonic don't count because those are brand new games that use a classic style. If they remade FFVII it would HAVE to be a basic carbon-copy of the original with better visuals and sounds, but retaining all the same plot and everything else. And I'm sure even if they had good voice acting people would ***** that the original was better because it had text instead of voices..

Given the fact that this game can probably be picked up at most used game stores and that it runs on PS1-PS3 AND considering you can download the game via PSN, I think that nearly all the people who want this game or wanted to play it have done so. I don't see tons of people paying $60 for a remake with better graphics and sound when they can get the proven original for only $10, or in my case, pay nothing as I still have my original PS1 version.
The game regurly sells for $60 in used game stores and hundreds on Ebay.

Every gamer is either a follower, or part of the crowd who deemed the game awesome.

Final Fantasy Fans are rabid. They'll buy anything.

It is certainly a golden ticket.
Yeah I looked on eBay and while the price is high, it doesn't seem as though many people are biting. And who the hell is going to buy 1 disc of a 3 disc game? And the price of 1 disc is usually higher than if you got the ENTIRE game on PSN! But if people are willing to throw down $50+ for essentially 3 discs and some plastic, I may have to put my copy up on eBay.

I remember playing FFVII back when i was a kid on my PC(I was to poor to buy a console then). I remember thinking, holy shit this game is the best damn game ever.

Flash forward to about four or five months ago. I find out that FFVII is on the PSN. I couldn't run down to EB fast enough to buy PSN card to purchase the game. I eagerly sat downloading the game waiting to play it. Thinking of all the awesome memories of playing the game i had anddddd....

Nothing. I played it and suddenly i just did not have as much fun with it as i imagined. I beat it when i was younger but now i just couldn't finish it. Oddly enough i can still play through FFVI and FFX fine and enjoy it all the way through.

The thing is FFVII was huge when it came out. It was final fantasies first step into a 3d game. It blew peoples minds. Honestly though its kinda boring.

Truthfully it IS overrated. Which makes me sad because I think FFVI was the crowning achievement of the series. FFV has a lot of fond memories and FFX takes the third place stance. 8 was boring, and nine.... Nine i can't seem to find a non buggy copy of it. I have bought three separate versions and all of them glitch out during fmv's.

I kinda hope they don't remake it. Any of them. I just want them to release Six on the PSN so i can put it on my PsP.

Well, the new FFVII games have actually had some very good voice actors. If they did remade it, they would have to keep the original style and hopefully get the actors who have been doing the movie and the Kingdom Hearts cross over characters.

I actually wouldn't mind them remaking FF8 simply because I never have played it before and would love to experience it along with FF9 in the newer graphics. I have a feeling FF7 will not being dying off any time soon so perhaps what they do in the future will be interesting to see. Perhaps they will leave off what happened at the end of Crisis Core to just be picked up from the very original.
