Ever get these moments where you find a character that alot of people seems to dislike, and enjoy mocking or even demonizing even when you yourself find nothing inherently bad or stupid about them?

Well, brace yourself for the chance that you might jump out of your skin or spit out whatever beverage you happen to be drinking, 'cause I have some characters I like that you probably don't;

Princess Celestia and Rarity from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

In Celestia's case, I hardly even understand half the hate she seems to get, particularly from a good portion of the fanbase.

I think only the 'Trollestia' stuff is the only thing I can sort of understand, I know it comes from how Celestia has been seen having a mischievous side to her, as well as her 'Trickster Mentor' way of doing things. But I don't think that's any reason to mark her with the personality of an internet troll.

No one I know has ever called Ms. Frizzle from Magic School bus a troll, or even Willy Wonka. And even someone did, clearly none of them have gotten the same sort of mean-spirited hatred from people that Celestia seems to have gotten. So why is Celestia getting this sort of hate when we've seen characters with similar traits in other media that get none?

And what's up with people saying she's a tyrant? if you watched the show, you'd know she's done absolutely NOTHING tyranical or evil, she in fact gets righteously pissed when she sees someone being evil.

Now in Rarity's case, I can at least understand why some people dislike her, sometimes she makes mistakes, sometimes she doesn't always do the right thing, sometimes her focus on detail can go overboard.

Yet, despite all that, she's actually one of a my favorite characters in MLP:FiM.

To me, she's likeable in the sense that she's nice, classy, and (hence her Element) generous while also often prone to making mistakes and occasionally giving in to her vices, which to me makes her one of the most three-dimensional and identifiable of the entire show's cast. We can relate to being, or wanting to be good people yet still encounter moments that put us into serious temptation or test our patience to our limits, and I can't think of a better character than Rarity to spotlight what it means to be in those situations.

And what I think quite a few people like to forget is that Rarity at times does, I repeat, DOES learn from her mistakes and frequently (if not always) goes out of her way to make amends when the chance arises.

With that said, what characters do you like that get considerable amounts of hate?

Final Fantasy games seem to have plenty of characters people dislike.

For me, I liked Cait Sith from Final Fantasy VII. Sure, he does backstab you at one point in the game, but he makes up for it later on. Also, it's a robot cat with a crown and cape riding around on a giant moogle. That's friggen awesome.

Also, Quina from FFIX. Yes, in the grand scheme of things, s/he isn't really important to the story, but s/he does provide some nice comic relief and is probably one of my favorite party members thanks to his blue magic.

Also this scene:

ViviXQuina forever! :D

Well, I really, really like King Henselt in The Witcher 2. He is one of my favourite characters in the game. However, I can understand why others hate him. Strong but ruthless kings who aren't afraid to get their hands dirty is a character story that most people probably don't like. I do though. I find him a great, if flawed, character, that was written, acted and is generally interesting. (He also looks badass)

Well, mine can probably be guessed.

Yep, it's Shinji Ikari from Neon Genesis Evangelion. Probably the most hated character in anime history. Now, I won't try and argue the general negative opinion people have of Shinji, because they're right - He is a whiny little fuck up. And oddly enough that's exactly why I like him so. He's like a lab rat of the powers that be, and I enjoy watching him squirm and suffer in their maze.

Fucking Moira from Fallout 3. She was charming and cute and nowhere near annoying kthxbai.

Oh and Mu-12. She gets a lot of hate because her outfit is... Unique shall we say?

Now I am working on a theory as to why the hell ArcSys made her outfit so weird, probably a satire of other female anime tropes where women wear less the more powerful they are so they took that to the logical extreme. BlazBlue is both a satire and celebrate of all the typical anime tropes after all.

Or y'know, ArcSys was fucking around when they sat down to design her. That's equally if not more likely

Regardless she's my bestest and most favourite character in the game because lol zoning. I play full guns Mu online and it must piss so many people off. No touching the Mu-12 please, I insist. I'm getting better at holding all Ragnas at arms length. It's so satisfying when he just dies to guns while barely scratching you.

