But I have to take a bit of umbrage with the second half of that statement. Hey Mr. Kato, have you seen how well Nintendo's hardware has been selling this generation? It's not so much digging its own grave as it is lining its own bed - with hundred-dollar bills.

This man is an idiot. Why are we paying attention to what he said? So he wrote FF7. Whoop-dee-fucking-do. That gives him no authority when it comes to business projections.

Nintendo does have an enemy in Apple, but just like they always have, Nintendo will come out better for the competition. They did it with Sega, and they've only grown exponentially since then.
Yeah you summed it up pretty well. The iPad is clearly a retarded product, though the 3DS is equally as retarded.
Puh-lease. Smoother graphics then the PSP, allowing Graphic Hores and players alike to enjoy the view.

Optional 3D you can use or turn off, while 3D's big not to mention the competition's 3D cost way more and needs glasses

Nintendo's huge line-up of games for it

The abillity to use the Virtual Console to access ever Nintendo game(excluding Wii) ensures plenty of nostalgia power.

Not to mention many more functions.

This thing's pretty good at being a successor
-Gives new features the old models don't have
-Access to an even larger library
-Refined graphics
-A camera to appeal to more casual non-gamer audiences who wanna mess around
-And a big list of games coming out for the 3DS that lots of people will want to play
Yes that's a list of things I can expect from a product I already thought was shit to begin with and, having read this, still think it is a shit product. Go Nintendo defence force!
XD nice are you talking about the 3ds or nintendo in general?

I dont think he meant that the DS and Wii are a waste of money, I thnk what he means is that they dragged themselves full on into the casual game market and have left very little room to for anything else. Guess what Apple does. They do casual games like its their business (which it is), the point being that they do them very well. Nintendo has trapped itself in the market where its competitor is the strongest, and where most of the innovation is moving against them. I dont listen to Yahtzee all that much, but I think he was very correct when he said that the App market is where the innovation is, and Nintendo cant get in on that. SO they basically have to fight the entire App market to maintain control of the handheld/casual market.

I disagree massively. Apple products are vastly too expensive to hold dominance over the market. Nintendo makes things at a reasonable price that younger people, the real core of the handheld market, has more of a hope of getting. No 15 year old wanting a handheld console is going to get an iPhone, much less an iPad, be realistic.
Really? The iPod Touch is 230$. That's pretty darn cheap for doing what it does.

EDIT: Also, haters gonna hate. This forum loves to bash Apple and America. Bigots. (Not referring to you, TheRightToArmBears)

Nintendo have made good things and will in the future, I own a DS myself and I kind of want a DSXL (the tiny screen really wrecks my head) but 3D will never be a thing I will desire. I play Professor Layton 3D will not suddenly make me NEED the new one when I know I can just get it when i want with the insane mark up.

The dude wrote FFVII, which I think is proof enough he has the mentality of a high schooler at best. The iPad isn't a handheld gaming system. It's a luxury sub-laptop tablet. Totally different markets. How well the iPad does and how well the DS do have nothing to do with each other, anymore than the success of netbooks and the success of the DS do.
Oh let's put this iPad in my pocket... woops, this doesn't fit in my pocket. You're completely right. The iPad isn't a handheld, the iPhone is an overpriced phone.

I work for a DS game developer and agree with what he said. The iPhone is catching up more quickly in the games department than Nintendo will let on, plus it has got the superior distribution system. As it stands, the DS market is completely messed up due to the end of the casual games bubble that fueled it (at least in continental Europe) for the past few years. The DSi is a pointless gimmick that won't catch on, and the only thing that's going to save Nintendo is a better online platform.

The only game on my phone that I can't get on my DS thats worth playing is Plants Vs Zombies, and thats available on PC.

Unless some huge revolution happens in gaming in the apt store I dunno.

Also I don't know about the ipad Or itouch but the iphone has an abysmal battery life.
Just throwing it out there, but Plants vs Zombies is available on the DS both as a DSiWare download and a physical purchase.

Save Nintendo? Friend, the DS is the second best selling system of all time and indisputably the best selling system this gen, EVERYWHERE. Give it a year or two, and it'll be the top selling system of all time, muscling the PS2 out of that spot.

Meanwhile Apple just releases incredibly overpriced system after overpriced system that are terrible for playing any REAL games on. If Nintendo is threatened by CRapple then I'm afraid all of core gaming is pretty much fucked as well.

i don't think they will fail quickly, but with the 3DS having a underwelming launch met with a meh who cares attitude, their days of being king are not looking secure. i think they'll remain a mainstay for years to come, but it won't be with the total fear and respect as before.
