I've never been robbed and don't plan on it anytime soon.

Now, I'm a dreamer. I've always been slightly fascinated with the idea of being able to reasonably fight another man in a real life scenario, outside of grade school, but frankly, I'm not a fan of actually fighting. I typically try to reason with people and use logic, when things get a bit rough. However, when I try to do that people don't seem to take me seriously. So the idea of just going "Fuck all" and tearing them apart, is always something lingering in the back of my mind. I try not to lash out until they do first, but one can only take so much BS before they want to snap at the tiniest of aggression. Still I try to be reasonable, maybe make a few jokes, etc.

You did the smart thing, you're not a coward. It was only 10 quid. If it was me...I'd try to talk him out of, tell him to go elsewhere, try to be a bit nice to him since he must be in a bit of pickle, but in the end, unless he tried to get too aggressive with me, I'd just give him the money and get on with my life. It doesn't sound like he was too rough, anyway. Yeah, I'd feel a bit violated and like a chump, but whatever. I'm okay, I can go home to my bed, television, internet, etc meanwhile the guy who robbed is reveling over the high point of his day: 10 quid.

Hate to beat a dead horse. But have you considered buying a gun.

Oh, you're British? Well, then forget it.

Where i grew up in the UK hearing someone got robbed or having a guy try to rob you wasn't a rare thing .. first few times i was quite young and got robbed by a few guys quite easily ... my mum started taking me to boxing classes and i started making friends.

By the time i was 15 anyone who ever tried to rob me would get a headbutt followed by a flurry of punches, then i'd call my boys down and search the area for them. I'd get a little bruised up but it's better than handing over my stuff to some dikhead who thinks i'm an easy target. i've been rushed but i haven't been robbed since i was 15.

I'm sorry but I just have to call this cowardly. I guess I just have too much pride because I would rather take an asswhoopen rather than get robbed, punked, or "bitched".

Many people are saying you did the smart thing, and while thats's true you also chose the most cowardly option point blank period. And if your okay with that then that's you, but I personally would've hated myself for it. I've been in situations where I was confronted by two guys at once and I even in a situation where I fought a man who was easily twice my size and I never backed down. The only way he would've got me to back down was if he pulled a gun.

OP in all honesty I would have respected you if you made this thread talking about how you got beaten up by an unarmed male trying to rob you, but instead you get no respect from me. I know losing respect from some random guy on the internet doesn't mean shit to you, but damn man, you acted like a coward.

I once got robbed by a guy while walking home from school. He told me he had a knife in his backpack and told me to hand over my phone (/cuz every highschool girl has a phone/). I gave him my phone and he ran off somewhere. he probably didnt notice the giant crack in the screen and the abcence of batteries until later....

in your situation i would have honestly HONESTLY accidentally hit him with my bike by accident before he asked for my belongings because i am that bad at riding a bike. even if i was good at riding a bike, "fuck you, im not gonna swerve just cuz your a giant prat, jumping out at me and all."

For 10 pounds you did the right thing. It's not worth the pain and hastle of fighting a guy taller and older than you. You're not a coward, just smart. ;)

But he was on a bike, which is specifically designed to keep you some distance off the ground.

And thats fine. I think a coward is looking at the things you fear, deciding that to face those fears is the right thing because those things mean something to you and then running anyway. I think fighting for 10 quid isnt really the right thing to do in a dark ally infamous for crime isnt on my list of "things worth fighting for".

I held my mothers body while she bled over the carpet and helped perform first aid while an ambulance arrived once. Cracked her skull open, unconcious, middle of the night fell down the stairs hard and smashed her head on the bottom. Being a coward is running from that. Not handing 10 quid over in an ally to ensure you are not stabbed or beaten up. Or have your bike taken. I stand for what i think is worth fighting for every damn time. And dont you think other wise. I dont think 10 quid is worth fighting for. Im not proud persay of that decision. But i damn well stand by it. I did what i thought was safest and would get me home fastest losing the least amount of possessions. And i think i did damn well. Id do it again if i had another shot.

Doubt my story if you will. I know im not a coward. I know that when crunch time arrives and something i love is in danger ill fight tooth and nail for it. Not for 10 quid. Thats bullshit bravado.

The OP is a coward he basically let someone take his money and he wasn't even threatened. Hell I'd fight 50 men and probably die but I'd be living by my code and if I can't do that I don't wish to live. I won't let people walk over me nor will I tolerate the attempted theft of my property.

Well done, you're already proving not to be a moron, so that leaves..........
Don't you think if I was lying I would have made it sound a bit better?
And risk potential believers? Nawww.

Saying you stood up to 6 armed robbers and got an ass whupping makes you sound brave.

Saying you stood up to 6 armed robbers and tanned their arses makes you sound like Bruce Lee.

