Ehh, pretty much all the big-selling PS2 games are going to get re-released or re-mastered anyway. It's just a way to make money of the people who want to relive old games they enjoyed, but no longer have access to a PS2 or PS3 with backwards compatibility.
Was always a bit torn on FFX myself. I really did not like the art direction and especially disliked the character design, but the battle system was pretty interesting, and there was a couple good moments here and there. Kind of like FFVIII for me, really. I don't hate it, but I wouldn't call it "good". Other than a few memorable parts, they're kinda meh for me.
I honestly never understood the "They must remake FFVII!" campaign. Don't get me wrong, FFVII was a solid game, and one of the better ones, but it wasn't some perfect super-creation of a game. The story suffered from a few holes, the main villain was kinda simplistic and the ending was extremely unsatisfying. It was a very solid RPG though, with memorable characters and a place in history for its technical achievements at the time.
Really though... unless you, like, re-imagine a property, or look at it from a different angle, most remakes are kind of derivative, and a good chunk of them are nothing more than nostalgia-grabs. Honestly, with it taking Square 3-5 years to make a big-budget game these days, I'd rather have them focusing on new IP's, or new Final Fantasy games than on completely reconstructing a PS1 game on a current-gen console.
Let's be honest here too. If Advent Children, Before Crisis and Dirge of Cerberus are any indication, they'd probably just screw it up anyway. Turn it into a bunch of anime cliches and brooding.
I understand wanting older games to be remade. Hell, I'd LOVE to see Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger or The Legend of Dragoon get a next-gen remake, but with as long as it takes to make games, I'd rather encourage 3-5 years of creativity than reconstructing someone else's work.
