Ever get these moments where you find a character that alot of people seems to dislike, and enjoy mocking or even demonizing even when you yourself find nothing inherently bad or stupid about them?
Well, brace yourself for the chance that you might jump out of your skin or spit out whatever beverage you happen to be drinking, 'cause I have some characters I like that you probably don't;
Princess Celestia and Rarity from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
In Celestia's case, I hardly even understand half the hate she seems to get, particularly from a good portion of the fanbase.
I think only the 'Trollestia' stuff is the only thing I can sort of understand, I know it comes from how Celestia has been seen having a mischievous side to her, as well as her 'Trickster Mentor' way of doing things. But I don't think that's any reason to mark her with the personality of an internet troll.
No one I know has ever called Ms. Frizzle from Magic School bus a troll, or even Willy Wonka. And even someone did, clearly none of them have gotten the same sort of mean-spirited hatred from people that Celestia seems to have gotten. So why is Celestia getting this sort of hate when we've seen characters with similar traits in other media that get none?
And what's up with people saying she's a tyrant? if you watched the show, you'd know she's done absolutely NOTHING tyranical or evil, she in fact gets righteously pissed when she sees someone being evil.
Now in Rarity's case, I can at least understand why some people dislike her, sometimes she makes mistakes, sometimes she doesn't always do the right thing, sometimes her focus on detail can go overboard.
Yet, despite all that, she's actually one of a my favorite characters in MLP:FiM.
To me, she's likeable in the sense that she's nice, classy, and (hence her Element) generous while also often prone to making mistakes and occasionally giving in to her vices, which to me makes her one of the most three-dimensional and identifiable of the entire show's cast. We can relate to being, or wanting to be good people yet still encounter moments that put us into serious temptation or test our patience to our limits, and I can't think of a better character than Rarity to spotlight what it means to be in those situations.
And what I think quite a few people like to forget is that Rarity at times does, I repeat, DOES learn from her mistakes and frequently (if not always) goes out of her way to make amends when the chance arises.
With that said, what characters do you like that get considerable amounts of hate?