Even people less cynical than I wouldn't believe that.

But seriously now, this is getting pointless. You either did do this, in which case I think you're incredible foolish. Or you didn't and you were looking for some attention. Which I begrudgingly admit to giving.

Either way, neither of us are going to budge on this. I don't believe you, you're adamant it happened. Let's just leave it at that and stop cluttering up this guys thread.

Well, exactly. If I were going to lie I would make myself sound like Bruce Lee because the people who did believe the lie would think I was. But saying I stood up to six men is just shining light on the type of person I am. Nobody can stand up to six men and nobody isn't going to be afraid. I was afraid. I'm afraid every time I fight, I'm afraid every time I'm in a wall of death at a concert but I don't let my fear determine what I do, is not being controlled by fear hard to believe?

I was nearly robbed once, a few house moves ago. I caught some teenager in our house trying to make off with my grama's (completely useless) balance book.

Instead of thinking I was being robbed, I thought my brother had invited one of his friends over at the crack of dawn, as he often did.

So I walked toward him. "Are you one of Jerry's friends?"

The kid nearly pissed himself, slowly placed the balance book on the dining table, slowly backed out to the back patio, & he was gone.

Don't know how he got in (or out) in the first place; The back yard fence is like 10ft high & the gates can only be opened from the back yard.

We found out that the would-be-thief was the visiting grandson of our next door neighbor. That was a really shitty neighborhood, I could tell you stories......Thank gawd we rent; it's so easy to just move without waiting for the next residents to move in.

Have you ever been robbed? And honestly. HONESTLY. In any situation like mine, without even a visible weapon, any threats and no number advantage would you fight a man slightly taller than you one on one for 10 pounds? Was what i did cowardly? I honestly dont know what to think here. Im not angry at all about the 10 pounds, more about the outrage of what happened. Im 17. I guess hes about 20-25.
No I have never been robbed, but I have to say no amount of money is worth getting shot/stabbed/beat up over. Its a very different story if harm was going to come to me if I gave up the money or not in that case I'd put up a fight. Your actions weren't cowardly in the least in my opinion.

I... Buh.... Th.... STOP USING LOGIC TO CRUSH MY DREAMS!
It's weird, I've felt the kind of tiredness that'll stop a man from doing anything but walking (Duke of Edinburgh hiking is a total *****) but I seem to believe that in a fight, I'd never be able to give up thanks to... I don't know, it just never really seems an option for me.

Way to invalidate your opinion by spouting random "honor code" bullcrap after a fair opinion. Its fine to call me a coward. Feel free. Id fight damn hard for things i love and for things that matter to me. Ten quid? Not really. Not at all. I couldnt give less of a shit. To be a coward is to let the things you love be taken away. To be a smart man is to let go of the things you know wont hurt you if they are taken. I know ill fight for things that matter. You can die for 10 pounds. I wont. Im living to fight a battle worth fighting.

I was robbed once. Six men with knives jumped me and I still fought...i got my ass kicked but I still fought, why? Because I'd rather go through life knowing I fought and failed than wondering if I could have won. Also I'd rather die than run ( and yes, I know someone is eventually going to say "your an idiot because so and so" or something to that effect, well...good for you for believing that, I believe there is a special circle of hell reserved for cowards.(there's a difference between being scared and being a coward. Being scared is when someone holds a gun to you and asks to give him your money. Being a coward is that same guy without a gun who asks you to give him all your money, prompting you to comply and run))
Pics or it didn't happen.

No, seriously. I don't believe a single word of what you just said and I put £50 on it being macho posturing.
So it's normal for people to take pictures of themselves after they were beaten?

No, you have self preservation instincts. most people would roll over and prtoect themselves more then their possessions. so you did the right thing. Its better to let a person who can handle the situation in the right way (an officer of the law), then handle it yourself.

I kinda wish i had the luxury. But my family has a lot of ex-military, from each of teh five branches. And all taught me how to fight since I was four, saying i would need it one day to protect myself. I was always taught to approach the situation head on, to not back down, to not show weakness. Its not much of an option for me to not fight, cause if i go home and my family hears that I just rolled over, I'd get a rather severe beating and "reteaching" of some lessons. In my family, we have four rules:

No blood no tears

No scar no excuse

If you get into a fight, either go down fighting, or walk out winning

If you die, make sure you take someone with you*
*amended: or at least leave them something to remember you by.

Now of course we'd be insane to enforce all of those, and while no one in my family wants another to die, for some reason we like to think its better if you died fighting or of old age then died like a puss.

.....

However, I usually dont get messed with anymore. Ever since... Oh, had to have been since November of last year (I got mugged and shamefully lost), i've been carrying a rather large and noticable knife that once you see, you have some second thoughts about pissing with the person carrying it.
