We all know about Final Fantasy and its IMO overrated 7th game but I have to ask why exactly do/did people like that game. I just wanted to ask because I'm not a big fan of the game (but I don't hate it) and whenever I point out a flaw some one gets on my case about it. I know these people are just annoying @$$ fanboys/girls but there are people who aren't delusional that enjoy these games and I'd like to know why.

Do you want to know why people enjoy FF VII or FF in general?I really like FF (as a franchise) but FF VII is not one of my favourite FF games.

I enjoy JRPG's in general because sometimes they have good storys and a good game needs a good story. Maybe that's why I like FF.

JRPGS D:<

When it comes down to it, people enjoy them because they enjoy the stories. JRPGs really are just visual novels or mildly interactive novels, and that's fine. Personally, I find most the stories to be bland and uninteresting but I'm sure people out there think Dune is mindless hippie ranting and Lovecraft is just pretty sounding nothing.

When Final Fantasy became a Jrpg series, I had a hard time enjoying it. I do like the earlier games and Final Fantasy 8, because there was so much instant gratification:
*draws spells*
+2 SPR.
*takes other character's magic*
+20 SPR.

That, and it wasn't nearly as anime-ey as the other games.

I like final fantasy because:
-Normaly it has an understandable yet intresting story (even if it is completely off the wall sometimes)
-The cutscenes are normaly high tech and lovingly made
-Translation errors are rare
-Fun minigames (FFX I sometimes play purely for blitzball)
-Characters are normally well thought out (Red XIII and his dad, Yuna and knowing she was going to die but carrying on, Basch von Ronsenburg and his willingness to accept the blame)even if they follow a template

As for why I like FFVII? Chocobos, Golden Saucer and a massive twist-also Barret partly made that game for me.

I've never liked it much although I put the effort into completing it. I also find that people get very defensive about it, if I point out any flaw the response is usually "How can you say that?" Rather than any definitive positive points. I found the same attitude regarding Ocarina of time. I have nothing against people liking things that I don't but vehemently defending something because I've pointed out something I don't like is hardly necessary.

I believe you have hit the nail on the head here about why a lot of people dislike Final Fantasy.

Three easy steps to boost your tr00 kvlt gamer reputation:

1. diss JRPGS
2. diss the Final Fantasy series
3. diss Final Fantasy VII

Extra bonus points are awarded for saying, "I enjoyed the SNES Final Fantasy games but FFVII was worse than the holocaust".

Take the test! How cool are you?
I stand corrected; this gentleman here just hit the nail more accurately.

Understandable, since the first Dune novel was basically Paul trying to orient himself with his new prediction powers. It was primarily a statement about resources and planning. The Bene Gesserit somewhat represent the need for greater planning, through preparation over centuries and projects lasting many life times producing good things rather than quick fix solutions. The later books (God Emperor of Dune in particular) and the Golden Path are especially big representations of this.

Other than that, spice is a metaphor for oil and how our incredible dependence on it could spell disaster if we don't explore alternative fuel methods as at least a back up, as well as how our society's dependence on it makes it much easier to control us. He who controls the spice controls the universe and what not.

What about those of us that really don't like JRPGs and the FF series in general?

What's there to ask about? I enjoy Final Fantasy because it's fun, and that's what I seek to get out of my games. I also enjoy playing WoW so perhaps I'm one of those weirdos all the "cool" gamers don't like associating with.

I find the grind relaxing. I spend far too much time in my head and the grind lets me switch off my brain and do something mindless for a couple of hours. It's just another form of escapism for me.

A series that was around when I first got into gaming, grew up with me I guess so I tend to feel attached to the fella.

Such people cannot be allowed to exist.
You'll have to pry my dice from my cold, dead hands.
You say that like appreciating WRPGs and JRPGs are two mutually exclusive things.
