It's just another HD remaster, I don't know what the fuss is about. FFX is one of my favorite FF games, so I'm quite happy about it. I'd like them to do the same for FFXII. Man, I loved that game.

Personally, I don't care much about FFVII, but it would be nice of Squeenix to give the fans their much awaited remake.

To be honest i think 7 to 10 should be remade but 10 needs it the least, in all fairness the graphics even by todays standards still look nice. It's just a shame i won't be able to play it because i don't have a ps3.

Keeping in mind that I actually like FFX more than FF7 (though don't have a high opinion of either).

I think it's a slap in the face to revisit this title when the fans clearly want something else.

I personally don't what them to remake FF VII as Square-Enix will probably pollute it with the rubbish from the recent Final Fantasies. Though I do find strange that Sqaure-Enix it would cost too much to remake when they seem quite happy to throw tons of money at games like X-2 and XII-2.

I haven't liked any Final Fantasy game after 6 personally. 6 needs some love before 7.

It's already been pointed out that the upcoming version of FFX is a remaster rather than a remake, so there's no need for me to do that... Ehm... I'll buy it though. I enjoyed X on the PS2; though it's not 'the best' of the series, I still had fun playing it and some of the boss battles were great.

I'll be the first to admit that I would love an updated version of FFVII. One of my favourite games in the history of ever brought up to modern graphical standards? Oh yes, I'd play the socks off that. And there is a part of me that says "It's the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy this year, wouldn't it be brilliant if..."

BUT. It's not going to happen. I know and accept this. The financial cost, the time, the technical constraints. The impossibility of living up to the expectations of people... well, people like me, really. VII is a tricksy beast, in that it straddled the lines between 2D and 3D. The engine for it would have to be completely replaced, and the amount of work involved is prohibitive. Guy above is right - if it hadn't been for the tech demo all those years ago, people wouldn't necessarily be this antsy about a remake. But seeing that just made us want more.

I'll tell you a little story though. I went to a Distant Worlds concert last year (where an orchestra plays some of the music from the series) and at one point, the conductor was talking to the audience about how the upcoming year was going to be the big anniversary, and they'd be doing a special show and if there was anything we, the fans, wanted then we should let them know. One wag shouted out "remake Final Fantasy VII", and it absolutely brought the house down with people cheering.

But I know. I know it won't happen. And I also know that there's a lot of people out there who can't understand why we keep bleating on about the damn thing and wish we'd all just shut up about it. Sorry about us. :)

Capcha: No-brainer. Hmmm, interesting capcha is interesting.

Cannot wait; FFX was one of my favorite games of all time.
Will definitely be picking it up, alongside the remastered Ratchet & Clank and Jak & Daxer <3.

I think it's great. But it makes me really sad that it is going to be Sony exclusive. Don't really see why they don't put it on Xbox as well...

The wierdest part is that the graphics for FFX still hold up on their own even today.

Meanwhile, it's gotten to the point where transitioning from HD to FFVII makes me physically ill.

A regular FFX re-release would have been fine, but I'm not going to quibble over an HD remake. I liked FFX. It's one of my top 5 FF games. They've already stated that a FFVII HD remake would cost too much, and I tend to agree. It's not just a graphics update like some people think, they'd have to pretty much remake the entire game. Why do that when you can just make a new game?
Because people want it? They won't need to redesign the game or rewrite the script, that would save alot of money I would imagine.

It's really kind of stupid of them to ignore their fans.
No, no it isn't stupid. They believe that costs would outweigh the benefits of the remake. They've said as much in interviews.
So at the cost of making a game, but following the plot of the original, the rabid fans' wads of cash would not cover making an original game? Or are we saying ff13 was so dumbed down because making it as complex as ff7 would have been too expensive? I am not kidding, this is one of the games people would have absolutly no qualms about buying from them. "Too expensive" is relative. All they would have to do is make a Final Fantasy RPG in the way they used to, and follow the story. I just don't see it. Remakes that weren't too expensive to produce: Resident Evil, Silent Hill (yes even Shattered Memories didn't tank), Metroid, Metal Gear Solid, Tomb Raider Anniversary, Bionic Commando (Rearmed, not that other one), and my fully situationally-appropriate example: Final Fantasy 4. It wouldn't be any more expensive than just making another game, unless they really did try to recreate everything down to the exact inch-by-inch building placement, etc and spend all their time making every tiny detail exactly the same. Then again, the internet is filled with detailed charts on how absolutely everything in the game works. Their work is cut out for them there.

They fully remade 4, among others I think, into full 3d models and environment for the DS. While blocky and cartoony (essentially ff7 level graphics but cel shaded), they were still the exact same game except for slight differences in dialogue and had pretty good fmv cutscenes. To do this to bring ff7 up to at least better than ff12 graphics doesn't sound too hard. Preferably, they'd at least be consistent with the Compilation and switch the game to over-the-shoulder perspective and add voices for major cinematics. All they would need to do is make a new Final Fantasy game that follows the important details, it doesn't sound hard. Fan rage aside, using the ff13 engine would work just fine after returning to more sensible combat.

Think of it this way. Final Fantasy 7 is literally twice the game 13 is in terms of graphics needed. There are more areas, more enemies, more NPCs. More attacks, more spells, more abilities, the over the top summons. There's Chocobo Racing, there's snowboarding, there's the motorcycle game. There's the entire world. There's under the oceans. And all of it needs to be remade because all of the old models can't be translated to current gen graphics. We're talking making something that looks like this

and making it look like this

We're talking about basically making a new game here. And one twice the size of anything they've put out recently that uses current gen graphics. It would be less costly to make a FF15 that's the same quality we've come to expect from Squeenix in recent years, than to remake FF7.

Ok, I normally just read what other people have to say on these posts because I usually agree with what someone says but not in this case. I believe that there is a big misunderstanding between the die hard FF7 fans and everyone else. I believe that there could easily be a half way point between all of the arguments. Final Fantasy 7 was a great game that most of us would love to play again we just can't get past the graphics, I mean just look at them they're horrible. They wouldn't have to go back and make 1080p HD crazy frame rates, etc. Personally all I want is the SAME GAME with not necessarily insane graphics that would be unrealistic, just give me (us) something more tolerable then everyone made of squares and triangles. PS2 graphics would be fine make it look like FFX, put it on whatever console you please ie PS Vita to exponentially increase its sales, maybe add a couple small things as a bonus like different chocobo races, classes, maybe some different weapons, a different maybe secret playable character (reincarnate zack from lifestream as a copy or something, Genesis, Angeal you get the idea), just some minor upgrades like that without changing the game or storyline. I believe that if they would just do something along these lines everyone would be happy. The cost should be relatively low because it wouldn't be top of the line graphics, the fans would get off their backs about it (for a couple years at least), they wouldnt get bad reviews because they didnt alter it in any bad way, and it would restore their credibility to some extent. I think the reason everyone hates them right now is because theyre all wanting the next game to live up to the FF7 standard and thats just not going to happen until they let us finally have this one. This is of course just my opinion and what would make me happy, so I'll close here and let everyone else jump down my throat now lol thanks for reading at least. I feel better having at least got this concept out on the table for everyone to consider.

P.S. they wouldnt have to give them voices, but it would be nice if they could replicate the voices from Crisis Core, i think they did a great job with that :)
