It's pretty much what you think it is. Evil Nazis hiding down at the center of the earth, and being evil and such.

It wasn't an mistake to attack Russia. Russia would have attacked sooner or later, and the Germans caught them in disarray by attacking sooner. It was however a grave mistake to not get the hell out as soon as the first snowflake fell.

The movie suggested they were going to use it in battle, going off Biblical accounts of armies incinerating all their foes and basically being invincible as long as they had the Ark with them.

Didn't turn out like they thought.