But Rarity is best pony. This isn't even up for debate, it's just fact!

OT: I guess the first character that springs to mind is Claptrap. I know a lot of people find him annoying but I just think he's adorable and I feel really sorry for him.

I've played the 'Claptrap's Birthday Bash' mission god knows how many times. stil cri evry tiem ;_;

Erghh...Lemongrab I guess?
Most people seem to absolutely hate him, and I get that he's very intentionally obnoxious, but his ridiculousness is just great.
I mean c'mon, he has a (lemon shaped) heart too!

Small world, I like her too!

but then, given she's in a Bethesda sandbox, I think I probably like anyone that doesn't share the same voice actor as around dozen other characters.

Nathan Drake. Yeah he's smug, but I find it endearing. He's got a lot of personality if nothing else.
Also, I don't know if he's unpopular, but I'm going to assume he is because he's in a Final Fantasy game: Noel Kreiss. He's confident yet soft-spoken, he's strong and dependable, but not violent. And he just seems like the kind of guy you could just have a conversation with.

To add to that, I like the Japanese voice of Noel Vermillion a lot. I know people generally either hate or love noel with a passion but a lot of them don't seem to like the Japanese voice. I find Koudou-san to be perfectly fine: gets the job done and adds to her "trying hard but messing up" personality

P.S. Mu is actually a mid tier character if i recall, her guns are annoying and do damage but you must be careful with positioning in order to trap them and you have to take into account how the laser will bounce with tosuka blade or the distortion version. In addition, approaching by air will enable blocking to be easier. Personally, i'm interested to see how kagura mutsuki plays out, the stance style is interesting to say the least

Well Vanille was my favourite character in Final Fantasy XIII, despite most of the plot being her fault...

Likewise, though I also found the perky/cloud cuckoolanders to be my favourite characters in FF games, like Rikku and Selphie. I'm not sure what that says about me.

I really stay out of touch of official tier lists when it comes to fighting games, with the exception of UMVC3 because the top tiers are so goddamn obvious and godlike it's hard to not immediately notice them. I mean apparently Elisabeth is absolute Garbage Tier in Persona 4 Arena and is by far the worst character in the game. I still find her a damn pain regardless.

In BB, all I know is I cannot deal with either Tager or Arakune ever. Ragna is an annoying **** with Jin not too far behind but I can deal with them generally. However, if I get Astral'd by Hakumen one more fucking time I will flip my shit so hard...

My pro Mu strat is spam Arrows of Heaven as well as placing guns. Then concentrate ALL efforts on your spacing, I can do the standard Mu combos nearish the corner but they can and will pop up and be right in your face afterwards and that extra damage is not worth ruining your spacing. You have three pushback moves, forward heavy, Sword of Decimation and Origins as a final line of defense. Literally standing heavy into forward heavy gives you room for just more guns. And like everything she has can be safely cancelled (on block) into, you guessed it, more guns.

Oh and her command overhead cancels right into super. Lololololololol

Also you cannot stop Divine Light of Punishment from bouncing and homing in once it comes out so I just use it to make my re-position dashes safer

I am a right arsehole online I admit :3

I guess that would be Akainu from One Piece but I'm not too sure how much hate he recived.
I can assume people hate him for killing Ace which I know there are people who loved Ace.
Sure he as that absolute "extreme justice" mindset and pretty much show no mercy except for that one time but he is just so awesome in a merciless sort of way (he go out full force against people who can't stand a chance against him). Also he has a kick ass devil fruit power too.

Ditto. Rikku and Vanille were my two favorite characters from their games. I like the perky, upbeat ones.

The biggest one for me is Cyclops, though. He really got dragged down in the 80s and 90s as the "boring, stick in the mud" counterpart to Wolverine, and that bothers me, because he is in every single way a better character. Or, at least, he was until X-Men started getting writers that were on the "Cyclops is boring" bandwagon, so they started writing him that way. :(
