It had great immersion, the music, the world, Cloud, Aeris, the story - I didn't stand a chance.
I didn't liked Cloud. In my book he's probably one of the weakest caracthers in the FF series, the problem with him is that he's trying to pass the tough look but at the same time he's a emotional pussy, so basically I get mixed signals from him and get confused. Then I look at mommas boy Sephiroth and just melt.
I did look up a full game walk through of FF7 and got up to the whole Sephiroth thing and for the record i do like the motivation and the story but what do you mean and just melt (i mena is that good or bad)
I believe he is implying a mancrush and taking the mickey out of sep's cult following (at least thats the way I read it).

Can I rename Sephiroth to Oedipus?
How...how do you even spell that?!
What, Oedipus?

Eee-di(h)-puss.

Go read some Sophocles and edumacate yourself on classical plays. Oedipus the King and Antigone.

Appropriate enough. If Sephiroth is Oedipus does that make Zack Apollo and Cloud that one child of Apollo, Phaethon? And who would be Odysseus in this mash up, Cid? I mean, he does travel far away from his wife to fight and he seems to be a relatively smart guy. Plus he has a spear.

Heh this sounds like a funny little discovery.Who'd Zeus be then... if he even fits in in this collaboration.
The Lifestream, or perhaps Holy.

Hades would be Meteor.

Hojo, maybe. Or maybe he'd be Kronus, what with the whole getting dominated by his creations. Then again, maybe the good old Shinra president is Kronus and Hojo's still Zeus.

Well its not that bad in this case it's not like a heated argument about opinions and ideas it's more on the lines of sharing them.

I like them because they're quite simple games, in a way.
Meet characters, do mission, watch cut scenes, good ending.
I'm simple too, so that's fine by me.

In FFVII, once when either Jenova or Sephiroth is speaking, they spelt 'because' wrong.

Hojo would be Hephaestus in my opinion- God of technology, artisans and smiths and Jenova would have to be a titan of some sort.

You think she'd be Gaea or something like that? Or is that too over powered.

True, I had thought of Caith Sith as that but Caith Sith perhaps fits in better as Prometheus. Especially since he gets his stupid cat/moogle doll combo crushed.

The FF games and JRPGs in general are only fun if you look at them as a mix of RPG and book. Most people don't enjoy that because they want either something closer to A Tabletop (Which is good) Or something closer to A book (Which is also good) Personally I adore the happy medium of the two. Granted 7 is a bit overhyped though still good, 8 is horrid and 9 is UNDERhyped. But in the end its more a matter of the persons feelings about if they feel a good story is worth the other elements of a game that sometimes some people feel are lost. Then again some people can't appriciate the stories at all because They do tend to draw on japanese elements even if based more in western culture and Mythos such as 6 or 9.

Bottom line. Its usually fun to tweak job systems when applicable, get new moves or abilities when applicable and see a great story. Also there are those people who will say 'oh its a JRPG I hate it' to be cool, so yeah you have to consider them

What about the latest FF games (FFX and so on) what do you think of those because I hear a lot of people bash them.
FFX was awesome, wasn't a fan of how easy FFXII was. You set up your gambits correctly and you can just wander from one fight area to another, only using the move button and win every fight consistently.

I got the impression after playing FFXII that I had already seen all of the multiple storylines in the game before. If you were relatively new to the genre (and didn't know there was not only life but advanced civilization before FFVII)- you enjoyed XII. If you weren't, maybe you were like me and said (way too many times) "Yeah, this storyline is great, but I have seen it already".

I can tell you why I instantly fell in 'love' with FF7.
1. FF7, was THE best graphical game I had ever saw, when it came out. (mind you I didn't have anything that resembled a PC back then, I still had a comadore 64!)
2. FF7's cast was by far the most complex cast I had ever seen. They actually had a 'story' to them, and unlike FF6's 'shallow back story' in that, they had one, it was just very non-central to the story, or you didn't find out much about a persons backstory as it wasn't directly 'told' (Aka shadow & his possible daughter).
3. Aerith. Everyones loved Aerith, and every time I played that game, and Sepiroth killed Aerith, I shed a tear. It is the ONLY game that has ever gone so far as to make Me actually get attached to a character, and then have the main villian kill her and leaving you powerless to stop it. Sepiroth was the Villian you WANTED to get vengence for killing Aerith.

I have never played a game aside from FF7 that has actually made me get attached to a character, let alone make me Want to kill the badguy on an 'emotional level'.

Now, that doesnt mean that I think FF7 is the greatest game of all fucking time.
No, That is a tie beween Chrono Trigger, and FF6.
Kefka alone makes FF6 > FF7.
