Sorry there's so many- I went a little overboard...

------

In Blood+ (the anime) when...

Pretty much -all- of the Schiff (or Sif, whatever.) die- except for John. Nobody cared about John; not even me. Even the deaths of the Asian wonder-twins made me more upset. In addition, Solomon dying seemed really pointless, and the way he died pretty much set my piss to a boil.

In Full Metal Alchemist (the anime) when...

Maes Hughes died. I mean, seriously- not only was he the lovable (albeit irritating) family-man, but he got shot and killed by an imitation of his wife. That's just not fair.

In The Green Mile (Wow, going from two animated shows to a novel? What a swap!) when...

John Coffey and Delacroix were executed. As to why their deaths upset me, there just seemed a measure of injustice in both. For John it was obvious- he died for a crime that he did not commit. And with Delacroix, though he probably deserved to die like that, I grew to love him as a character and was very saddened by the whole being... melted thing. (Also, Mr. Jingles the mouse when he got stomped by Percy- but then John brought him back to life, so it was all good.)

In A Game of Thrones (Another great novel that nobody seems to have heard of...) when...

Eddard Stark gets beheaded. And not only was he beheaded by that little Lannister monstrosity, but it was with his own sword. Talk about a bite in the rear.

In Silent Hill 2 when...

James kills himself in the Bad Ending (or the In Water ending, whatever). I knew about that ending and strived like heck not to get it, but I got it anyway- and that coupled with the fact that I adore James Sunderland made it all too bad of a thing.

In Call of Duty 4 (I think it's 4, at least...) when...

Gaz dies. I didn't actually see him die, but after watching my cousin playing and commenting about how much I loved Gaz, he promptly informed me that he gets shot. And damnit, though I didn't know his character for that long, I loved the man.

And finally, in the Half-Life series when...

Any of the little liberation soldiers that decide to hop on the Freeman bandwagon died. I don't know why, but it really busted me up to see my little squadlings bite the dust- especially when it was my fault as the player. I literally replayed entire sections of levels just to protect them.

And also- courtesy of that moron who didn't put Eli Vance's death in spoiler tags- I'm pretty upset over that now, too. I would rather have seen for myself... -is on the last leg of the current Half-Life game and wasn't aware-

Oh, and from Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, when...

Pelleas dies. I mean, COME ON! It was for NOTHING. And you can be damn sure that I -will- go back and play through the game just to save him. Poor baby.

Plus, any time any of my units died in battle. Baww.

Everyone, especially Toboe

Sadistic bastards.

Eiichiro Oda was right when he said that characters don't need to be killed to create drama.
*Cries* I got so pissed right at the end.

Also if people watch Samurai 7 I'm sure they'll know how I feel particularly

when the noob samurai on their team accidentally shot Kyozo. And Heihachi!!! WHY?!!

Rei - Just when I thought Kenshiro finally has an ally and a friend to kick and explode asses with he gets to die a painful death after three days, not before redeeming Mamiya's honour by killing Juda.

Raoh - After you understand his motives the guy really grows on you, and yet has to meet the inevitable demise by the hero. I literally stopped reading/watching after he died.

The Griffith Army - I don't really need to say much here.

General Leo - Why God damn it, he was awesome!

Everyone on Koholint Island - I don't think you can say they're alive but I was really peeved at what happened after you beat the game.

Jess - Back when I played this the first time years ago not only it made me mad but bawl too.

OPTIMUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUS. I know they brought him back and he was awesome when he had all those bits from the old guy on him, but he just bitchslapped Megatron and rips The Fallen's face off (Again, awesome) then that was it, I was expecting an awesome battle but it was like two minutes, that probably angered me more than his death.
Really I wanted to laugh when he went down like a *****, but by that point I had already been sucked out of that particular movie, so I had no attachment to the characters.

Chopper died a hero, I shall not forget him. He saved the people of that city by sacrificing himself, and it sucked he had to crash into the evacuated stadium as well.

I was gutted after that ending. For such a madcap, fun game, it left you feeling so hollow, even with the Clockwork Orange homage.

EDIT:

<spoiler=I'd also like to nominate Cowboy Bebop>for Spike's death in the final episode. It's the closest I've ever been to tears over something completely fictional, its the only anime series that I liked and the ending was wonderfully heart crushing.

Any death in a JRPG considering I have items [i/]that REVIVE people[/i].
I think the games disregard that because, as demonstrated in Final Fantasy, you only get KO'd in battle and it schizophrenically kicks in and fades between battles.

Back on topic: Myself in Neverwinter Nights 2's ending. So fucking pointless and an absolute waste of characterization of all the other companions.

Optimus Prime and Starscream

Because I watched STIV before II Iknew that Spock would come back, but I hated the way they Data killed in Nemesis.

Grovyle in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2 and Lucario in "his" movie. And now go out and laugh at me ;)

All the three Hunters seem wasted, but in Rundas I saw the most potential for an additional main character in the Metroid universe. I hope we can see him Project M again

I am out of time now, more follows...

Shinji
from Persona 3... I had been using (him/her) in my party for a good while when it happened. I could at least rationalize it, though, by the line of thought that when it isn't the Dark Hour all Persona-users are just normal people, but then, later
that perfectly plausable theory goes to hell when Junpei dies!(Even though it was just for a second.)
Well, there's actually a reason for that...
[spoiler/]Chidori had the power to put her life into the others, and thus could cure death not just unconsciousness like Yukari's semarecarm. Shinji thus could not by saved because Chidori wasn't going to lay down her life for him, but she did for Junpei, and that's why he lived.

Although granted, after Shinji's death I was afraid as fuck to put too much training into one person (like I did with Shinji) because I thought they would get capped.[/spoiler]
