Wow there's a Chronicles of Narnia Books? How come I didn't know about this?

Not that I like it or anything (shifty eyes).
I...yes, there are Narnia books. They're a lot more overtly Christianising - Aslan is considerably more of a Jesus figure. They're children's books, which isn't to say they're not worth reading, but know what to expect.

OT: Lord of the Rings. The books aren't great. I know, foundation of modern fantasy etc., but the dialogue is terrible, the descriptions are way too detailed, and the less said about the character depth and development the better.

Haha, good one.

Oh, you're serious?

To be honest, anything based of an original is going to be worse. Why? Because people expect their interpretation of the book to be represented in the film. Not going to happen.

I really hope this is sarcastic; it's so hard to tell on the 'net.
No, it wasn't sarcasm. I actually didn't know about the books.
I can understand the others perhaps (they seem to be far less popular), but I can't believe you never knew The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe was a book.

I don't particularly like them, but still - everyone knows about them!

I haven't seen it, but I'm guessing "Where the Wild Things Are" appeals to a wider audience than the book intended. (obviously)

I preferred the jurassic park films to their book counterparts. For the first book seemed to have awkward pacing near the end and suffered from an odd structure whereas i felt the film worked quite nicely. I did, however, enjoy the build up of tension and the explanation of the park a lot more in the book so maybe it should be a tie.

The second book however seemed to try too hard to fit in, a character that died in the first book decided to come back to life because his character was in the film sequel. This seems kinda dumb

Also Die hard. I haven't actually read the book it was based off but, well.... It's DIE HARD!

Jurassic Park. I was very dissapointed with the book version of that. I felt some of the actions in it, such as velociraptors wiping their mouths with their arms to remove blood or chewing through metal bars to get at humans was simply a little bit too human for my tastes. It was cool in the film how they could open doors, but in the book those actions came across as forced and unnatural. The film captured the amazement of dinosaurs being alive again so much more than the book, and for that I'll always love the film more.

Planet of the Apes. The book is about Marty Stu space marine wowing the backwards-thinking apes in a satire of "traditional" society and it's contradictions. Comes off as very preachy.

Just about any adaptation of a Dean Koontz book is better than reading an actual Dean Koontz book.

Do you just go onto every thread hatin' on Harry Potter books? How about you actually read them. If you think HP movies are good then you have no appreciation for good writing.

LOTR are the only example of movies better than the books that I can think of, I was tempted to say Jurassic Park, but the original novel is substantially better than the film (film is still awesome).

Years ago, I would have raged over that.

But recently, I tried to read 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe' and.. I couldn't. It was just too childish a style for me to be able to read and to still enjoy.
Not saying the books aren't great, I just can't get myself to read them again. It seriously felt like a chore.

So I'm happy about the movies. They're amazing to watch, and I remember just enough about the books to be able to nitpick and enjoy the parts they've done justice, and the new bits they've added.

The Narnia books could have been brilliant masterpieces had they been written for older audiences. Good characters [as the series went on], good development of countries and setting, pretty decent plots. Age range should have just been bumped up a decade. The only one I could bother reading now are Prince Caspian, The Horse and His Boy, and The Last Battle.
Meh, maybe scratch the first one.

twilight movie was worse (books are great and not just for screaming horny women) and i loved the books
so was harry potter, book is x100000 better and the recent movie missed a crucial plot point for no.7, not to mention left out a huge fight scene and added one in(the f?) and has 0 sub plots.

on-topic,
the mist, beowulf, LotR, narnia, a series of unfortunate events
